What the Bush Administration really wants with Google’s search engine data...

The president and his cronies have finally been caught in a huge lie. If you think that they only want samples of search engine data to try and resurrect the Internet child porn (ban) law that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down, then think again.

Subpoenaing the major search engines for million hit size blocks of search request, result and metrics data is such a waste of time for trying to spot trends in porn search strings and results sets. There are many other ways to obtain information that could help them with the porn law issue.

The real purpose behind the Bush Administration’s subpoenas is that they really want to:

1. Spy on other branches of the U.S. Government and individual elected lawmakers.

2. Spy on governments of other countries.

3. Spy on citizens of other countries.

4. Profile search criteria and results to enable the Republican Party to react to negative trends quickly and prevent others from getting to the information first.

5. Profile search criteria and results to enable big business to squash small business and foreign competition by identifying search patterns for commercial goods and services.

6. Profile search criteria and results to identify web site databases which contain data that could impede the administration’s desire to engage in social engineering.

7. Find out who’s spying on the administration and stop them.

8. Impede freestyle blogging to prevent bloggers from digging up dirt on the Republican Party.

9. Identify objectionable information so that the government can censor information and manipulate the search process.

10. Change prevailing demographics.

11. Manipulate Wall Street by getting a peek at what investors are really looking for.

12. Increase revenue to the U.S. Treasury by identifying and determining which unknown activities should be taxed and regulated.

13. Identify blue state trends and thus deny citizens in those states, all of the benefits that would normally be available to all.

14. Suppress, prevent and prohibit the collection and storage of certain types of data.

This is just a sample of what the Bush Administration wants to do with search engine data it has no right to. Americans might be naive, but the whole world certainly isn’t.

I think the SCARIEST thing about what Bush Co. is attempting to do here is that it has BARELY registered any concern amongst his political opponents, the press, government watchdogs outfits, the business community and the public.

THAT's what cause me to hear loud goosestepping and "Zeik Hail!!!" ringing in my ears.

That's because THEY ARE ALL BEING SPYED ON.

Besides being in the same pockets of the lobby's that conservatives are, this could be a BIG reason why EVERYONE is so closed mouth.

Are You Ready to Be Bugged and Tortured By George W. Bush?
by Harvey Wasserman

It's not really terrorists George W. Bush wants to bug and torture. It's YOU.

It's not really terrorism he wants to fight. It's opposition from people he can't control.

It's not really US security he wants to protect. It's the power of his regime.

The Constitutional debate about whether these executive privileges are allowable in war is a smoke screen.

This isn't about war: It's about dictatorship. It’s about making power permanent by using private information against you, and by terrifying you with torture.

Team Bush believes it rules by Divine right. It has already re-defined "terrorist" to mean anyone who questions its power. It will use "anti-terrorist" wiretapping as a tool against anyone who dares oppose it.

All serious indicators show that "information" extracted by torture is virtually worthless in fighting terrorism. So is the information taken from wiretapping huge numbers of people, which Bush has been doing since before 9/11.

So ask yourself: if granted the power to torture, do you trust the Bush Administration---or any regime- - to refrain from torturing its political opponents? If granted the power to record private phone conversations, do you trust Karl Rove to not use this material against his political opponents?

Who will Bush go after first? Al Queda or the Quakers? Bin Laden or Cindy Sheehan?

If Bush gets away with this, then it's simple: if you are too outspoken in opposing this regime's destruction of social security, or the natural environment, or the economy, you will sooner or later be subject to torture.

If Bush's phone buggers pick up information or statements taken out of context that can incriminate or make you look bad, Rove will not hesitate to leak them to FOX and use them for partisan purposes.

The Constitution of the United States is absolutely clear about banning these abuses. The patriotic Americans who demanded the Bill of Rights knew these powers must be outlawed to retain any hope of preserving our freedom and democracy. That's why they did so, clearly and explicitly.

Those who support giving Bush these powers are undoubtedly ready and willing to be tortured and bugged themselves.

As for the rest of us, there can be no compromise with tyranny.

I don't give a dayam what Gore does. Because, to me, he's LARGELY to blame for the trouble we're having now.

Clinton practically lobbed the presidency to him. Had he a scintilla of charisma, he would have beaten Bush going away.

And when the going gets tuff and it's time to scrap, he runs and hides like a lil' ol' b*tch.

I Will Not Support Hillary Clinton for President
by Molly Ivins

I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.

Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges.

The recent death of Gene McCarthy reminded me of a lesson I spent a long, long time unlearning, so now I have to re-learn it. It's about political courage and heroes, and when a country is desperate for leadership. There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief.

If no one in conventional-wisdom politics has the courage to speak up and say what needs to be said, then you go out and find some obscure junior senator from Minnesota with the guts to do it. In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, "Look, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes." Bobby Kennedy -- rough, tough Bobby Kennedy -- didn't do it. Just this quiet man trained by Benedictines who liked to quote poetry.

What kind of courage does it take, for mercy's sake? The majority of the American people (55 percent) think the war in Iraq is a mistake and that we should get out. The majority (65 percent) of the American people want single-payer health care and are willing to pay more taxes to get it. The majority (86 percent) of the American people favor raising the minimum wage. The majority of the American people (60 percent) favor repealing Bush's tax cuts, or at least those that go only to the rich. The majority (66 percent) wants to reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending, but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

The majority (77 percent) thinks we should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment. The majority (87 percent) thinks big oil companies are gouging consumers and would support a windfall profits tax. That is the center, you fools. WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

I listen to people like Rahm Emanuel superciliously explaining elementary politics to us clueless naifs outside the Beltway ("First, you have to win elections"). Can't you even read the damn polls?

Here's a prize example by someone named Barry Casselman, who writes, "There is an invisible civil war in the Democratic Party, and it is between those who are attempting to satisfy the defeatist and pacifist left base of the party and those who are attempting to prepare the party for successful elections in 2006 and 2008."

This supposedly pits Howard Dean, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, emboldened by "a string of bad new from the Middle East ... into calling for premature retreat from Iraq," versus those pragmatic folk like Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emmanuel, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman.

Oh come on, people -- get a grip on the concept of leadership. Look at this war -- from the lies that led us into it, to the lies they continue to dump on us daily.

You sit there in Washington so frightened of the big, bad Republican machine you have no idea what people are thinking. I'm telling you right now, Tom DeLay is going to lose in his district. If Democrats in Washington haven't got enough sense to OWN the issue of political reform, I give up on them entirely.

Do it all, go long, go for public campaign financing for Congress. I'm serious as a stroke about this -- that is the only reform that will work, and you know it, as well as everyone else who's ever studied this. Do all the goo-goo stuff everybody has made fun of all these years: embrace redistricting reform, electoral reform, House rules changes, the whole package. Put up, or shut up. Own this issue, or let Jack Abramoff politics continue to run your town.

Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. I've said it before: War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds. The MINUTE someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. That, or you could just piss on them elegantly, as Rep. John Murtha did. Or eviscerate them with wit (look up Mark Twain on the war in the Philippines). Or point out the latest in the endless "string of bad news."

Do not sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can't get up and fight, we'll find someone who can.

I can't work up any enthusiasm for Hillary, myself. Her campaign will be an exercise in calculated compromise. She has to shift to the right to even have a chance, and that cancels my vote for her. Maybe I'll exercise my right to sit the next election out.

It's all about power (and control). Pure, unadulterated power. What's happening in D.C. is even surpassing the rate of rampant greed that spurred the 1987 flick "Wallstreet". D.C. has become a very dangerous place. The political climate has gotten to the point where congressional members can't even trust members of their own party anymore. The Bush Administration is hellbent on trying to force a square peg into a round hole.

They've undercut just about every legitimate government on the planet, and now they want you to believe that it's ok if they collect data on whether or not you're wiping your ass with toilet paper or with your fingernails.

The Bush regime (and yes we know that the NSA, DISCO and other agencies are listening in) is corrupt from head to toe. The entire operation is out of control. It's like giving Mickey Mouse a loaded gun in a kindergarden class, and then blindfolding him and tickling his feet. What's even worse about the administration's lies and deception is that they already know that Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Syria have nukes. Ironically, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is probably the biggest threat to world peace since Columbus falsely claimed he discovered America. Talk about a crock 'o' shit.

"All is forgiven. You must have found Jesus. Right on the money."

I like to stray and have fun sometimes, but what's happening on the political landscape right now is deadly serious, and you know it too. It's just a damn shame that more people aren't tuned in on it.

And I UTTERLY AGREE with Ms. Ivins: The leadership of the Democratic Party has gottah grow some gotdayam BALLS!!!

Well, ABM, as we have now all learned, the Bushies have been spying since BEFORE 9/11.

Think of all the political scandals in the past. What MUST the Bushies be holding over the heads of EVERYONE with money and connections.

I don't even hear the publisher of HUSTLER making a peep these days..

But I was speaking to someone recently about people out front during the Civil Rights days. Those people were bugged, bombed, slandered and beaten. But still they kept on.

The shit the Bushies are pulling are OLD HAT. People back then would have all been in the STREETS by now.

A lot of people today are too fat, unconcerned and UTTERLY lazy.

You have to wonder what the Bushies had on Al Gore to make him ABSOLUTELY not stand and fight.

Same with dumb-ass Kerry.

The man who runs the Zogby Polls said that he never saw a presidential candidate with so much momentum actively let his base down.

Like Gore, Kerry was presented with the evidence the Bushies obviously had.....and backed down/slunked away.

Voting irregularites had more to do with Gore's loss than his lackluster personality or his being beholden to Bush. And of course, what Bush had going for him against Kerry was the allegiance the god-fearing heartland of America, conservative plain folk who were tired of being ridiculed and discounted by the intellectual left. America is currently drifting further to the right, its population willing to sacrifice their personal liberties in exchange for feeling safe from the threat of the terrorist boogey man. The American masses are amazingly sheep-like which is why the prospect of our democracy morphing into a theocracy is also a danger.

Amen Amen Amen Molly Ivins Amen.

First of all she has already BEEN President

Remember Bungalow Bill Clinton said that when we elected him we got two for one a Co Presidency?

This would mean that we would get that polecat back in office if we elected her and the first thing he would do is get a blowjob in the Oval Office again to celebrate.

I hated him from the moment he practically raped Sista Souljah and them so called black men stood back and let him do it. And he executed that retarded black man in Arkansas so he could prove he was tough.

And he deserted Lani Guineer. And Joycelyn Elders.

He--and she--are too corrupt opportunistic skunks. Bush is quick death--Clinton is slow death. Better a Bushite be elected and it hit the fan.

If she is raising all this money that means she is okay with the very bunch that is in there screwing everything up now--pulling the strings, rather.

I think you've got that wrong, Chrishayden.

With the Bushies, you and yours will DIE many QUICK deaths. It is YOU who will be hitting the fan.

People today are quite backwards. A blowjob can get you impeached.

Getting folks killed and spying on a whole nation to fill your own coffers isn't considered quite as bad.

Chrishayden can always be depended on to demonize Bill Clinton. Slick Willie was not a paragon of integrity but this doesn't disillusion you if you don't invest all of your hopes in a politician. Lanie and Jocelyn didn't inspire Clinton's blind loyalty. They were expendable because they played into the hands of Clinton's critics because of what they said and wrote. Black people still fared better under Clinton than they wouldn've under his opponent.

I have been looking for and wondering when a new progressive political party will emerge and simply abandon the democrats.

I know I'M ready! I want them NOW!
