How can you constantly tell black folks to stop raggin on each other, and then turn around and disparage Mariah who has a black father and who apparently identifies with her black side??? Just cuz she is the worst-dresssed cow in show biz doesn't mean you have to try and expel her from the race. |

But a non-white looking person with 2 black parents is should claim to be mixed if she's light skinned?

That's exactly what we need because we can't keep allowing ANYBODY to claim black when/cuz they want to. The only people who should determine who's black is us. The majority of "black" Americans are varying shades of brown. And there are millions of brown-skinned-Americans who don't consider themselve "dark." As we have previously discussed, it is always about "light" as compared to what. It is these subtleties that will bring your authethic movment to a standstill. And I'd be willing to bet that if you'd got on a commuter train full of a broad cross section of "Black Americans" and ask them if they think "yellow" people should be kicked out of the race, the majority of them would look at you like you were crazy and say "no". |

Are you guys aware that although the vocal minority want to oust light people from the race, there are still great numbers of blacks who want to claim mixed people as there own. They feel like these people shouldn't be trying to deny that they have black blood. This is especially true in the cases of people like Tiger Woods. Mariah seems to be the favorite target of the anti-mixed crowd. That's why the focus is always on her. |

Let us face facts--the way things are nobody will claim to be black in this culture who is not--you can be 1000th black and that will do it--maybe it don't pass our test but we ain't really the ones putting the labels on.
Sistagal has had a rough time over on the other side of the line and she jumped back. She will jump back over whenever that becomes convenient--as would most black people I'm afraid.
Last time I looked in America 99 times out of a hundred being black ain't all that great shakes--they did this survey where they asked white people if they thought black people had an advantage. A lot of them said yes.
Then they asked them if they could be black if they wanted--nobody said yes.
For all Oprah's money, wouldn't none of them want it if they had to be black and that's the bottom line. |

These millions of brown-skinned Americans are DARK compared to light and white and other non-black people. The ONLY people who are darker ARE COAL BLACK PEOPLE. Okay ,IMO, I've seen some black people condemn
her by saying " she's black but she thinks she's
a white girl!",while other black people curse her for claiming black when they believe she really isn't. And I'm sure it's not any easier for her when she has to deal with whites. Meanwhile many whites I've known had no clue that she even had black blood to begin with! I think she's just a victim of this "one-drop" chaos. If she could just simply indentify as "mixed" she wouldn't have all this.

The "black when convenient" tactic is a survival tactic when one's stuck between the color line. Something We don't have to deal with, people always know what we are. But what else can she do when she's damned either way? No of this would happen if Carey were identified as white as she would be outside the US.
As far back as 1990, I heard black people saying "she one of us you know, but she hidin' it." And i'm sure the message reached Carey. If only some of those black people weren't pressuring her to claim them she wouldn't be in this mess. |

the real problem is that black people feel like if you have one drop of black blood in you then you shouldn't claim any other race than black... another problem is that we include white people into our race and i don't like it... all that interracial stuff is cool with me cuz i could care less, but when i see people say to a white person something like "you white on the outside but u black on the inside" or "u a black girl trapped in a white girl's body" stuff like that irks me. and we wonder why so many white people aren't afraid to use the word nigga around "US" and their people as well all the time... As far as Mariah goes... she has black blood in her... she is partly black, which means part of her heritage and culture lies with us. don't shove her out because she's lighter then the norm... if that's the case, let's kick those albinos that you only seem to see on Maury out of th race to... I know I haven't seen one contribute to building up the race yet... |

No, because calling men crude names apparently rolls off their backs. You, yourself, may not mind being called a "dick" but wouldn't you be offended if a female member of your family was called a "cunt?" |
