Good question. Maybe a little of both! And drugs too. But who put the drugs in the hood? Ah, now a topic with some MEAT! |

The Panthers were the victims of their own devices. The FBI was able to co-opt the movement by planting turn coats in their ranks, brothers who betrayed their comrades in return for clemency. But the Panthers blew all of their oppportunities because once they acquired a modicum of power they didn't know what to do with it. They shook up white America but they failed to take advantage of this edge and turned out to be paper tigers. They set unrealistic goals and were eventually neutralized by the white liberals who took a fancy to them. Drugs and fraternization with white women also tarnished the Panther's credibility. |

They couldn't handle it. They were too young and inexperienced and unsophisticated. But I wonder if anybody could have--a combination of police and secret police pressure, internal feuding, feuding with other organizations and gangs (I have stated before how the Chicago Panthers got run off the table by the Black P Stone Nation) drugs, being star struck by all the attention, corruption, secret informers and turncoats, and the mistake in trying to make revolution with lumpen and street brothers. They all started by the way after several kids were killed at an intersection that didn't have a street light. They were out on front street. There were no independent revolutionary organizations with older African Americans who could have taken them under their wings. |
