My father was a high yeellow light-skinned black man with wavy hair. My mother was a dark-skinned chocolate woman with short hair. I came out brown skinned and so did the rest of my siblings. Does that mean that we are not authentically black? Was my father an authentic black man? Do you consider some of our great black leaders who happen to be light-skinned such as : Malcolm X,Thurgood Marshall, W.E.B Dubois, and Frederick Douglass as non-authentic black men?

Secondly, Who is to say that all dark-skinned black men are authentic?

Damn my parents are almost like that except that my mother was very light complexioned( Yellow skin)with wavy hair, she resembles little bit like Mohammed Ali with feminen face, my father on the other hand is very dark skinned man with straight hair, resembles allot those darkskinned Southern Indians. The weired thing is all my siblings except the youngest one are either light brown or reddish brown with either soft curly hair and straight soft hair. They youngest one is dark brown with wavy hair like my mom.

"Secondly, Who is to say that all dark-skinned black men are authentic?"

Bullshit. "Authentic" is in the eye of the beholder, and "interpretation" is defined in the dictionary. "Black" (as in dark(er)-skinned) men are no more authentic than anyone else. This is especially true when "authentic" is virtually subjective in almost every instance of its application as a conditional qualifier.

I totally disagree.

Everything you stated is POST-colonial ideology that was passed down to you from the slave plantation.

In other words---you're now co-opted the WHITE MAN's definition of yourself, and because of that, you remain Dis-connected, Dis-jointed and divided by Dis-array.

If you're African, the white blood COLONIZES your body...rather than your land now.

You're totally wrong, Nels.

Although Clarence Thomas is a sellout...he is STILL more "authentically black" than Harry Belafonte, who is mixed.

Alek Wek is more "authentic" than Kola Boof....and Kola Boof is more authentic than Sonia Sanchez.

You can't be "AUTHENTICALLY BLACK" and claim the blood of Indians, Swedes and China men at the same time....as so many of you'd like to have it.

Aw shut up, bola koof. You're just frustrated cuz authentic American slave descendants ignore your big Sudanese mouth, and call themselves what they want to. You are not an authentic member of the black American community so take your skewed criteria and go hook back up with Osama.

LOOOOOLLL

Bola Koof?

I agree with Cynique. I want Black Americans to call themselves what they want to...and know that regardless of what I think.....I love them.

We're blood.
