Prettybabygirl and Renata, thank you for emailing me about this bullshit lie that I had plastic surgery and lightened my skin.
UNICEF took this photograph in LONDON shortly after I'd arrived from Cairo
This is the same exact nose that I have today (although sometimes when I smile, it looks bigger)---and like most Africans who come to colder climates, my skin has lightened considerably from no longer being exposed to the sun of the Sahara desert.
notice that photographers turn my head
at an angle to make my nose appear smaller.
Notice that when I don't smile, my nose doesn't lift up.
As well as that---black and white photos often make me appear darker than I am. I notice this with many other black people, too.
It's a complete lie that I had any plastic surgery done to my face.
BUT....as I've been saying on these boards for the last two years....as soon as I get some money, I do intend to have a Face Lift and some liposuction, as I lost my waist after my second son was born. I have never flinched from discussing that----so I don't see why I would not discuss any previous surgery. And there have been none.
There other childhood photos of me taken in America that clearly show my skin lightened and that I've always had a FULL nose and still do.
Photographers "shade" the nose and photograph people from certain angles to make it look smaller. There is one segment in the documentary about my life where you can see that I have a wide African nose. It's the segment called "GROWING UP IN AMERICA".

Anyone with A HINT of decent observational skills will be able to see that. Sadly there's a shortage of those people here this week.

Gee, I am DARK and have been DARK all of my life!
Even when I lived in the coldest Northern America climes.
I never noticed any DARK SKINNED PEOPLE in the wintry north turning TEN SHADES lighter because they had been experiencing several months of cold weather.
How does one DO THAT Kola?

These people are so stupid. Even here in the US, it's not uncommon to be lighter in the winter time than you are in the summer time, due to not being outside as often. And even then, the face/arms are much darker than the rest of the body because they're what's exposed. It's such a common phenomenon, it's not even mentioned or talked about, and no one asks why your legs are lighter than the rest of you when you do happen to wear a skirt.
Anyone too stupid to know that, I really don't have time to try to explain it to anyway. |

Cynique, does it ever occur to you that people who email each other do so to talk about things OTHER than this board? Why the heck would I email her JUST to talk about this board? I know she's coming here. It's mentioned, but that's not the reason for the email.
Mrs. Hart, you must be looking at different pictures than the ones I see. She's the same color in all of her pictures...some pictures I can tell that the flash is too bright, some pics she's closer to the camera, etc. And it's COMMON to be at least 3-4 shades darker in the summertime, more if you're constantly outside (people with children to supervise, those on public transportation, those who play sports or just like to be outside.) |

I'm sorry, but even light cannot significantly alter someone who is PITCH BLACK.
Either you are BLACK or you AIN'T.
I am a dark person and I always look like my dark self in photos. Nothing is going to lighten my old black ass up.

The adult photos of Kola above do not look "10 shades" lighter than the childhood photo. They look the exact same.

And these are Black and White photos! I've seen B&W photos of Angela Bassett that made her look PITCH BLACK and she's about Kola's complexion.
Children have baby fat. Her nose looks she grew into hers just like I grew into mines. Her nose still looks WIDE.

The Sahara Desert sun is 30 times more intense than the American summertime sun.
I went on a vacation to South America with my hubby last year. It took him 6 months to get his true color back. He was blacker than Bernie Mac and I was nearly Whitney Houston's color!
Black skin does change in different climates, and you can rarely trust Black and White photos to tell you what color a black person really is.

It looks much longer than when she was a kid. Anybody notice that?
Plastic surgery can't achieve that, but I've seen many Somali and Ethiopians with long heads, but notice the children have round heads.

As it stands now--I have to lose 15 pounds that stuck to me after the miscarriage. As I lose that weight, my face is dropping even more!
My upper eye lids are hanging in my eyes sometimes.
But I AM working out and "jogging" so that may fix me back up.
I know it's wrong to be so VAIN...but I just try to be HONEST. I don't want women thinking that I have some special "beauty gene" when I do not.
I live in California and ALLL these celebrity women are constantly having liposuction and nips and tucks----then they UNFAIRLY take the credit for being "So young looking and Ageless." It's bullshit and I would rather just show the before and after pics to my supporters and say----HEY, I know it's weak, but I had my face lifted you guys.
I feel no shame in people knowing. But you may be right. Others have said that Working Out and TONING with weights will be good enough.
FOR NOW.
I ain't go lie. I am not having a landslide face at 50.

This disscussion just shows how black people are are obsessed with complexion and western women in general are obsessed with looking young.

"Cute & small!" That would be ok coming from a white woman. Just like "dark BUT beautiful" Our language exposes our ideals.
