Schakspir, don't waste your time. Let me tell you what this is. Kola's biography will soon be released. We need sales and thus we need to garner attention. You know, regardless of the ill feelings anyone has towards this women, it is SAD to see a group of African-Americans, many of whom are published authors themselves, tear a black woman down right before her book drops. We talk on this board everyday about our plight as black people. Yet one of our own is doing something possitive -- not selling crack, or shooting dop -- but writting a book; and we wanna rehash bitter feelings and go into attack mode, two weeks before her book is due to be released. Actually, Tonya, it's not as sad or bad as you may imagine. To paraphrase another writer, "the estimates indicate that in the case of book reviews and sales, any attention is good attention: even negative reviews lead to increases in sales." Don't think Kola is at all bothered by this sudden swell of attention, good or bad, two weeks before the highly anticipated release of her much promoted bio. In the end, it serves her purpose. Did you ever wonder why stories of Terry McMillan being ambushed by the news of her much gay husband didn't happen until the release of her book and not months before or months after? Timing, Babycakes. In a business where people talking about you at the watercooler and on the bus and in the barbershops and beauty salons can make a significant difference in your sales volumes, you want people talking about you, and timing is crucial. If any comments can motivate someone who doesn't know you to go out and buy or seek out your book just to see how good or bad you are for themselves, then some will do whatever it takes to get folks talking! Nobody denies colorism exists, but as I've said many times, anybody who thinks things would be different if dark-skinned people gained favor, can forget it. The darker ones who come to this board are not interested in neutrality. No, they want to turn the tables and, in their simmering resentment, are just hoping for the chance to get their revenge on those who by pure chance happen to be light-skinned. And a lot of dark skinned people do this now in situations where they are in control. So it's a little hard to break down in tears for "poor ol dark folks", especially since a great many of them are not doing as terrible as kola would have you think. Nevertheless, I still say if we were all brown, colorism and the conflict it gives rise to would abate. And I've always believed that kola's biggest problem is that she, herself, secretly hates her own color. | ||

Is that sad third link a picture of KOLA? My God! She's definitely has some WORK/IMPROVEMENTS made to her face. She is much, much darker and AFRICAN looking in her childhood picture. Also she has had some work done to her nose. In the childhood picture, her nose is rather broad and boxy--but now her nose is more narrowed and rounded. As a mixed-race person (the brighter skin and the nose job), Kola does have every right to professionally change her looks and represent the multi-culteral part.
