I cannot believe how overwhelmed I was by the passing of Lou Rawls this week. All jazz and r&b radio stations have been playing all of his hits. Lou was a hell of a jazz singer back in the day, and I am one hell of a happy person to hear SUCH good music playing on the radio. He was so polished, jazzy and cool. Oh, lord, I am going to miss this man. |

Thank you also for helping so many Black youth get a higher education, Lou! |

You know Chicago claims Lou Rawls as its own and the city is mourning his loss. "We're gonna miss his lovin." |

I'm going to get myself a Lou Rawls CD tomorrow. I loved hearing his voice on the radio again. Such taste and talent. And most important of all: HE HELPED HIS PEOPLE! |

Lou Rawls was one of my favorite male vocalists along with Andy Bey, Mark Murphy, Joe Williams, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Joe Lee Williams, Eddie Jefferson and Billy Eckstine. Luckily, I was able to buy most of his wonderful Capitol recordings at a used record store about 13 years ago. Can’t get ‘em now. Love his smooth baritone voice. He was the most under-rated vocalist that I can think of. He will be missed. |
