I have a better idea. How about just getting rid of "Tonya"? I've yet to figure out what her purpose for existing is except to tell everybody else how to live their lives. She and her clones should just pull up stakes and take a hike since apparently they're having little success in their crusade to recruit converts. And that's authentic! There should be an island out there somewhere in the Pacific where they can settle and "tonya" can set herself up as the queen of nothing. (Hopefully the place will have an active volcano on it. I am curious. What is your beef with light-skinned women. Why should some of them be excluded from the black race. I must admit I have been merely scanning all of the post, trying to catch up, but yours caught my eye and I find the similarities with your comments and many others dis-owning light skinned very confusing. I suppose I always have. Is that same old question lurking around...what is black enough to be accepted? |

I won't speak for Tonya.
But it always BAFFLES me how light skinned black women don't see the myriad ways in OUR COMMUNITY that they benefit from "white supremacist" coding systems and are unfairly placed on a pedestal for being light WITHIN THE COMMUNITY----to the detriment of the authentic black women.
A good example:
A friend of mines from Ethiopia was watching "COMEDY HOUR" or whatever it's called on BET.
He noticed how almost every woman that they sat up on the stage as "background" decoration was High Yellow, but the males were very dark.
In the front row of the audience---same thing----all of the men were dark but the women were almost overwhelmingly High Yellow with a few White Women and Asian women mixed in.
Another Example:
In the vast majority of films or music videos produced by Black males----authentic black women don't exist----ONLY mixed, biracial or high yellow.
This is the RACISM of the COTTON CLUB all over again...where only those who can breed the blackness out of us are pushed to the front and celebrated....for being the "whitest" amongst us.
Of course, the men don't impose this color prejudice against each other.
Women like you DENY IT and support the system.
The #1 beneficiary of Color Prejudice in the Black Community is the High Yellow and Lightskinned black woman.
And yet you don't understand why you keep running across people who are SICK OF this system or hateful towards those who benefit from it.

I can say from what I personally feel that not all light skinned black women feel that way. HOWEVER, a LARGE amount of them do.
You have on one hand, light skinned people who seriously think they're better than "black" people and will make a big deal out of how NON-black they are. (FACT: there are black people who don't know of ANYONE who is white in their family, but will still make it a point to tell people how convinced they are that there are whites in their family and ADAMANTLY refuse to be called black, because they consider themselves "multi or bi-racial". Never mind that mama, daddy, grandma, grandpa, great granny, etc., and all cousins are black. They're light skinned, so they're mixed. In other words, not everyone who says they're bi-racial actually are). (LOL, catch these people a week before a relaxer touch-up if you want to know the truth.)
ON THE OTHER HAND, there are light skinned people who look at all of the family members, and AFRICAN people as a whole, and realize that we are truly a rainbow of people and try to find out how we can help ALL of our people, and not just those who can be mistaken for part other race.
(I personally would kick out Michael Jackson. Not because he's "light skinned", but because he made a big deal out of getting that way and staying far, far away from black people. It also PISSED ME OFF how he only dated/married white women, only hangs out with white people, only helps white people, and then runs to black people for support when white people got pissed off at his always hanging around white children. OOOOOh, I would SO KICK HIM OUT.)

As I have stated before....I understand the position and the conditions of which (you are correct) you speak. It is true, light-skinned individuals have acquired much based solely on the color of their skin. Some have even chosen to live in a fantasy world of believing they are whole-heartedly accepted into the white race. However, there are just as many who did play in the sun to get darker because of the pride they felt in belonging to the black race. Many, though few will admit it, have looked exclusivly into the darker pools in an effort to give their children a deeper shade of skin. Many have obtained jobs within factories and offices to bring more diversity into the work place and carry with them as many as they can. But to place blame that the priveliges that the white race hands over to those light-skinned merely because they will tolerate them is far less properous than you know. The benfits lead to exactly what we discuss here quite often..a division. This split is what henders us as a people, a race, and a nation. |

I actually truly love you (though you don't know it).
So I hate to go any further with you on this.
I'll just say that I love your work---and I'm glad you chose your black people and married and procreated BACK into the fold, and I pray that you can help your sons, hubby whoever REALIZE that the "split" is caused by us continously breeding these unnecessary physical differences in the first place.
We would be more united if we just embraced our blackness and stop trying to create White-looking children and then wondering why they aren't accepted or feel belonged.
Much of the split is because people don't trust people who don't look like them. The Blacks have been genetically conquered and a growing number are starting to reject that.
Especially Blacks OUTSIDE the U.S. distrust and fear Mulattos for good reason.

Everything Kola said is totally slanted. It really boils down to her opinion and her hopes. Her mentality is as inherent in her as her skin color, which is why she can only think one way. But she is not the undisputed oracle of the truth as she imagines herself to be. Her words are nothing more than a mantra desperately recited by her and those who share her world view. She is telling her truth, but her truth is fallible because it is not the whole truth. And the future is not on her side. I am sick of Kola Boof disparging everyone who is not her color, especially since her vindictive mindset is rooted in her personal history of being rejected. How many "consevatives" do you think are in the general black population? Most blacks (over half I'm assuming) are liberals, a good portion are moderates (in terms of party), and even the few who say they are conservatives are (usually) in the middle or center-right (e.g. Collin Powell).

It amazes me everytime somebody calls me an "Afrocentrist".
I think a lot of folks are going to be surprised when they read my autobiography.
I see myself as a typical African mother---my job is to protect my children, give birth to them, make sure they come back into the world.
Being raised by AAs has taken away my fear of vocalizing my beliefs and opinions, because I FEEL like I'm Black American and often forget that I'm not.
I'm not against anybody else. But MANY are against me and my black sons in this country---existing as ourselves.
We are not niggers. We don't need white "intervention" or "interaction" to validate us.
I love all human beings, but this is a racist country and MOST of the blacks are brainwashed to self-destruct.
I have a responsibility to deter them.
That's how I see it.

Well, Kola Boof, considering the long dissertations you go into at the drop of a hat, lecturing on and on about what tribe looks which way, and which one looks that way, and are always saying why black Americans should be aware of the customs and should perpetuate the complexion of "Mother Africa", why would you be amazed that some consider you Afro-Centric? And inasmuch as MOST blacks are not self-destructing, and are surviving without your help, how called for is your responsiblity??? You continue to imply that those who don't follow your leadership are doomed, but this isn't borne out by reality. The reality is that since America is racist, it is simply not going to go out of its way to accomodate its black minority, a segment which is becoming increasingly fragmented and more focused on the self-interest that results in individual achievement. The last democrat that I voted for was Jimmy Carter.In the last presidential election I voted for Ralph Nader.I am a memeber of no political party.When I vote, I am not so much voting for this or that person as I am voting against this ridiculous one party with two right wings system that is now in place.I really and truly,from the bottom of my heart don't give a damn if that third party candidate is Suddam Hussein.Given a choice between a couple of non-republican and non-democrat candidates I choose what I feel to be the better candidate.But I invariably vote against the 'two party' candidates.I would like to encourage everyone else to do the same. |

Rustang, I confess to usually voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I dont invest my hopes in politicians, and don't really expect candidates to live up to their campaign promises. I just make up my mind who I want to waste my vote on. I didn't vote for Ralph Nader because he is as flawed as the others, a slave to his ego, as is anyone who seeks power, no matter what banner they run under. In a way, America is an oxymoron because it has degenerated into a controlled anarchy. |

Unable to resist my preference for bacon and eggs, I've changed my diet; also my weapon. I now employ a big can of Raid, which I use sparingly on the ethiopian. He is so sneaky and amusing that I let him have his say. Cheis, I would have to plead guilty to the charge of having had a fair amount of fun at your expense,but what I am about to say, is coming straight from the heart and there is absolutely no animosity in it.I figured out quite a while ago that the world works much more smoothly if I just go and give everyone in it permission to be human.What I mean by that is that is simply that I know going into any situation that people are not going to be exactly like I want them to be, and that's ok.They don't have to share my opinions up and down the line.They can even have the audacity to disagree with me, and that's also ok.They don't have to be as smart as me, as stupid as me, as bold, as withdrawn, whatever.I'll be me and you can be you and Cynique can be Cynique and it's all good.My path was not yours or hers, and hers was yours or mine.Is it possible that you could have mis-judged her initially and then got locked into a contest of one-upmanship with her?She is obviously an articulate and intelligent lady with the courage of her convictions.It might be appropriate to apply the old thesis,antithesis,synthesis method and both of you would learn and grow from the experiment.Just my opinion, though.You could just keep throwing rocks at each other if you choose to.As I said, it's all good. |
