I’ve been a subscriber to the New York Times for over 20 years. I’ve read several of your articles and find you to be a refreshing and hip addition to this prestigious periodical.
In my spare time, I post under the screen name “urban scribe” on the Culture, Race & Economy section of a public message forum called Thumper’s Corner hosted on aalbc.com. We’re a lively cast of characters on the forum, and I’ve come to regard it as “my online home away from home.” However, in recent weeks, a new member has appeared posting under the screen name “Lola Ogunnaike.” I believe this person is an imposter and I don’t believe someone of your journalistic station would appreciate this imposter dragging your name through the mud and ruining your reputation via her offensive, asinine assertions. I invite you to have a look at the forum and witness the theft of your identity and the atrocities associated with your name for yourself.
I’ve forwarded a copy of this message to Bill Keller, Executive Editor, New York Times.

Abm,
I see where you're coming from, and I hear you. But my thing is: as posters on a public forum, we have the option to "hide" behind an assumed identity. Sometimes we see people using their real names, or names they are known by, to promote themselves and their works, which is cool. What we don't see are people coming onboard atagonizing and insulting fellow members while representing themselves as being serious journalists with reputable newspapers.
That's very fishy to me; especially considering that everything they do PUBLICLY will reflect on them professionally. This has led me to conclude that this person isn't who she says she is, and I felt the REAL LO should be made aware of this imposter.
I know if I were a public figure, and someone was fraudulently using my name and presenting me in an unfavorable light, I'd greatly appreciate it if the matter was called to my attention for the sake of my reputation and career.
As I've mentioned, I have read several of the REAL LO's articles and enjoyed them. When I first saw her name here, I thought we were in for a rare treat and great discussions from someone who's "made it" and has solid credentials to stand on. However, based on everything this imposter has posted so far, we've been bamboozled. |

US - You don't need to justify your actions to anyone. If a bitch (real or pretend) comes to a public forum using her real name, makes her place of employment a matter of public knowledge, posts pix of herself (real or pretend) and then proceeds to conduct herself in a way that you found offensive, then you are entitled to contact her (real or pretend) and/or her employer.
Last I heard people aren't supposed to be posting to forums while on the job if the shit's not work related. This is referred to as theft of time and services of an employer. So her employer might want to be advised of this information as well. If the bitch was dumb enough to post her private information to a public forum, she gots whatever she gets. More power to you. |

Urban Scribe, I appreciate your sentiments in trying to protect me in some way. But I do find it intrusive. I would not dream of tracking you down and emailing your boss to alert him or her that you were posting messages that I found offensive. Its just way overstepping the mark! |

First. I think we should leave it to TROY to manage the content and integrity of this website. It's HIS board, thus he's best equipped to do that.
I can definitely understand why you'd feel compelled to do what you did. But I would have limited my correspondence to Miss Lola. I'm sure she's practiced in handling stuff like this. I would NOT have included the NYT officials.
Why? Let's say this ISN'T the real Lola BUT the foks at the NYT believe it IS her. Or they WANT to believe it's her and us such against her.
Lola apparently has already had some issues/problems with the NYT. You maybe handing them a rope to hang Lola with. |

I applaud what you're doing Urban_Scribe. There's no excuse for a poster to pass herself off as someone else on this board and it needs to be exposed. When an interloper comes to this site and saturates it with a lot of self-serving swill, then she deserves all of the flack that she's getting. The real Lola sounds like somebody who would be allied with kola so maybe she gave kola permission to impersonate her. |
