A Last Note on Colorism/Race in India
Dear Friends & Blog Readers:
I have been receiving e-mails regarding my posts where I discuss the preference for light/white-skin in India. I want to point out that I have travelled to 25 countries as of Feb. 1, 2006 (at various times in my life). I've only felt that skincolor was a serious issue in 1 (India) out of the 25 countries I've visited. The fact that I felt comfortable in my Black skin in the other 24 countries says a lot.
I've also learned that a traveler's nationality usually trumps the color of their skin. Some people abroad like or respect Americans and some people hate us. However, I'm usually treated very well based on the passport I carry. Please note that this has a nasty side because I've seen people who hold non-Western nations passports being treated very shabbily.
I have no intention of allowing how other people may preceive the color of my skin as factoring into how I live my life or where I go. I was saddened by some of my treatment in India. (Please note that I also meet some wonderful Indians too.) However, my biggest sadness came when I realized that some Indians regarded Europeans as being better than themselves. However, I see India's self-esteem issues as being their problem and not mine.
Therefore, I'm continuing my quest to see as much of the world as I like. I do want the world to embrace me but sometimes that doesn't happen. And it is ok since I know who I am and have a whole bunch of people who love me.

my bestfriend is on indian girl.. she ones told me if her father would see her with a darkskinned indian.. he would burn her.. I mean that is sick.. I don't know if she was playing with me and making a joke.. but i was shocked.. and she told me that if a indian girl comes home with a white man.. she would be treated like a queen .. and when a father has two daughters(light and dark) the dark one is treated like a slave and a dog..
I swear i hate indians.. its just disgusting how they act sometimes |

This is nothing new. Theres all kinds of books and even that movie by lady who made "Mississippi Massala" showing the caste system in India. They don't like dark Indians.

If you think that is bad you ought to go to the Missouri Bootheel or the Ozarks and see how your own fellow US citizens treat you.
It ought to be clear to anybody who even visits this site that there are loads of NEGROES who hate other Negroes. So why be upset/surprised that foreigners don't either.

This is very true. I can create my own blog about so-called "colorism" and Asians. Everyone does it. No race or ethnicity is free from it.

Excellent point! But they somehow are oblivious and strident in their arrogant belief that their bigotry is different or not the same as those they relentlessly condemn. BUT IT IS THE SAME! THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. Their contemptuous indiscriminate color prejudice is no less unacceptable and ignorant.

Lighter skinned people are Not going to disappear,any time soon.From what I've noticed with all the race mixing going,Darker skinned people are the one's who are going to become extinct. |

I've read that it is horrible the way darker-skinned Indians are treated. First of all the darker your skin is the lower your caste is. Darker skinned Indians are denied job opportunities, educational opportunities, and political opportunities. Also, most of them live way below the povety level. |

Also, NTFS the color-caste system is just about the color of someones skin. It is about the lack of love and respect that black ppl have for themselves, eachother, and there forefathers. Even though I have never been subjected to the color-caste system as I can tell you have never been either. I have a beautiful dark-skinned sister that gets subjected all the time. You seem to have alot of apathy for Black women. |

No! But do you know what is hilarious?? That fact that you would try to make a comment about my skintone, when you've never even seen me before. Its funny how you associate everything negative with being dark. But I guess thats what I can expect from a "cross-dressing plantation house negress" like yourself.
FYI, I am not a dark-skinned female at all. I am a young brown-skinned brotha who often gets mistaken for being half-Asian. And my hair is not very "course" either because my father was half-white/Indian. But, unlike you I don't see it as a status symbol to look like I can "pass" for another race. I am very proud of every bit of my African heritage. Oh! And I thought that I would describe my hair to you because I'm sure that is what you were going to talk about next. Seeing as how plantation drag queens like yourself like to reduce all Black ppl to skin color and hair texture.

Light skin + skin cancer (via the sun) = happier dark skinned peoples
