I am a dark skinned black woman and I am not ashamed to say that I think mixed people are more attractive than white people or regular black people. That in no way means that I am ashamed to be black or that I am colorist against my own race. I have an endless list of pride for black people and I am proud to be black. When I discuss physical looks I am speaking of something entirely "aesthietical". I find mixed women to be more beautiful than most black ones but their exceptions to the rule. I find mixed men to be sexier and more attractive than most black men. I find mixed children more interesting looing than black. I think a lighter skin color helps us to see facial beauty more clearly and I think mixed people's hair is generally a better grade. Hate me for being honest with you but that is how I see things. I am proud to be black and I think that I am a very attractive black woman. I have never been shunned or ignored by black men for being dark skinned. This is all just the world according to Enchanted so please dont' shoot.

I would like to add that while I do not want my son to grow up and marry a white woman, I also do not want him to marry a black woman who is dark like him or I. That is not colorist it is semantics. We are already very dark with rich color and very attractive African features. We are both happy and appeciative of our looks. This is why I feel in some small part that "opposites attract". I see my dark handsome son married to a very ethnic Latina woman or a very saucy beauty from Brazil type. I think this will add beauty to what is already beautiful about us. I feel that my grandchildren would have nice medium brown coloring and nice hair. They would have black features but evened out. Now keep in mind that I would not want him with a white woman because I believe it neuters a black man and it disrupts so many historical patterns within a black person's family and life. But I do think Latina and other mixed people who come from African phenotype should be re-mated within our group and that is why I would like to see my son marry a woman who is not entirely black.

Enchanted, I must be your polar "beauty's in the eye of the beholder" opposite. I am a light-skinned Black woman and I have NEVER dated a light-skinned Black man. I just don't see the beauty in "mid-colored" people. Like yourself, I am pleased with the way I look, but I'm not my idea of beauty. I've always been extreme in my perspective in what is attractive to me. My men have always been either VERY dark or VERY fair - but never "in-between," like myself. I think beauty is sooooo subjective. Everyone has their own take on what appeals to them and/or looks good to them. So, I don't think there's ever any right or wrong answers when it comes to what someone finds attractive. You make a good point, though, when you say "opposites attract". Because I am mid-toned, for me someone either very dark or very fair would be my "opposite" and that's what turns me on. Go figure. |

Actually, YES! That would be MY hope. It's funny you should mention that because I have 4 boys, the oldest two are teens and they're starting to date. Like myself, my sons are "mid-tone" and my oldest son seems to like "White girls" but my second oldest son seems to like rich, deep complexioned girls. Now, here's the real funny part - both of their "girlfriends" are East Indian. My oldest son's "girlfriend" is a fair East Indian from Trinidad, my second oldest son's "girlfriend" is a dark East Indian from Guyana. Isn't that odd how that worked out? But I'm sure it's just "puppy love" (this is the mother in me talking now); it will be interesting to see who they ultimately choose when they become adults. |

enchanted: your taste are your tastes...but note that while you say that mixed "looks" better than black or white, the majority of your comments are directed at mixed being better than black. also, there is no such thing as anything being "entirely aesthetical." As others have said, aesthetics, like most things, are subjective. Considering that mixed people are aesthetically different, generally speaking, from light skinned black people, it seems that what you really like, "aesthetically speaking," are european features. I am what one could call "light skinned" but one would never mistake me for being mixed. To be honest, the claim that mixed people's features are more visible and that their hair are of better grade highlights that your comments are both subjective and your thinking is indeed colorist.

Why do you put so much significance on how your children/grandchildren will look? What about talent and intelligence? Everything you said is very shallow. |

BTW, not every biracial child looks the way you described (lightskin, light eyes, wavy hair). Many of them look more Black than anything else, and have kinky hair. |

BB123: "What about talent and intelligence? Everything you said is very shallow." A most NOTABLE observation you make here. I have 2 very lovely daughters. But I can't recall for any instance being concerned about how their husbands should look and how such could affect might affect the appearance of my grandchildren. |

It is so sad that you feel that way about not wanting any of your grandchildren to be dark like you. Unlike you, I actually don't find light skinned/mixed men attractive at all. I think Barack Obama is nasty looking. I prefer Mekhi Pfeiffer over Terence Howard. I like my black men, dark and African looking. I particularly like Djimon Hounsou and Omar Epps. As for mixed women - nah. Some of them are cute. Some of them are just average and some of them are ugly. Mixed/light women don't strike me as more beautiful than black women at all. One reason I wouldn't want mixed race kids is that they so often wind up as very confused adults wiht some verys strange ideas. |

So Enchanted you must be one of those typical self-hating Black women who encourages her sons to only date and marry the white and light-skinned women so you can some of those beautiful mixed children that you find so attractive. What a shame!! You hate other BW that look like you. So that is why you are so condecending to the plight of other Black women. That is why you hate Kola Boof so much. Because she speaks the truth and you can't stand to hear it. Because she tears down the belief that you have that "white is right" or anything close to it. I am so glad that you finally revealed yourself to us Enchanted. Maybe, you, Ntfs, and Eastwest can move to Idaho and start your own Black chapter of the Klan. |

Hopefully when they start dating, they'll be perceptive enough to see mama's colorist views and marry who the hell they want to marry. Indeed you're entitled to believe what you wanna believe but don't do this to them... not the children. |

Enchanted, while i will agree with you that on average mixed raced people run more attractive than "full-raced" people when it comes to facial features...i dont agree with you on the hair thing or the skin thing....to me dark skin and kinky hair is just as beautiful as light skin and curly or wavy hair....as long as the skin is smooth that's all that matters to me. as far as black people go, I actually find smooth dark skin more attractive than smooth light skin...but thats just me. the same way when it comes to latinos....i think that darker skinned latinos have more attractive skin than the lighter ones...maybe thats because i LOVE reddish-brown skin (like native americans)...again just my opinion. i'm attracted to whites also but as far as whites go...it makes no difference rather their skin is light or dark...usually when tyhey get dark they arent as dark as a dark-skinned latino anyway... i prefer kinky hair because you can do more with it. You can actually MAKE it look curly, wavy or straight or if you want you can wear it as an afro. Kinky hair is the best texture for an afro because wavy hair falls. It also holds braids, twists and twist outs better. So i prefer kinky hair for what you can do with it and because it holds styles better...the only down-sides to it are its harder to comb through and it recquires much more upkeep than a slicker texture hair and it takes alot of oil to make it look sheened, whereas wavy hair automatically looks nice and shiney. but at least you can amke kinky hair look like wavy hair without putting a perm on it or using a straightening comb. anyway, the reason i say mixed people on average run more attractive is because theyre more likely to have attractive faces than white or black people. Ive seen SO MANY cases where one parent was black and the other was white (or non-black) and BOTH parents were either unattractive or ugly as hell....but the mixed kid turned out either attractive or at least average looking. For instance there was this one girl who use to play tennis with me...her mom was an african from france and her dad was a white frenchman...both were just ugly (dont mean to be rude just expressing myself)...but the child actually managed to be half way decent looking. Maybe this has something to do with what scientists ahvbe been saying all along...(those with more diverse features on average tend to have more facial symmetry). If you go to brazil you will see plenty beautiful mixed people with very dark skin and wavy to straight hair. It's the same with ethiopians and eritreans (but i dont think their features come from necessarily being mixed much...that's just the way they look). So this idea that light skin looks prettier than dark skin is ridiculous in my opinion. Brazil has the most beautiful group of mixed raced people in my opinion and i think the darker mixed people are even more beautiful and exotic looking but thats jsut me. More colorist views from the Virginia Plantation House knee-grows. |

I never said that you said that White ppl were more attractive than Black ppl. I just said that you were colorist. Take it how you want to. Colorism to me is anybody who devalues Blackness and upholds the standards of whiteness. You don't necessarily have to say that whites are more attractive than Blacks. |

If you actually read it for what it is and think outside the box for a second it's not nonsense. Peope are so quick to claim coilorism at the drop of a hat....they assume because youre saying mixed people on average are more attractive then youre saying or implying that white people are more attractive than black people and that light skin is more atractive than dark skin...NO i never said ANY of that mess...again read it with an open mind instead of TRYING to find signs of colorism in every single thing that doesnt go along with an afrocentric way of thinking...that's all im saying. |

My goal was to show that not all dark skinned women are insecure and constantly hating on light skinned women and acting like black men are evil colorstuck losers just because they dont want a woman who looks more African. I am dark skinned, I am a pretty woman and I have always been treated good by the majority of black men. I don't have to have every single one of them to feel good about myself. I am dark skinned and I like mixed people because they are part of me but then different. I do not hate myself. I do not hate my race. I feel very good about my accomplishments and I am happy with my blackness and my beauty. |

most american mixed people i've seen recently look average to me for some reason....myaybe its because ive gotten so use to seeing them on tv (the light skin "good haired" thing has become old)....im just saying youre less likely to find an ugly mixed person than you are to find an ugly full raced person. Brazil on the other hand seems to have more exotic looking mixed people. |

tatyana ali is another example of the type im talking about (when she was on fresh prince) she's gotten kind of pudgy looking now. Also rudy from the cosby show is a good example uslooks exotic....she was so beautiful when she played in that beauty shop movie with queen latifah. |

Misty, I recently saw Black Orpheus. Strange movie. I also found the female lead in the movie to be pretty. But...*shrugs* Again. All these protestations about who is and isn't beautiful, ugly, etc. are what they always will be: O-PIN-I-ONS. There is NO divine, GOD-ordained/decreed standard of beauty. And even IF one race of people is more 'beautiful' than all others...so what? Does that mean everyone should celebrate their presence via tossing rose pedals at 'godly' feet? |

I recently saw Black Orpheus. Strange movie. I also found the female lead in the movie to be pretty. But...*shrugs* it WAS a strange movie BUT i liked it alot because of the music and dancing in it. "And even IF one race of people is more 'beautiful' than all others...so what? Does that mean everyone should celebrate their presence via tossing rose pedals at 'godly' feet?" No, it doesnt...i just have a strong appreciation for beauty i guess....just as i have a strong appreciation for positive inner qualities Again. All these protestations about who is and isn't beautiful, ugly, etc. are what they always will be: O-PIN-I-ONS. i agree to an extent but what do you think of facial symmetry (which is the beauty standard of nature)?

Misty, I think there is something that can be said about facial symmetry. But I mostly think human beauty is much more complex than that. I've seen beauty in all kinds of facial symmetries. Some beauty foks have abnormally large eyes. Some especially small lips. Some protruding cheekbones. Others the tiniest of noses. I've found that sometimes it's that one feature that does NOT match or fit one's faces that highlights all their other beauty. You'll have to provide me some more detail about what you mean by "natural selection and sexual selection". Because I think those might have meanings or connotations in the wild that do not necessarily apply to today's human. |

Misty, Btw: (And the colorism-crowd might enjoy this one.) One thing I distinctly recall while watching Black Orpheus is I couldn't help noticing the business owner(s), government officials, nurses, police, etc. were much closer to being/appearing White (or were less Black) than every one else in the movie. Don't believe me. If you can, watch the movie again. |

"I've found that sometimes it's that one feature that does NOT match or fit one's faces that highlights all their other beauty." Interesting. If you have taken the time to notice, people who are considered to be attractive or beautiful, generally have a balance and proportion in their facial features. There is a harmony and symmetry about their face where everything is proportion. By that, I mean no facial feature dominates their face, like the nose is too large, the chin is too short, the face is too long , the ears are too big or the eyes are too far apart. Every part flows together in symmetrical proportion to their face.

Ntfs, I'm not sure I agree. Because I've often seen men being adored for having oversized noses (or classic seemingly broken Roman nose) or chins (especially if clefted) and women being loved for oversized eyes (Betty Boop), cheekbones or even an elogated neck (ala Audrey Hepburn). Proportion is good. But if certain features are exaggerated, they can add a special character to one's overall look. Often, people who appear to have every feature perfectly align can look rather...boring. |

Your point is noted bro ABM. But as I said, if you look at people who are "generally" considered to be attractive, you will not see them with features that physically dominate their facial area. The features are fairly well balanced. Now that is not to say that some one with a particular exaggerated facial feature (e.g. eyes) is not or cannot be attractive. But if you look at the faces of a pictures of top 100 physically attractive people (yes -I know such a listing would be silly, but it's just an example), you will see what I said generally applies.

Misty, Rudy is not mixed, but I do agree with you that she is very beautiful. Furthermore, to say that you are less likely to run into a mixed race person that is unattractive is quite a stretch--cause I see mediocre-looking multiracial people on a daily basis. And some of the mixed race people who were once praised for their beauty, I find to be quite ordinary looking ie. Lisa Bonet, Lena Horne (she is ugly to me), |

Ntfs, So then you buy Misty's assertion that mixed foks (assuming we could agree on what that even means) are more inclined to have these proportioned facial structure/features than non-mixed foks? |

Jackie, I think foks get caught up into the flow of shyt before they realize their pants/skirt have slipped off and they ain't wearing no underwear. But, seriously. Enchanted only REAL sin is she's SAID aloud what MILLIONS of Black mothers think and say privately to themselves...and their children. *sigh* |
