His second show just got the axe. Some people are saying Black Women hate them some Taye.
Interesting interview with "Rolling Out"

Please pardon Taye Diggs if he sounds a little pissed. But honestly, he has every right to be. Here he is, an accomplished thespian with successful stage and screen roles to his credit and a new TV series (“Day Break”) to promote — which will make him the only African American currently heading up a prime-time drama on a major network — when less than two minutes into a half-hour interview I have the unmitigated gall to question him about his white wife.

“I’m too far along in my life and in my career to really give a question like that any type of dignified answer,” says Diggs, who was raised in black, middle-class Rochester, N.Y., intones. “When I was in high school, maybe. College, maybe. But I’m a grown-ass man and if people have a difficult time dealing with that, then I welcome them to see a movie with Omar Epps or Denzel Washington or some of those other brothers that have chosen to spend the rest of their lives with sisters, as you say. I just don’t have time for it. You can’t make everybody happy. And for the fans that are out there that are into me; they don’t really give a f— what’s going on with my personal life.”

But even the personal is political, especially in microcosmic Hollywood where prejudiced decisions are made everyday that shape the way in which African Americans, and all people of color, are reflected and depicted on a global scale. In light of all that, who better than Diggs to discuss how race colors and defines relationships in bedrooms and television studio boardrooms, alike? TV manufacturers embraced the full spectrum of color decades ago, but it’s taken the world a little bit longer to go Technicolor. Whether we readily admit it or not race still matters in the real world, even when the topic at hand is none of our business. Of course, that’s just a bunch of jive-ass journalism-speak that, when translated, simply reads, ‘What up with the white chick on your elbow, broham?’ But just because the question is a tad bit inappropriate doesn’t make it invalid, now does it?

I mean, we’re talking about a brother who could once do no wrong as far as the average black woman was concerned. This was the cat that gave Stella her groove back, for crying out loud. And he’s still the envy of every black man in the world for experiencing the on-screen love scene trifecta of Angela Bassett (in How Stella…), Nia Long (in The Best Man) and Sanaa Lathan (in Brown Sugar), respectively. But when sisters discovered three years ago that Taye Diggs had married a white woman (Tony Award-winning stage actress Idina Menzel, whom he met while co-starring with her in the 1996 play “Rent”), they were by and large disgusted, disappointed and dejected. Suddenly, his stock with the sisters plummeted. They quickly labeled him a sorry sapsucker, a sell-out, another example of a smart, sexy, successful black man stepping outside of his race to find his Eve, his missing rib. And frankly, they were fed up with it.

photo courtesy of ABC, Inc./Copyright 2006
At least, that was my perception of the whole thing.

“How do you know how black women feel,” Diggs asks pointedly, after hearing my hypothesis. What he didn’t know was that I had taken the liberty to poll a handful of sisters on their thoughts of him prior to the interview. Thus, I began to break him off with the unscientific results.

“I like him,” one black woman who wished to remain anonymous initially responded, before continuing. “I have those hang-ups about black men and white women so — and I know his wife’s not white-white — but when I found out, you know, it’s always a disappointment when you find out that the [black] guy’s married to a white woman or just somebody out of the black race. But other than that I like him.”

While many famous black men have married outside of their race, including Quincy Jones, O.J. Simpson, Barry Bonds, Derek Luke and even Clarence Thomas to name a few, Diggs can be most closely compared to Sidney Poitier. In 1976, the groundbreaking actor whose first wife was black — married Caucasian Canadian actress Joanna Shimkus. But it’s been over 40 years since Poitier challenged racial taboos on-screen by starring in romantic roles opposite white women in films like A Patch of Blue (1965) and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). Back then, integration was the Negro motivation and Poitier’s accomplishments (including the first Best Actor Oscar awarded a black man, which he won for the 1963 film Lilies of the Field) symbolized Black America’s push for equality in a country that still counted the race as second-class.

Taye is a victim of his own success and also the White/Jewish-run mainstream media's obsession with pigeonholing and typecasting dark-skinned "black" actors who have a strong "Negroid" phenotype (into roles that convey little power, control or admiration). This is regardless of these actor’s intelligence, articulation, persona, etc.

What black women think of his personal life (is) "irrelevant" since they complain about virtually everything; evidenced by chronic pursed lips and going downhill from there. The bigger issue is the biased TV ratings system that is used to measure viewership, consumer reaction and loyalty, as well as the aversion that many "white" men have to seeing a successful black man engaged in a thought-provoking primetime television show paired with an attractive non-black actress. White men tend to believe that they are entitled to the fruits of other's labors. Certainly, a wrong assumption on their part at the very least, and definitely a tremendously stupid, ignorant and counterproductive perception at a quantified minimum.

Taye faces an uphill struggle that many black men face in life. He’s smart, definitive, non-subservient, decisive and just about everything else that white men don’t care for. Accordingly, when the ratings come in, the tale is already told. From commentary to critics, he’s in a Catch-22; how to be assertive in white America and yet minimize the perceived threat to the dominance theory of the social construct.

Since Taye been married to that man-looking white greasy haired bitch, he himself has started to look less physically attractive. these days his head look like a baldass shining tennis ball and his face look too round and his features look bloated. Damn shame. If he'd married a sister, he'd still look fine, like Denzel

Nels, How does him only loving white women pose a threat to the dominant social construct? I think it does the opposite. He is placed with white women because that neutralizes his power. White men would fear him if he was in love with India Arie or teamed with a black woman.

The following is from the same article Robynmarie referenced to:

"'I don’t think black people really want to know the truth about themselves', Diggs says, when asked why he thinks African Americans of both sexes are so caught up in the neo-thug-love movement. 'I think it has a lot to do with the perception of the black man and how highly it’s looked upon for a black man to be considered tough and manly and masculine and all of that. You know that phrase when you make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t? I think it’s kind of a glorified situation where you take something that has been laid upon us and then you kind of turn it around and wear it as a badge.'"

http://www.rollingout.com/cover/index.php?p=6084&more=1&page=1

Though I don't much care for Taye Diggs the actor and could care less for him as a person, I do think he makes an important point here.

Because Black American men are largely caught up in modeling and affecting stances and imagery that are paradoxically alluring and destructive. And everyone - including Black WOMEN - revel in such.

Nels,

If White men truly feared Diggs, there's no way in hell they would have paired him with White women in Kevin Hill and Day Break.

Bottomline: If Diggs had the numbers he'd STILL be on TV. He didn't. So they yanked his a$$. Like that they do every OTHER crappy TV show that's canned within a month or so after it first airs.

I thought the hoe he married was white? Whoever he married, he clearly had the sort of good looks that don't last - because he no longer looks good. He looks like he has a small penis to, which is even worse.

I actually liked the concept of Day Break, though I though ABC were sorta clepping off of Fox's 24.

And I was looking forward to seeing how the writers would be able to keep plot fresh.

Taye Diggs is a mediocre actor at best. He is very effeminate looking as well. But notice how dark-skinned Black men are not subjected to the color cast system. Fuck Taye Diggs. He is the typical "sell-out" as nikka I'm used to seeing everyday here in L.A.

These niggas run around here and kiss their 400Ibs white, Latina, Asian wife. Also, Nels I don't get what you are talking about he is a very subsevervent BM. That is also why he played Will's lover on the hit show Will & Grace. Because of his feminine looks.

A) Pairing him with white women does not alleviate the anxiety of white men or their fears. Pairing has nothing to do with the perceived threat either; as a matter of fact - it challenges the show's genre and the film industry. If you've worked in Hollywood, you'd understand.

B) I already said he didn't have the numbers. And...IMO, the show wasn't crappy - it just had a story line that was too iterative for many viewers to follow. Once you lock yourself into a scenario of re-living the same day over and over again, you reach a point where the audience begins to look for forward progress in time. Repeatedly hashing over the same day's events doesn't really help either.

And also remember, "black" Hollywood lives in its own world, and it's generally oblivious to the public's perception of it. That's why it's still stuck in a rut of perpetual irrelevance.

Nels I still say that white men feel more comfortable with a black man who loves white women than with one whose destiny they cannot control through their white woman. Taye Diggs is the neutered black man that white men adore. They loved Sidney Poitier for the same reason. It was Malcolm X they feared never Poitier.

This is no longer true, Nels. Hollywood is extremely homogenized. Blacks, white, Asians are up for some of the same gigs these days, causing many black actors to "play ball" in mainstream Hollywood, forming unprecendented alliances. They can't afford to be oblivious, or they will not work. Star power doesn't cut it these days like it used to.

Yeah, Taye Diggs wife looks extremely masculine --she isn't cute at all! But, as far as "looks" are concerned, he's nothing to look at either, and he's so short (I'm not attracted to short men). I could pass him by on the street and not even look once.

They're made for one another!

I am not sure I understand the article. Is the author making a link between the show's lack of success, TD's marriage, and Black women's reactions?

Nel,

I'm not sure I can even follow the argument you're making about the fears White men seeing Black men coupled with White women. But I think I agree the concept of Day Break was inherently flawed. Still, I would have liked to have seen the writers/directors be given more time to attempt to manage or reconcile the inherent weakness you cite.

Yvettep,

I think the answer to your question would be "Yes", though perhaps you should add to that his recent spate of being coupled with non-Black women on TV. Now, whether there is a valid connection amongst all of those is, of course, debatable.

Moonsigns: "I could pass him by on the street and not even look once."

I'll bet were he NOT Taye Diggs or if he were not recognized in the public as such MANY women would do the same (Btw: I have very similar thoughts about Tom Cruise.). But then, that's the magic of Hollywood.

Every time a black "man" flaunts some manly looking homely white bitch like she's some kind of gotdamn prize, the KKK look on and LAUGH AT US. They think we're so darn stupid, inhuman and retarded, that we can't even damn well stand each other or get along. Instead - we women with our stupid European hair weaves and our men licking the filthiest, smelliest of white pussies - have this White is Right attitude.

The solution? Every time you see a black man with a white woman, stop, smile and give them a severe beatdown. Some of them will die as a result of your whuppin, others will eventually be too scared to date white devil-dogs again, thus solving the problem.

Since Taye Diggs was the Executive Prodcuer of both "Kevin Hill" and "DayBreak" this is why so many black women hate him now because he chose to surround himself with non-black women on screen like real life. It became a statement for him and now he is not liking the reply. Oh well.

It's quite obvious you're projecting your insecurities onto others. Because, regardless of the backround(s) of any given couple, on average, most couples don't "flaunt" one another. If a couple is together in public, smiling and appearing to be content, they aren't thinking about you or anyone else --they're enjoying one another's company.

Yes, most of the time couples are (appearing to be) enjoying each other's company.
However, with celebrities, it is more like flaunting. They are in the public eye and photographed constantly. Whomever they choose to be with becomes an object of intense scrutiny. Stars choose very carefully who they are seen with in public. I remember years ago Michael Jackson said he did not want to be photographed with Stephanie Mills. He thought she was not attractive enough, if you can belive that s--t. LOL.

OK, ABM, I get the author's point now--and agree that the connection is debatable. I think I looked at 10 minutes of one episode of his new production. It. Just. Did. Not. Entertain. Me. Especially with these serial-type dramas, I have to REALLY like it to make an investment. (In fact, the only new show I began watching this year was "Heroes.")

I could care less who he has relations with or is married to. Make a good TV show/movie and I'll watch. I do not even mind that he is short. (Prince fan that I am LOL and *wink* at Mzuri!) The only man I care about who he's with is the man livin here with me.

I have never been blown away by Taye Diggs for some of the reasons mentioned. He is, indeed, short or can I get into his bald look. But I like his first name. Recently I found out that his real name is "Scott" and his nickname was "Scottay" and when he went into show biz he took the name "Taye". Cool.

Michael Jackson not thinking Stephanie Mills is attractive? And then marrying who he did and climbing on her twice to mate with her (if you believe his story)? A woman so caring that she accepted more money in lieu of visitation rights to the kids? (of course even THIS didn't make her a "golddigger").

FUNNY FUCKING SHIT! LOLOLOLOL

AS A MATTER OF FACT if he can say his ex was prettier than Stephanie Mills...that's not even colorism. I REFUSE to believe that's just as simple as colorism. That's either someone giving him some serious fucking crack or a mental imbalance gone way out of control. We really need to consider his safety and well-being. I'm not joking here.

I don't hate Taye, I just don't give a shit about him one way or the other - and not because he's married to a white woman, I just never got his appeal. I mean, he's not a bad looking man, just too short and skinny for my tastes. And there's something kind of "faggy" about him. It's like he thinks he's so cute and that's such a turn-off for me. If a brother thinks he's pretty, he has got to go. His acting isn't anything to write home about either.

And what's up with the necklace and the earrings? Faggy!!!

Yvettep,

I think for the most part, most fairminded Black women would probably feel about Taye Diggs personal life as you do. But Diggs started out billed as the Sista's Choice. Yet he not only marries a White woman (which I agree is everybit his right to do) but then APPEARS to make some fairly high-profile and deliberate gestures to 'whitten' the palette of his characters love interests.

He should have KNOWN some backlash was inevitable.

But I think Diggs biggest error is he grossly MISCALCULATED the degree to which either Black OR White foks cared for him as an actor or a person.

Although, I must "say", Taye has beautiful skin! I wonder what skincare line he uses?! LMAO!

I have no idea why all of you are hatin' on this brother because I'm willing to bet if he wasn't who he was and his name was Mike Jefferson, walked up to you respectfully in the parking lot of your local super market, you wouldn't say; "Eeewwwwww! Get away from me! You're ugly and ya look like a fag!" I seriously doubt that.

And as you all know by now, I'm for total freedom of personal choice. But I have to admit, that picture of his wife does look like a she-male. Maybe it's just bad photos.......?

He should have KNOWN some backlash was inevitable.

Actually, I liked him just fine until I read his reaction (over-reaction) in that piece. I can't stand these stars who complain about folks being in their personal business. Newsflash: It comes with the territory. If you truly want privacy, then stop acting and get a job at an insurance company.

I know I joked about his necklace, but I do not even automatically find his short stature and "metrosexual" look a turn-off. And his skin does look as smooth as that chocolate you all were discussing on another thread. But for me, a little humility and a lot of not taking yourself too seriously goes a long way in terms of attractiveness.

Yvette, he's already married to a white woman and he's been Executive Producer of two television shows "Kevin Hill" and "Daybreak" where he catered to white and latina women almost exclusively. I dont understand why he's mad at black women for his show being cancelled and not white women since those are his fans base. This is the same with Millenia Black. She caters to whites then comes whining that black people need to lead a march for her. What happened to the white fans and why do black women have to support people who don't like them? That is more the issue to me than celebrity.

Since he can't act for shit he should be hugely grateful that he is even getting acting work!! There are many extremely talented blacks who are never able to make a living as actors. Taye clearly sucked all the right cocks to get where he is today!

Enchanted, not only that, but Black women--numerically speaking--cannot possibly be to "blame" for these shows' lack of success. I wasn't clear from the article if that was his contention or the journalists, but it just is not possible.

But anyway, sorry to change the subject but did anyone see the pic of Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance with their twin babies in People? Very cute! And as a mother of twins I know what she's going thru right now. (Tho I'm sure they have prof help.) If you are tired of the little man above and his strong-featured wife, look at that photo of that Black family. (Or the one of Obama and his wife and kids I posted on another thread.) I hear that she is working on a movie based on the life of Toussaint Louverture directed by Danny Glover. Can't wait!

right. black women dont have the numerical strength to end a television series. this is another case, of using the race card, to make a story.

I like Taye Diggs, but to be honest I like him because of his movies not his acting. I liked the brotherhood seen in his buppies films; I don't think he is a great actor, either. I wouldn't compare him to Poitier, though I don't claim that he is a great actor either.

I haven't seen RENT, but the buppy movies he's been in haven't required great acting. But I would say that about 99% of hollywood. morgan freeman, denzel, forest whittaker, and others are great actors....the African brother, Djimon Hounsou is a good actor not great...he has had much better acting roles than Taye D. Diggs I believe is excellent in buppie roles, and he can romantic comedy. I liked Kevin Hill for personal reasons: he is a professional, as I am, and had to become a man before he was ready to because he had to raise a child...now, while I am NOT raising a child, I am thinking about becoming a man, that is becoming more responsible to others, such as children and a wife, and my community....and I was able to see this on television. By the way, he was about to get busy w/Toni Braxton....I too wanted to see that...I have loved her since the 90s and that short hair cut, remember that ABM?

Concerning his wife....we have discussed features before, but she has strong features but I wouldn't go so far as to say manly. My beloved Angela Bassett too has some strong features. Now, let me tell you! Dont talk shit about my woman...Angela is my ideal...body and facial features, and she is regal to boot!

I do think, as ABM and others have pointed out, that he had some control over the cast[assuming that exec. producers have that power...i dont know] but he could have used black people and he didn't. Thats his right, but I don't like it.

Sometimes in our attempts to escape racial identity, we forget racism by foregrounding colorblindness. That is, he goes for this multicultural cast, ignoring, if this is indeed the case, that black folk aint gonna get either the behind the scences [movie production] gigs or the in front of the camera gigs unless black people put them there. This is what is good about Spike Lee.

It is the hypocrisy of colorblindness...by being "colorblind" in a racist society, he ignores the persistence of racism, a la Ward Connerly and other proponents of hollering reverse racism.

ABM, sorry for overanalyzing. Elder, you must show me a better way!

Yukio,

I like Braxton on Kevin Hill as well. They might have made an interesting coupling if they'd had enuff time together. Though the Hollywood scuttlebutt was Braxton was brought in to try to recapture the Black female fans (then UPN's most faithful fans) he'd lost while Kevin Hill was doing his White-Light-Bright booty tour.

I won't pretend to know who/what Taye Diggs is REALLY all about. Frankly, I've never been interested enuff in him as an actor or person to read much of anything that he's said or that's been said about him.

But as I said before, I believe he discovered he's NOT a appreciated as he might have believed. And hopefully he can gain from his experience the kind of humility that might help him to grow as a performer and as a person.

Btw: I ain't gone dog the appearance of Diggs' wife. But dude, she ain't NO Angela Bassett!

I just re-read that Taye article. He really doesn't come across as a nice guy. He's being really defensive. The funniest line is "But I’m a grown-ass man and if people have a difficult time dealing with that, then I welcome them to see a movie with Omar Epps or Denzel Washington or some of those other brothers that have chosen to spend the rest of their lives with sisters,"

Sure, we may prefer to see Denzel or Omar but that's because they are way way better actors than this Taye idiot AND they are way way better looking.

Taye-Taye, stop playing yourself you batty bwoy half-wit.

Shouldn't it be fairly obvious to Taye Diggs that the reason his series was pulled was because it didn't sit well with white prime-time audiences. How can people prattle on and one about the racism that exists everywhere in this country and not realize that white middle-America prefers not to watch a series that features a dark-skinned black man intimately involved with a white woman. Meg Ryan's career suffered a big hit because the pictorial promotion for that boxing movie she made with Omar Epps made it look like she was his lover instead of his manager and the audience stayed away in droves. Taye digs is a stiff when it comes to acting. Jeffrey Wright, to me, is the premier black actor out there.

right, cynique. i think this is the same pt. yvettep made, and i was agreeing with. that is, white folks control that nielsen ratings bit not black folk. also, it wasn't even on upn, so it definitely can't be blamed on black women.

Sorry but technically black women could have kept the show on the air if they had supported it. I checked and the show was getting a 3.9 HH/household rating but black women can produce an 7.4 prime time (about 8 million viewers) and his stats showed that almost no black women were watching. It was the only show on t.v. with a black lead where no black women were watching and few black "household index" because black males have about half ratings of women. If he had got a half of black women to watch then his 3.9 could be a 10.0 and there isno way they would have cancelled his show. So black women do have power. Denzel Washington is famous for saying he is a major star because black women liked his wife and will go see his movies three times each to jack up his boxoffice and that was proven true with Waiting to Exhale and The Color Purple as well so now I see why he has been accusing black women of not watching his t.v. shows.

"Shouldn't it be fairly obvious to Taye Diggs that the reason his series was pulled was because it didn't sit well with white prime-time audiences..."

Nice angle. IMO, good perception.

enchanted: while your mathematics, for the most part, makes sense. your post only says that black women DO have power and if they watched he would have had a 10 hh NOT that their not watching him or their hate is responsible for his show not remaining on air. That is no different from saying that if 7.4 million more non-black watchers he would have remained on air.

You're right Yukio but him being black he naturally expects blacks to support his show. Those ratings from black women went to the white shows up againt him. He feels if black women really were his fans from the beginning they would accept his choice in women and love him unconditionally. White women viewers could have easily made his show a hit but they didnt watch "Kevin Hill" or "Daybreak". I think its because most white women watch t.v. with white men but most black women watch t.v. alone or with kids.

If that were his reasoning, he would have made different casting and content decisions. No, while I cannot argue with you numbers, I do not feel either of these shows were marketed as "Black" shows. Thus, they were not expected to get paltry (by comparison) "Black" ratings numbers--more "24"-like numbers.

It takes Black women for "24" to get its numbers and for some reason Taye Diggs has been in several newspapers being very vocal that "black women" did not watch his shows and upset about it like he is saying black women need to get over their prejudice and support him because he is black regardless. He is not calling out anybody else Yvette. Black women can make a show considered "cool" and others will watch as well.

enchanted: then he is a fool. so sharing skin color demands that we support him that is bogus. if you are right, it sounds like he is self-conscious about his relationship and blaming black women for his's program's folly.

this is sloppy thinking on his part, at the end of the day, you can not expect black people to vote for you just because you're black....i'm not saying, however, that black women w/anti-taye diggs feelings are right, but neither is he if he believes his color is gonna keep him on the telly!

Enchanted,

Maybe White women - single, married and divorced - just do NOT like Diggs' a$$. And his marrying a White chick won't do a dayamthing to change that.

Does this nikka have a agent? Because he-she's gotta know that all this blaming of Black women his-her client is doing is KILLING his career.

Ntfs,

If you're going to make your bones in the media, you've gotta have the cajones to stand up to foks diggin into your shyt. ESPECIALLY if you're gonna be brave (or dumb) enuff to express your TRUE feelings.

Half of us NTFS, including myself, Abm, Yvette, Cynique, Yukio and RobynMarie have not said that we don't like Taye Diggs. We have not expressed hate for him. We are discussing his bitterness in attacking black women for not supporting him. You are being way too sensitive and sound stupid as he does. Taye Diggs: "But I’m a grown-ass man and if people have a difficult time dealing with that, then I welcome them to see a movie with Omar Epps or Denzel Washington or some of those other brothers that have chosen to spend the rest of their lives with sisters,"End of Quote Now someone tell me how black women should react to everything implied in that statement? He's dumber than Wesley Snipes!

Enchanted,

I don't feel any need or desire to lambaste Diggs. Honestly, I'm too indifferent to him for that, though I actually was intrigued by the concept of Day Break. But the shyt he's doing, especially given his manner of employment, defies common, practical SENSE.

Simply: You CAN'T do a hatchet job on who is likely to be you best and truest client and expect to survive in ANY business.

Until reading this thread, I thought Taye-Taye was a terrible actor but reasonably attractive. I would definitely have gone to see his movies or watched him on TV if the movie itself seemed good. While Taye-Taye can't act for shit, I have enjoyed some of the flix he's been in, like Brown Sugar and The Best Man.

However, since reading his bitter comments about black women in the article that Robynmarie posted, I will now boycott anything that Taye-Taye is in and tell all my black female friends to do so also. He comes across as whining like a lil bytch (and I'm not talking about the sort of whinin' you see in a Sean Paul video, either!). Maybe that manly looking white bitch can support when his career goes belly up.

NTFS - Taye hasn't done anything to me personally, but he is a public figure and therefore open for mockery, contempt, criticism, taunting, etc. Would you complain if we sat up here extolling his virtues?

P.S. He really does look faggy, don't you agree??? LOLOL!

TAYE DIGGS: What In The World?

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Taye Diggs may have another cancelled primetime television show under his belt, but he's still considered one of Hollywood's leading men.

While the Rochester, New York-reared stud is the object for desire for his adoring female fan base -- who may have seen him in romantic comedies 'Brown Sugar,' 'The Wood' and 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back'-- he may be turning over a new leaf.

Literally.

In a recent interview with fashion magazine 'Elle,' Diggs talked candidly about his shoe addiction, his nerdy days, and his fashion sensibility. When asked who would he choose if his life depended on sleeping with a man, the chiseled-chest Broadway trained thespian told Andrew Goldman, "It would have to be a really put-together brother. So, Tyson Beckford.'

Hmmmmmmm.

I know the old adage "a little means a lot" but this is MUCH!!!

The irony in the statement -- aside from the obvious-- is the fact that Diggs beat out Beckford for the role of the male love interests in 1998's 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back,' which starred Angela Bassett and Whoopi Goldberg. Back then, Diggs was a notable member of the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical 'Rent' and Beckford was making history as the very first black male supermodel.

As blogged about by BV's very own Marcus Vanderberg, Diggs' latest foray onto television via the action series 'Day Break' was ill-fated.

On Jan. 2, Diggs -- legally known as Scott Diggs-- will turn 35 (or 36 -- depending on who you ask). On Jan. 11, he celebrates four years of marriage with his former 'Rent' co-star Idina Menzel.

Well, that's if he doesn't run into Beckford.

Ha.

I was shocked to learn that his new show DAY BREAK is cancelled . but like everything else if the lead actor isn't WHITE say bye bye to any real good television series. they'll probably put on some stupid replacement , which will amount to nothing of real substance. and to that sista who hates he's dating white women find a white man then to make you feel good. He's not the only black actor or professional out there who prefers white women; did it ever occur to you that maybe its because most choose not to believe in their black man ? maybe its because they prefer the white woman to get their money through divorce ? or maybe they simply love that person despite their color ? oR JUST MAYBE THAT WHITE WOMAN CAN HELP THEIR FAILING CAREEER? Keep up the good work Taye-stay true to yourself..remember we fall down so we can GET BACK UP.
Comment from jaqdejavu - 12/22/06 12:38 PM

Don't like him, he thinks he's too good for the sistah's. He's into white chicks.
Comment from jzac393270 - 12/22/06 11:13 AM

He is so fine and from I have heard, he ain't no stranger to men either. I say if he is bi or has experimented so what. Taye is a good actor and seems like a good person. Being Black and in the spot light is hard. Our race has expectations, Hollywood has expectations, and our own desires sometimes have to be secret.
Comment from flawlessfarmer - 12/22/06 10:57 AM

WOW, I was shocked to find out that daybreak was cancelled it was a good television show. I think ABC should have giving the show another chance all the best to Taye Diggs.
Comment from islandlady1969 - 12/22/06 10:41 AM

what with his white girl thing? And, has he decided that he's gay as well. Just shows, that just because something looks good, doesn't mean, it's good.

”We are discussing his bitterness in attacking black women for not supporting him.”

When did he attack black women??? Did he say black women were fat, smelly, ugly or unintelligent? What exactly did he say?? Are you confusing personal preference for vitriol? Which is it?

”You are being way too sensitive…….”

Ha! Not really. I have no invested interest in this guy. I saw his shows in passing but I never watched them. I don’t watch much television. There is just too much mindlessness that is being fostered and promulgated. Sometimes I do surf and catch things but not on a regular basis.

”…..and sound stupid as he does.”

I sound as stupid as he does? Uh huh….I see. I guess that is the reason there are more than 80 posts dogging this guy and not one of them are mine…right? I’m stupid for not condemning the man for his personal life and you’re not? Ok…ok....I got it.

”Taye Diggs: "But I’m a grown-ass man and if people have a difficult time dealing with that, then I welcome them to see a movie with Omar Epps or Denzel Washington or some of those other brothers that have chosen to spend the rest of their lives with sisters,"End of Quote.”

And??? So what? That’s his personal opinion! If Angela Bassett, CCH Pounder or Lisa Bonet said they didn’t date black men because they treated them badly or they weren’t attracted to them, my reaction would simply be –good! Do what you do and be happy. I could care less. What someone does in their personal life does not bother me nor am I interested. Unlike you, I don’t take such things personal. But you do! If you didn’t, you would be belly aching, gritting your teeth with bitterness and rejection about what someone else, who you don’t know personally nor do they have any impact whatsoever in your life, does in their personal life! But what do I know? Like you said, I’m stupid for not working myself up in to an emotional lather about the decisions someone makes in their –not mine, personal life. My bad……….

” Now someone tell me how black women should react to everything implied in that statement? “

Can’t say since I am not a black woman. But I told you what I would say if the role was reversed and a black woman said that: "More power to ya and good luck! I have a life. So what you do with yours is not my concern nor interest". But of course that would be unreasonable and asking too much.

”He's dumber than Wesley Snipes!”

Yeah -whatever. We already discussed this. Not gonna rehash it again………….

Ntfs, I have to disagree with you here. If it is true that this man is making blanket accusations against "Black women" for the failure of his programs, then he has made it my personal business. I did not even know who he was married to, nor do I care now. But he needs to be willing to acknowledge that perhaps people were just not feeling these shows--all people. (Or at least, not enough to cause the networks to keep them on air.) That kind of thing comes with being in the entertainment business. As does having your personal life open for public scrutiny. If his response to that is to talk about he's a "grown-a** man" and whatnot, then he needs to not only get a clue, but he needs to grow up as well.
