It’s not Thanksgiving, I know, but I just got back from purchasing a tube of toothpaste which came with a free toothbrush, and out of the blue I started thinking about how lucky we are to have simple things like toothpaste/brushes. Yeah it‘s silly. But imagine what folks had to do before these items, and luxury items and other necessities like toilet paper, were invented..yikes! That’s what motivated me to come up with this short list of little things I am grateful for:

Toothbrushes & toothpaste

Toilet paper

Hot sauce (I’m one of those people that put hot sauce on everything, lol)

Microwavable Food/Take Out

Sax Fifth Avenue/Lord & Taylor (when I can spare)

Sweaty men playing basketball

And, last but not least: LIFE (which is technically not a little thing but it’s something that I (and we) often take for granted)

What are you grateful for?

I see. I thought you were trying to protect yourself from your wife. Also, I figure all STDs are unwanted.

Lola,

Okay. I guess "unwanted" was intented more to modify "babies" than to modify "STD's".

Although, if you consider the rates of HIV infections that were cited in the another post, you might get the impression that SOME of us Black foks "want" to get burnt.

Hahahaha!!!

I would ask you what you especially like about your vagina. But my wife (and your husband) might get me.

Nice lists, everybody. Funny. Va-jay-jays and condoms aside, I concur with many of your items. I would add bodies, including minds, that function (relatively) within normal ranges. The older I get the less I take my simple functioning for granted. I used to be sooooo embarassed when my grandmother would go on and on about "regularity," for example. But regular is good. LOL.

So I add health, mental accuity, memories, and access to health care. Plus the ability to take more things in stride and confidence in one's skin that comes with age--and that research is increasingly indicating helps with longevity.

I am grateful for

Soap (Thank you Jesus)

Indoor plumbing (going outside is such a drag)

Kotex (what would we ever do without those???)

Deo, Lotions, Potions and Perfumes (Thank you Jesus)

Packaged butchered meat (Thank God I don't have to hunt it down and kill it myself, cuz I'm squeamish. Plus I'm afraid the animals might bite.)

Grocery stores (What a convenience I don't have to grow my vegetables and make all that stuff my own self - churning butter is a major hassle)

Cars (I hate walking)

All the other stuff that everyone else is thankful for.

I'm grateful for:

The children who have become my friends
The grandchildren who have become my teachers
The great-grandbabies who have become my joy
My precious memories
My good health and longevity
My mental faculties and my sense of humor.
My computer
My cable TV
The long-overdue solitude which allows me to meditate and contemplate the mysteries of life.

Tonya, your mention of Lord & Taylor reminds me of an old roommate who had a closet FULL of $500 PLUS purses (one Louis Vuitton she owned cost $1000). Girl couldn't be DRAGGED out of there on sale days.....

and was often low on rent money and had to pay late or ask her parents to pay. That girl was hilarious. I hope she's OK where ever she is....or that her parents still have money to bail her out.

As her brother told us "She's got a $700 purse with 19 cents in it."

Moonsigns, I feel you on the Godiva and Lindt chocolates.

I'm also grateful for my hair dresser. He is an openly gay (flamboyant) and hilarious Dominican and CAN'T NOBODY hook up my doo quite like him. I've been going to him for the past three years and I always tell him that if I ever get rich, I'm gonna hire him to be my PERSONAL hairdresser.

Dominicans can do hair!!!!!!!!!! They do the best roller sets and use incredible products! Where I live, there are a lot of Dominican hair salons and they're so inexpensive! And, they can get us in and out of the salon in no time!

An e-mailer scolds me because the things on my list were "big" things to be grateful for, not little ones, and also wonders why nobody included a vibrator on this request for little pleasures to be grateful for. LMAO.

Because the vibrator is a BIG thing and so are the orgasms that it causes. So if you're still using that little teenee weenee one from 1962, it's time for an upgrade. Because size matters :-)
