And I'm telling you, if Jennifer Hudson doesn't end up accepting a best supporting actress statuette at this year's Oscars, there are going to be a lot of people booing in the audience at the Kodak Theater. Still, for Hudson, all the early acclaim for her powerhouse performance in director Bill Condon's "Dreamgirls" is incredibly humbling. "I feel honored, and I'm just in awe, because last year this time, I had just got the role and the only thing on my mind was not to disappoint the people who gave me the job," Hudson says. "I never even dreamed of this, even thought about it. I just feel so special that my name is even being mentioned." The movie finds Hudson playing Effie, a character inspired by Florence Ballard, one of the original members of the '60s girl group The Supremes. Ballard originally shared lead vocals before being demoted to back-up because manager Berry Gordy felt Diana Ross had more crossover appeal -- a situation that befalls Effie with her group the Dreams in the movie. Ballard was eventually kicked out of the group after bouts of depression and alcohol abuse and died under tragic circumstances at the tender age of 32. "Dreamgirls'" Effie has a different and more inspiring journey that Hudson could relate to after a tumultuous experience as a finalist on "American Idol." "I felt like, yes, then there's a parallel between Effie and my story, my experience with 'Idol'," Hudson says. "I [was] eliminated and still having to go against all odds to pursue my goals, and Effie doing the same when she was kicked out of the Dreams." More importantly, Hudson's portrayal of Effie needed to step out of the shadow of Jennifer Holiday, who originated the role on Broadway when the musical debuted 25 years ago. Hudson admits she didn't know much about the show before she was cast, but she certainly knew of Holiday's legendary pipes. "I thought the original character of Effie was Jennifer Holliday. I used to say, 'I want to play Jennifer Holliday on Broadway,'" Hudson says laughing at herself. "That's how much I knew of 'Dreamgirls.'" Unlike Effie, who hides her insecurity behind a boisterous façade, the last thing Hudson would be accused of having is a diva complex. In fact, as rehearsals began, it was clear Hudson's natural sweetness was infecting her portrayal of the character. She remembers Condon putting her through all these courses, including "Evil 101," to build up "that aggressiveness and that presence -- that confidence she possessed." Hudson's performance in "Dreamgirls" helped her land a major record deal with label impresario Clive Davis, the man behind the careers of Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys. She hasn't had much time to think about what sort of material they'll record except she expects it will definitely have some "Effie" style to it. "That's where my heart is in music, and I just want to contribute to bringing back songs of substance and music with a message," Hudson says. "And the only thing I can guarantee is a lot of soul."

This is the review kola boof in one of her guises gave the movie. Guess kola's mad cuz she lost out on the Eddie Murphy role, LMAO. "Dreamgirls is wack. However, Jennifer Hudson's performance is exquisite, and the cinematography is beautifully done. The direction is awful--it's just a bunch of stars upstaging each other. A plethora of mega blackstars stuffed into a few hours does not automatically make for a good film. The film is highly overrated. Anyone who saw the Broadway play in the 80's will be deeply disappointed. Black films need more care and attention from skilled filmmakers who intimately understand the craft...instead of the overly biased Hollywood 'machine' calling the shots. The perception is that blacks wouldn't recognize a quality film if it bit us in our ghetto asses." |

Cynner, seems you're the only one trolling on this board, maniacally cutting and pasting comments. You are truly delusional. It might be from the rabies flowing through your canine blood, finally infecting your already degenerate brain. or it could be the syphyllis in its final stages of infection--insanity. its probably one of many complications resulting from your mixed-up condition. In any case, there happens to be more than one individual on the board besides Kola who knows that your allegiance is indeed to your PALE-FACED forefathers, no surprise there, you beige DISGRACE |

Have any of you seen the trailer? They have Jennifer Hudson belting out her dynamic rendition of Jennifer Holiday's And I Am Telling You, (no one will ever sing that song as well as Ms. Holiday, but Ms. Hudson does a damn good job), but when they announce who stars in the film only Murphy, Fox, and Knowles are mentioned. No mention whatsoever of Hudson. That pissed me off! |

Word is that Beyonce walked the red carpet for the first premier of this movie but skipped watching the film to go hang out with Jay-Z. Rumor has it that she didn't want to be around when the audience gave Jennifer's rendition of "And I Am Tellin You" a standing ovation. Beyonce is also said to have commented that she should've gained a 30 pounds so she could've played the Effie role instead of Jennifer. Beyonce is undoubtedly miffed and disappointed about the way things are going, but this is a good lesson in life for her to learn. Ya can't win em all. |

Beyonce suffers from what all redbones suffer from--a sick sense of entitlement... Im sure she'd like to bathe in Jennifer's Negro blood. |

Why are you sure of this? Why would Beyonce dilute her red-bone blood by bathing in Jennifer's negro blood, if indeed she felt a sense of entitlement? How silly. |

"Only your sick breed would "trully" understand the depths of your sickness." Good grief. Aside from not being able to spell, toubootie, you seem totally incapable of writing a coherent sentence. If you're an "observer", you need to get some new glasses. This would help you to see better while you're lurking around Beyonce's house so you can follow her when she sneaks over to Jennifer's pad and hides in her bathroom in order to bathe in any negro blood that Jennifer leaves in the tub. ROTFLOL. |

Cynner, I know your herpes is flaring up again, but kola doesn't want you, get over it. I hear she's 'strictly dickly,' not 'prickly punane.' Stop blaming us for your ineptitude by nature of your tainted genetics.

I don't blame you for anything, toubooti. You can't help it if syphylis has deterioriated your brain. So what about it, dumb-dumb? Have you gotten a different brand of bleach cream or better hair extensions so you can fulfill your dream of looking like Beyonce. You know damned well you wake up every morning cursing your "purity". And I guess you would know about kola's preferences since if it wasn't for her, you wouldn't get screwed at all, mutt face. You're pitiful, so just move on. You're a waste of my time. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

How does it feel to be the personification of white imperialism, rape, pillaging? "Out damned SPOT!" Cynner you're but a stain, a blemish, a white pus filled red cyst, hooked nosed heiffer....

LMAO. How obvious can it be that your obsesssion with color is indicative of how unsatisfied you are with you own, Bootie-face? Color is unimportant to me. I'm comfortable with how I look. Too bad you can't say the same. Maybe you'd feel better if you re-located in the jungle. In the meantime, go back to envying Beyonce, you jealous-assed quadriped. |
