Stuff like this actually makes me want to cry sometimes! Shows you how ignorant those times were...makes me sick to think ,even today, some people still view blacks in this light. |

Can you imagine coming up then and thinking it was funny until you realized that the joke was on you? Oh, there was a million of 'em--I remember that puppetoon with Jasper and the scarecrow and they went to Watermelon land and they were singing this song, "Gonna be troule in Watermelonland tonight--" You know, when I see that kind of stuff, I still laugh--lots of younger people don't think it is funny. |

But in all seriousness, I am sure there will be some things that I think is funny now that my future grandchildren will be horrified about. |

Back in the day, I remember when cartoons used to be shown on the same bill with double features in movie theaters, and when this type came on, black kids would be laughing as hard as the rest of the audience. Ignorance is bliss... Later, as an adult, when TV first came on the scene, and these same old cartoons started appearing on it, I couldn't believe how blatantly racist they were! But once again I would find myself laughing, this time at the ignorance of the clueless bigots who produced them. |

Little Black Sambo And the sad thing is that he was not black -he was an Indian! The first black Sambo had nothing to do with black people. He was an Indian. Strange how things get twisted and turned around.
