Oprah-inspired diamond necklace wins award November 14, 2006 (This article is posted for you Ms. Cynique ) Tracy Borlase's winning "O Afrique" diamond necklace pays tribute to her and Oprah Winfrey's African heritage. Toronto—Canada's Excellence in Design 2006 competition awarded the top prize in the diamond category to designer Tracy Borlase for her Oprah Winfrey-inspired diamond necklace. Borlase—originally from South Africa—said the piece was designed for one of her clients who was set to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She created the necklace "O Afrique" as a tribute to her own heritage and Winfrey's African heritage. The small "O" shaped pendant represents the disc-shaped jewelry popular in Africa and also stands for "Oprah." It also features a zebra-striped pattern of 225 black and white diamonds, and hangs from a black, rhodium-plated, 14-karat white-gold chain. The 35-year-old designer ran a successful business and studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, before deciding to move to Toronto eight years ago. She made the move to get away from a violent post-Apartheid climate where, as a young woman, she felt increasingly at risk. Excellence in Design 2006 is the first competition Borlase has entered since arriving in Canada. The annual competition is sponsored by Canadian Jeweller and Jewellers Vigilance Canada. http://nationaljewelernetwork.com/njn/content_display/fashion/e3id0OydHexiVnbajP2vuj5UQ%3D%3D

Poor Oprah. Maybe this necklace will console her. She's trying to keep a stiff upper lip and pretend she understands, but I know she's miffed over not being invited to Tom Cruise's wedding. Probably had what she was going to wear all picked out, - planning on a new hair-style 'n everything. Once again the big "O" has been snubbed. tsk-tsk |

Tom Cruise probably doesn't like Black ppl. He just puts his feet on their sofa and drives on. |

Tom LOVES Jada Pinkett and Will Smith. Also seems to like Jamie Foxx and Cuba Gooding, 2 co-stars of his who won Oscars. I think he got pissed off with "O" because after he went into his frenzy on her show, she later implied that she was baffled by his antics. |

You're right - she did do that. I forgot all about it. He's justified to snub her then, she doesn't deserve to be invited to the glamorous Italian castle to witness the $2M wedding dress |

FYI - Tom Cruise and ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, have an adopted Black son. I believe Conner is the little boy's name. I'm not sure but I think he's around 10. TC and NK were amongst Hollywood's first power couples to adopt a Black child, long before it became fashionable. Actress Michelle Pfeiffer also has an adopted Black daughter. She should be a teenager by now. I'm pretty certain that Tom's beef with O is that she jumped on the bandwagon along with everyone else accusing him of being a looney tune. |

Cyn-- "She's trying to keep a stiff upper lip and pretend she understands, but I know she's miffed over not being invited to Tom Cruise's wedding." O's probably getting exactly what she deserves. Having "big" money doesn't give you a license to "dis" everyone. She comes off as a bit of a phony anyway - just like tryin' to be a "proper" Negro, as some would say. She'd do better to spend some of her billions and get a "real" face job. Yeah, that's right. Her "entire" mug is totally jacked up. Many celebrities have nice mugs and bad bottom teeth, but she's just the exact opposite. Hmmm. |

If I see another photo op of Tom and Katie at a soccer game cheering on his adopted kids, I'll barf. The son looks bi-racial and a little older than 10. And I remember the first thing I thought when I saw a picture of Michelle's curly-headed daughter, Claudia, was that she has some black blood in her! I don't think she's a teen-ager yet. And yes, Oprah owes her preserved appearance to expert make-up and special lighting. BTW, Whitney is now sporting a blond hairstyle and thanks to her cosmetician is looking great. But rumor has it she is about to lose her mansion to foreclosure because her mortage is a million bucks in arrears. And speaking of cosmeticians and arrears, Michael Jackson made his first public appearance in a long time at the World Music awards in London where he was backed up by a children's chorus as he sang "We Are The World" and grabbed his crotch. And that's it for today, kiddies. This is your favorite pop culture vulture signing off until next time. Ta-Ta. |
