Sorry for the delayed response but I really didn’t know what to think when this was posted. I thought I would be the last person on this board anyone would ask. But thank you. I don’t know how interesting this will turn out, but here goes…… Oh yeah, I'll deal with the closet queen jack ass that posted that nonsense above later..... 1. Where was your last vacation and why? Stateside it was the Monterey Jazz Festival. I have a life time friend who has been trying to get me to go for years. I finally stepped up to the plate. I had a great time. It was great. Overseas was Scotland. Went to visit a friend who was teaching there. I loved it. One thing about Europe that has always amazed me is how old it is. There were some incredible sites and castles that I saw. THE PLACE IS OLD! Very historical. England and Ireland were also very interesting. 2. If you could possess any super powers or a combination of, what would they be and why? Hmmmmmm……Hard to say. Being a former Silver Age Marvel comic fanatic, you’d think I’d have a clue. I’d probably say the telekinetic and mind powers of Dr. Xavier of the X-Men. I’m sure you have an idea of the possibilites if you could control peoples minds. Ha! Ha! Ha! 3. What is your profession? I was a Correction Officer until I suffered a serious injury on the job. I can no longer do that anymore. Right now I’m doing some IT stuff, studying for my Certs, going to school and considering my options. I have a friend who wants me to work at the Pentagon but I don’t know about that. Home Land Security is another big option. Had the opportunity to be a Deputy Parole Officer but I walked away from that. I could go back to the technical side of Naval radar and weapons system development or civilian land/ship board radar and navigation. Much money and travel but I have no interest in that anymore. I have options and since I’m single I can do whatever I want. Lotta things are floating around in my head. 4. Outside of AA literature, what are your hobbies? Art, music, building servers and computers, photography, going to movies, art galleries, historic museums, working out, documenting war and military history, reading biographies and book collecting. 5. What are your inspirations in life? The Harlem Renaissance period, the human and civil rights period of the 1950’s and 1960’s and key black figures. There are too many individuals to list. Trust me, I have a very extensive collection of books and videos on black American history and biographies. I also have a collection of the original old Jet magazines from the 50’s and 60’s, original hard cover books written by James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Chester Himes, et al. Reading about the social conditions and adversities these people endured and languished under greatly motivates and inspires me. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to met General Benjamin O. Davis Jr., four star general and former Commanding Officer of the Tuskegee Airman (332d Fighter Group) and Americas first black graduate of West Point of the 20th Century, when he came to San Diego to speak about 15 years ago. I was stunned when I went to hear him speak and the audience was 97.5 % white! Needless to say, that really bothered me. Anyway, after hearing this man tell his personal story of what he faced and supplementing this information with research and reading his autobiography, I was more than impressed. Realizing the blatant racism, ostracism, hostility and deliberate obstructions this man faced and endured, greatly inspired me. The abuse and racism this man faced was very motivational and made me realize how much I owe people like him and countless other blacks, recognized and obscure, for the sacrifices they made for future generations of blacks. I was very fortunate to meet him before he passed away in 2002 at the age of 90. 6. What would you say is the most memorable thread to date on this board? Hard to say. There was a time when there were a few that have really angered and shocked me. Not so much for what was said but rather the extreme level of ignorance that generated the comments. I will admit, at one time it was somewhat disturbing. But since I have identified the individuals, it no longer bothers me. The mind set goes beyond just having a personal opinion. It's indicative of other problems. But many of the threads have interesting and entertaining responses. And some I have found myself virtually falling on the floor from laughing. But nothing in particular comes to mind. 7. What wayward member do you wish would return? Hmmmmmmm……can’t really say. There was someone named Ms. Hart or something like that. She was in a brawl almost evey time she posted. I found her to be very entertaining and I enjoyed her posts. There was someone named Snake Girl or something like that. A spoof…? Hmmmmm…..I dunno. She and I got into it a few brawls. Some of the more senior members will remember a character that identified himself ethnically as an Ethiopian (I think that was his moniker also) and I was stunned at the outrageous racist name calling and venom he had towards American blacks. I don’t know the story behind this person or if it was a stunt. By his referring to black Americans as niggers, monkeys, apes, uncivilized, ugly, stupid, racially inferior, etc, etc..was too much. As I recall, he was so bad, Troy pulled the plug on him. The racism and insults had gotten totally out of hand. As I said, some of the more senior members of the board could probably give more accurate details of that situation. 8. Do you have any talents that we don't know about? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I’m sure of that! But I don’t want to give all my secrets away. 9. Fish, steak or pizza? What's your preference on a Friday night? Fish! If prepared differently, I could eat fish seven days a week. It wouldn’t bother me. My diet consists of fish and poultry. I’m not much a red meat eater. I can't really get into steaks and pork chops. I Never buy either. But I will bolt down a greasy double cheese burger (I know –it’s disgusting but what can I say?). I’ll eat any vegetable you put in front of me. I make no distinctions. If it is a veggie and you serve it to me –it’s gone! I will admit I did something today I have never done before –I bought some liver. Because of it’s rich content of the B complex vitamin, I decided to do it. As you know, it was very easy to prepare. I plan to finish the rest of it tomorrow. I’ll probably incorporate it in my diet once a week. I don’t know of many people who like liver but I have a tendency to eat things not because they necessarily taste good but because they have nutritional value. But fish works for me. As I said, I could eat it every day. 10. Beer, Cosmopolitan or Jack n Coke? What's your poison on a Friday night? Beer or Mr. Daniels works for me. I’m a scotch, bourbon, cognac and Irish whiskey man. Any and all work for me. About two years ago I was experimenting with a lot of German, Russian, Czech, English, Polish, Dutch, Belgian and American crafted beers. I documented every single beer, keep a log and wrote reviews of every one. When I took out the recyclable container, if you saw it, you would have thought it came from a bar! I went through quite a few –trust me! I also love scotch. There are American and real scotches that I enjoy. When I was in Scotland, going to a real brewery was something I had to do! Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Laphroaig, Talisker, J&B, Cutty Sark and Johnnie Walker Blue all work for me. I love Irish Whiskeys also. Tullamore Dew, Black Bush, Bushmills and Jameson top the list. And when it comes to bourbons, I tend to go with Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, Booker's (126.6 proof -whoa!!???), Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack and Blantons. I'm a very basic and unsophisticated cognac man. Used to do Hennessy but I prefer the smoothness of Courvoisier. Delamain, Pierre-Ferrand, Martell and Martell are my other favorite cognacs. 11. What do you like to do to unwind? Reading, doing research on the internet, listening to music, going to the movies, watching a good documentary on television, talking to friends, watching a good sports event or having a nice cold brew or shot of whiskey! 12. How would your friends describe you? Good question. Since I’m not always aware of how people perceive me, I did ask a few friends what they thought. The consensus in a nut shell was: Easy going, very friendly, thoughtful, arrogant (?), a loner, very intelligent, very talkative, play my cards very close to my chest, sensitive, forthright, very judgmental (whaaa?), empathetic, great sense of humor –sometimes too excessive, intense, very loyal and confrontational. That’s what they said. I don’t know about all of them but I’m sure a number of the descriptions are correct. And there ya have it!

Well, no surprise here. You are pretty much what I discerned you to be from your posts, NTFS; a very well-rounded, personable, worldly, intelligent young man! And of course, I especially appreciate the fact that we seem to be on the same wave length and that although we may disagree, we respect each other's opinions. Love ya, babe! |

Nice to "meet" you, NTSF! BTW, I did this disk clean-up on my laptop at home and came across a bunch of files labelled "ntsf encryption"--That's what you named your screen self after? What meaning does it have for you? I understand these are files that only the user is supposed to be able to access--Is that part of it? "Encrypted man of mystery," aye? LOL |

In a nutshell, NTFS is a file format that is more secure than the standard FAT16 and FAT32 file format. NTFS stands for New Technology File System. NTFS replaced Microsoft's previous FAT file system, used in MS-DOS and early versions of Windows. It is the standard file system of Windows NT and its descendants: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista. NTFS allows you to encrypt your folders or files so that only you have access to it. I was working on something and couldn't think of anything to use as a cyber moniker at the time. It popped into my head and I decided to use it. Now you know another one of my secrets. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

NTFS, thanks so much for replying and... WOW!!!! That WAS a very interesting read! Who'd have thought that you were so well rounded?!?! It seems as though when you take an interest in something, you immerse yourself in all of its facets & nuances. I certainly understand your frustration with the lack of blacks in the audience to hear General Davis. I've always felt the need to engage our younger generations in living history. Great job!!! |

"WOW!!!! That WAS a very interesting read! Who'd have thought that you were so well rounded?!?!” Yeah, I have a lot of irons in the fire when it comes to interests and passions. I really didn’t illuminated on the things that really drive me. But to be honest, it’s really more of a pain than a blessing. Sometimes I’m trying to do so many things I suffer from theparalysis of indecision! Believe it or not, probably 4/5 of all my physical possessions are books, music and art. I can’t help myself. Ha! Ha! Ha! ”It seems as though when you take an interest in something, you immerse yourself in all of its facets & nuances.” This is very true. I have a very addictive personality. When I’m into something –I’m into it! I can be very hard core about my interests and passions. ”I certainly understand your frustration with the lack of blacks in the audience to hear General Davis.” Thank you. Ya know, when I was very young, I read an article on Mr. Davis. I believe it was in Ebony magazine. I dismissed him as an Uncle Tom and stooge for the man. I was just like many of the younger readers of this board. Quick to denounce and attack anyone who I felt did not measure up to my brand of ideological blackness. In my mind, he was not black enough –not fiery and outspoken enough against racism. Many years later, when I did my research, I learned exactly who he was and what he had accomplished. When I examined the details of his life, I had a very quick change of heart and mind. And when I saw and heard him tell his story of the racism and senseless bigotry he overcame, I was a very humbled man. I knew I could never endure nor accomplish what he had done. As I stated before, I have many black heroes and sources of inspiration. I examine and research very carefully the conditions these people existed under and I always ask myself, “If it were me –what would I have done?” I've always felt the need to engage our younger generations in living history. This is very true. In fact, this is a very serious problem I have with so many young black people. It’s their extreme disrespect and ignorance of their history and a seemingly willful disregard and apathy towards the history of our people and what black people had to endure and struggle for. They seem to believe everything of worth revolves around their MTV/BET/VH1 –Hip Hop/Rap brain washed generation. And nothing of significance or importance existed before 1970. It is very depressing. But much of it is the failure of their parents. I recall when I went to see the Tuskegee Airman (Mr. Davis was their CO), once again, I was stunned to see a 95% white audience. Now the reason I’m telling this story is because I vividly recall a white woman aggressively bring her two small children by the hand to meet the former Tuskegee Airman. She had the children ask the airmen for their autographs and I recall her bending down and telling her children, "You should remember what we are doing, these men are great American heroes"(sic). I stood there in amazement. Where were all the black people? They were their heroes first and foremost. The black airman were very humbled by the enthusiastic welcome they received from these people. These white people stood up, clapped for these airman and when the question and answer period came, they knew everything about them and asked very specific detailed questions. But it was the white mothers with their children who came forth to met these brothers that amazed me. For some strange reason, we don’t accord our black historical heroes the respect and reverence they deserve. E’nuff said….
