There is a number of African American and minority people in the office I am working at now. Though one person really stands out. She is a VERY dark skinned Black Women. I suspect that many African Americans have some White Ancestry because they are lighter skinned. I see pictures of Blacks in some African Countries and they seem so dark in comparison to the Blacks I see in America. Anyway, this women looks like she came straight from Africa. I have never seen anyone this dark. I have talked to her and she seems very nice. She speaks well and is a very hard worker. Though I see that the other Black people in the office seem to isolate her. I wonder if it is an issue of her extra dark skin. So I decided to ask a question on this board and get a feeling from other people what they think is happening here. |

It could be a lot of factors why they don't speak to her. Maybe she is an introvert and doesn't talk very much. Or they could be prejudice. You're not giving much information, so I don't know what it could be. |

I'm sorry this story was written by a white guy on monster.com. He was making an observation about a real dark-skinned BW in his office. He said that he was noticing how the other BP treat her. |

I have noticed that Africans and black Americans don't congregate much where I live. I think that Americans, who base more on race and naturally congregate towards people of the same race, think that this is strange. However as an African she may have been surrounded primarily by blacks and finds other criteria on which to base relationships like culture, nationality, income, class, etc. I don't think the situation is that serious. |
