A lot of posts have ABM and Nolan Fane and NTFS and Troy Johnson and GRIND lamenting the growing hatred that some black women have for black men.
I often find myself BAFFLED at how these intelligent men could even be so out of touch.
I want to re-post something that NTFS posted.
And I want to ask ABM, Nolan, Troy, NTFS and all the black men here-----
WHY EXACTLY is the following not equivalent to lynching and in their minds. WHY EXACTLY is the following not worthy of its own revolution??
And how can they possibly live amongst black women and not SEE that this is happening and that it's more unnatural than any amount of FAGGOTRY could ever be?
NTFS:
I talked to a friend of mine who lives in Ohio earlier today and she told me her nephew who is 21 (college junior with a electrical engineering major), dates only Puerto Rican and white girls exclusively. She asked him why he did not consider dating black women and he told her black women were too loud, obnoxious, hostile and had too many babies. Then he said he was not attracted to black women because they were too ghetto, fat, wore wigs and weaves and he liked long soft hair, not short nappy hair. She then told me that she believed this preferences were having an affect on his younger brother who is 17 and heading to college also. She said the younger brother is dating a tall gorgeous blond who is a freshman at the local university. She also told me he has a nasty habit of laughing at black women and calling them chicken heads and not heads. When she questioned him about the name calling, she said he just shrugs his shoulders and laughs about it. He once told her he wasn’t attracted to egg plants (dark complexioned black women)! Wow! Hard core!
Anyway, both are very bright students and the younger one has his eyes set on Stanford University with a pre-med major (he has the grades and is excellent math student). They are very promising young black men but unfortunately, neither have any interest in black women. What can you do about that? Nothing!
I suggest black women who are dark complexioned with nappy hair get an education, become financially independent and seek relationships with men who will treat them well and offer them the quality of relationships they desire. If you wallow in the self defeating politics of skin color and race, you may very well pass up a man who truly loves you and offers you the respect you deserve and need. Don’t concern your self with the narrow preferences of a few black men. Life is too damn short to cheat yourself out of a possible meaningful relationship with a non-black man. Not to mention spending your life embittered and angry about the preferences of black men you have no influence nor control over. That’s what I think………
Why shouldn't black women feel HATE for these kind of men...of whom there are MORE OF THEM...than Black men who LOVE black women in this country.
And since men who LOVE black women will never
CONFRONT and DISASSOCIATE with these men or
this behavior---why shouldn't you be hated
as a PROTECTOR of it????
And how do BLACK MEN with "nappy hair" fail to acknowledge that Africans are not supposed to have European hair???

Don't you see Kola Spoof? The Black man is tired of whiney, naggy, questioning, complaining, needy, clingy, begging, co-dependent NIGGERSTOCK like you.
The Black man is just like any other man. He wants a supportive helpmate. He wants peace of mind. He wants to be made to feel like a king - not a child. He wants to come home to a hot meal on the table and friendly, intelligent conversation. He wants a woman that will help him get ahead, not stay behind the eightball.
We (the Black community) are now into the second, third and possibly even fourth generation of out-of-wedlock single mother homes. Most people have never even witnessed a loving relationship between a Black man and a Black woman and their children. They have no positive role models to serve as an example of a happy structured family life. They have to watch THE COSBYs.
And unfortunately, an antagonistic presence such as yourself only perpetuates this whole cycle. No marriage, children out of wedlock, babydaddy laid up with a white woman, and your grandchildren will probably be born out of wedlock too. Meanwhile the Black woman continues to bemoan the current state of things and wonder what the matter is. |

I really do appreciate there are wonderful black men out there and I hope any such man reading this doesn’t take what I am going to say the wrong way, but reading ugly comments about black women makes me angry so I feel I have a right to “fight back” as it were. For any black man reading this post who feels he’s superior to black women, let me put some things into perspective.
First, I know it’s stating the obvious but if a black man has disdain for black womens’ skin and hair, then obviously he has disdain for his OWN SKIN AND HAIR…white folk have not given black men honorary white status. Lol… and marrying a white woman/ woman who is lighter than you does not erase black status, if anything your black status is emphasized by marrying white/ light.
Second, black men are not the only ones who can reject - there are some black women who only date white men who wouldn’t look twice at a black man. My sister is just one example of an attractive black woman who dates exclusively white (I have known several other attractive black women who date exclusively white). I’m not saying that’s good - I don’t agree with it - I’m just making the point that black men have not got a monopoly on rejection.
Third, perhaps this "black men being seen as more desirable than black women idea" is getting blown out of proportion. I mean for all the rappers, athletes and CEOs who are sought after by non-black women there could be just as many black women actresses, singers and models who are sought after by other races...What about Diana Ross, Diahann Caroll, Donna Summer, Naomi Campbell, Iman, Halle Berry, Kerry Washington, Tina Turner, Grace Jones? These are just a sample of the black female celebrities who are married to/ have been married to/ have/ have had non-black partners.
To sum up, if black women are denigrated, in my opinion black men are equally denigrated. You cannot hate/ have disdain for half a race lol.

And you CAN hate half a race. Just read the title of this thread. If Black women hate Black men, does that mean that they also hate themselves??? I doubt it. |

Kola_boof - to answer your question directly, I think that fair-minded black men would and do acknowledge the unique difficulties black women face in terms of gendered racism. If you are being criticized for "hating black men" for merely drawing attention to gendered racism, well that's because gendered racism is a taboo issue - a lot of men practice it - so naturally some black men are going to be defensive and the best defence is to attack you for bashing black men. |

I'm not saying it's written in stone that black female celebrities are as highly sought after as black male celebrities - I was saying that may be the case - I doubt the black female celebrities in question had difficulty finding non-black men to date/ marry.

Although I understand and agree with very MUCH of what you describe, I think that Black women – mothers, sisters, kin, wives and friends – are largely RESPONSIBLE for the suffering you describe. I think Black women largely enable and replicate elements of White Supremacy (e.g., hair straightening and extensions) that manifest in the troubles they have with Black men.
Moreover. I generally think and believe you can NOT persuade people via condemnation. I think you do such by INSPIRING them.
But you don’t really seek to persuade Black men. As a whole, you consider us a lost cause. So then, what can and should a middle age African American man think and feel about THAT?

In my opinion they shouldn’t be catching flak from black folk AT ALL since the interracial dating/ marriage issue is very gender-specific. As I argue on my blog, the situation pertaining to black women and non black men is COMPLETELY different from the situation relating to black men and non black women… it could be argued that black women and non black men pairings are often a “reaction” / practical response to black men seeking out non-black women. In my view you can’t have an honest discussion on this topic without first acknowledging that the interracial relationship issue IS very gender specific certainly in white dominated countries such as the US and UK.
And do you consider the (now perfunctory) "shortage of good Black men" argument is valid justification for this apparent discrepancy?

My two cents - all I can say is if one is claiming that black racial preference for Caucasian features is the result of an inate preference, then it follows that you also believe that Caucasian features are inately superior. If as a black person one is so in awe of another racial groups features that you prefer them to that of your own group, you are effectively saying your group and by extension you are inferior... how can you be black YOURSELF and switch off being attracted to black members of the opposite sex - I don't envy people in this position because they must be extremely conflicted. |

In some ways, Black women suffer more than Black men. And in some ways, Black men suffer more than Black women. Both create the miseries of each other and themselves.
You're off your rocker if you HONESTLY believe there have been no Black men who have risked and sacrificed their lives to protect their families and to advance our rights and liberation.
You know. This nation's very FIRST Black millionaire was a WOMAN...Madame C.J. Walker…who made her great fortune encouraging other Black women to straighten their hair. And that started PRIOR to the 1920's. Black WOMEN have greatly contributed to and buttressed the colorism problem. And they contributed to raising Black sons to think and feel as they do.
I am taking care of my BLACK wife and children. I think other Black men should do the same. But what I am able to do is greatly ENABLED by being blessed to have found and married a woman who wants cooperate and work to our achieving some mutual benefit. A LOT of Black men and Black women are UNINTERESTED in that. And A LOT of them do not know that, or don’t really give a dayam to know.

Actually Madame C. J. Walker, according to her biography, never made a million dollars. But she did, however, amass what was considered a considerable fortune back then. She also never encouraged women to straighten their hair. Her thing was grooming and keeping the hair healthy. She made straighten combs available to customers in order to be cometitive with her rival Palmers Skin and Hair Care company. Ida B. Wells was the quintiscential black woman, who among many accomplishments, helped organize the NAACP back in the early 1900s. But certain men, like fellow organizer W.E.B. DuBois, didn't want a woman to hold an office in this organization, so she was shut out and relelgated to the inocuous task of keeping minutes of their meetings. Wells went on to do great things especially in the field of journalism, and was a respected feminist and a tireless crusader against lynchings in the south, every year publishing a list identifying the hapless male victims of this astrocity. A housing project in Chicago was named after her and she holds a very revered place among the historically-conscious community of black Chicago. |

BrownDumbBitch - I don't attack anyone by calling them nappyheaded. When I've used the word nappy it's been part of a string of other insults intended to annoy. And it works. This is a late response to your post Cynique, I just read it today (20 Oct 06). Thank you for the very nice plug for Ms. C. J. Walker. Very nice and very true. I have two biographies on her. Thank you again for setting the record straight and according the proper respect to this pioneering black woman. The ignorance surrounding this woman by other blacks, particularly the post 1970 X-Gen, is appalling and pathetic.

You know I've been a big fan of these boards for several years now because it's still one of the few places on the net where you can find intelligent black people discussing timely, relevant, important issues that affect black people like me everyday. But after reading this particular thread I must say that I'm appalled, ashamed, disturbed, and very disappointed that intelligent black people would degrade themselves by conveying their thoughts in such a vile and malicious manner. Honestly, have you no civility? Obviously, people are passionate about how they feel and what they believe, but IMHO, that doesn't give you the right to spew hate-filled messages to those who don't agree with what you have to say.
To help stop this madness and help bring back the decorum these boards once displayed, I think it's time aalbc incorporate a little "moderation". Most of the forums out there today do this already, and I think it's long overdue here. And moderation doesn't have to consist of a group of people deciding which posts are "valid", rather it can be moderated by the very users of this site through a simple post rating system which exists today in most forum software. Ok, back to my hole. . . |

I'm certainly not advocating that we limit peoples art?, just give people the ability to filter it a little better which can be done with technology that already exists. Have a look at slashdot.org to see how this would work.

When I said art imitates life, I put art in quotes because it wasn't about visual art it was about the scenario of diaglogues that reflect what goes on in the real world. I wasn't aware that there were moderators on this board. Troy runs the show, and it's his call about what goes on, and I can count on one hand the times he has censored someone. |

Your point it is well taken. Sometimes the posts on this forum do take on a life of their own that can be very profane and uncivil at times. This I understand. And I sympathize with your being offended. I encourage you to partake in this discussion board and present your perspectives and emphasis your belief that discourse can be civil. But you have to understand, there are very different personalities and political beliefs that drive this discussion board. As a result, you are bound to have some fierce clashes and unfortunately, bad language and personal attacks at times. That’s just the way it is.

I understand your concern but I have to respectfully disagree with you. There is a very simple cure or option open to you –if you find a post or subsequent responses to a post offensive, move on to the next post that is less offensive. Why read something that offends or irritates you? I am totally opposed to this moderation thing because I am a fanatic for free expression of ideas and beliefs no matter how radical. Unless the literature or expression is advocating specific and directed violence, let the chips fall where they may. I really don’t like this idea of people who are offended by certain posts, desiring to curb or limit the expression of those they disagree with for whatever reason. In fact, I partake in a number of boards and one of the boards had a very lively political forum. Well, the rancor and exchanges got a little heated and they eliminated the political forum as a result! Needless to say, I was very disappointed and to some degree angered.
Another major board temporarily stopped their political forum, reopened it but put restrictions and a moderator on it. I voiced my disagreement with this policy which was created by people like you, who could not deal with the level of intensity of the participates. As a result of their inability to digest the commentaries by some of the posters, they wanted the forum shut down. I was gone from the board for a while but when I did return, I read this preface that accompanies the political forum. There were actual readers who were offended and angry that the moderator decided to reopen the forum. They wanted the political forum to stay closed!! Duuuuhhhhhh…??? Why? I engaged two of these censorship and politcally correct avocates. I had to. If you can’t deal with the heat -stay the hell out of the kitchen!!! It’s that simple! You can bypass and not read posts that offend you. You do understand this don’t you…??

Thanks for the thoughtful replies and considering my comments.
Before I clarify my earlier post, let me just say we all know the idea of "freedom" is great in theory but falls way short in reality because lets face it.. people do stupid shit period. that's why we have laws. As you'll see a little later in my post, I'm not even advocating that we censure what people post, but its hilarious to me that some would try and defend hate-filled, obscene, personal-attack posts that are running rampant on these boards. Do you honestly believe that people should be allowed to post anything they want? And of what value would that be?
Now, to those who feel my post was advocating censorship, that wasn't my intent at all. I'm as big a fan of free speech as anybody and I certainly wouldn't want to limit anybody's right to post, even given my earlier comments. The moderation system I was referring to wouldn't limit what people can post, rather, it would give the users of the boards the ability to rate posts based on some arbitrary scale and then in your profile, you'd be able to set it to only display posts that meet a certain criteria (say, posts rated 4 or higher on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being highest). I've seen this implemented on several forums in the past and usually what ends up happening is the garbage posts (those containing personal attacks, slanderous language) stay at the bottom where they belong, while the more thoughtful, on-topic posts rise to the top.
Again, I only mention this because I've enjoyed so many thoughtful and intelligent posts on these boards for a number of years that I couldn't just sit back and watch a few posters destroy that without at least voicing my opinion. |

You say you are not advocating censorship yet you contradict yourself with desiring a rating system for posts? Why? How is that different from restructuring the current system that allows posts, regardless of their content, to be posted as they are written in a serial manner? Let me get this right, you want to push posts that you deem vulgar or offensive to the bottom or whatever….is this correct? Uh huh….I don’t think so. The board is fine the way it is. I would like to see a more advanced software running that allows better editing and avatars but the format is fine the way it is. We don’t need our posts jumbled around and restricted to an arbitrary “naughty” zone. I suggest you ignore and not read posts that offend you or frequent a board that is easier for your sensibilities. WE DO NOT NEED NOR DO WE WANT ANY TYPE OF CENSORSHIP, MANIPULATION OF POSTINGS OR CATAGORIZING OF OUR POSTS BASED ON YOUR INABILITY TO DIGEST THE LANGUAGE. Sorry, but I don’t know any other way to say it.
You are free to post anything you like and I hope you continue to do so. But we are doing fine and not to be harsh or disrespectful, if you cannot deal with the language or material, I suggest you frequent boards that are more to your ethical liking.
