The Republicans have been doing everything they can to get slaughtered in the November elections but will the inept cowardly corrupt DLC Democrats blow it again? Recently Howard Dean was on the radio with a local black talk show host. When she asked him what was the Democrats' position on economic development for the Black Community he hemmed and hawwed over it and mentioned something about the Minimum Wage. When she repeated over and over that the Democrats seem to be running away from their most loyal constituency he all but ignored her. Black people are sick of getting a pat on the head for our efforts. They cannot win without us and so far as I see, black folks are real lackluster about showing up--the Republican Senate Candidate here, Jim Talent, has been more visible in the black community than Claire McKaskill. They deserted us in 2000 and 2004 and they paid the price. Will the Democrats blow it again? |

The Republican constituency is characterized by zealotry and blind loyalty. The Democrats are stuck in a rut, intellectualizing and sympathizing and rationalizing, but woefully lax on organizing enough to fight-fire-with-fire. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't end up being business as usual after the November elections. |

Chris, What's interesting is even though the GOP is crapping all over the place - most noticeably upon THEMSELVES - there seems to be very little momentum behind the Dems reclaiming control of Washington. It's almost as if we think that by electing the Dems we'll be mostly exchanging one set of problems for a (slightly) different set of other ones. |

"The Republican constituency is characterized by zealotry and blind loyalty." This is so true. It simply amazes me how right wing extremists like Ann Coulter, Michael Reagan, Fred Barnes, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingram tenaciously tout the superiority of the Republicans despite one failure and debacle after another. They bristle with indignation and revulsion at any criticism or questioning of the disastrous war in Iraq and the continual sliding of Afghanistan back into the hands of the Taliban. Yet they fiercely attack the Dems with all the flaws and glaring dissention within their own party ranks while the Dems stutter and muddle with paralysis and indecision. They have a perfect opportunity to exploit the melt down and failures of the Republicans yet they seem to be a party of reticence. Their failure to step up to the plate and take charge at an opportune time will serve as their undoing. "The Democrats are stuck in a rut, intellectualizing and sympathizing and rationalizing, but woefully lax on organizing enough to fight-fire-with-fire." This is so true. Everyone is howling the exact same thing yet they still don't get the message! Why? If they attacked the Republicans as half as much as the GOP wages their psychological warfare and party line propaganda, they could possibly pull an upset. But figure the odds........... "I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't end up being business as usual after the November elections." I think you're right. I think they may make a few gains but not enough to tip the scales. They have no one to blame but themselves. The opportunity is clearly there but they have demonstrated no will to take advantage of it. "What's interesting is even though the GOP is crapping all over the place - most noticeably upon THEMSELVES - there seems to be very little momentum behind the Dems reclaiming control of Washington." Exactly. No need to beat a dead mule. I think we are all in agreement with the lethargy of the Dems to capitalize on the irrefutable failures and duplicity of the White House and the GOP. Like Cynique said, "Expect business as usual" after the November election. It will be a scary ride, but I don't think the Dems will triumph. Not because they can't or don't have the opportunity, but because they lack the unified ferocity, commitment and will as a collective party. Done deal.........

Fred Hampton, Defense Minister for the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party lived a couple of blocks down the street from me. In 1969, he was gunned down in his bed by the Chicago "pigs", having been betrayed by a turn coat Panther working under cover for the FBI. Illinois State Representative Bobby Rush was also a prominent member of the Panthers. But he is now a preacher and a law maker and, truth be told, a slick politician who has accumulated a lot of property allegedly with funds allotted for other projects. I doubt if he'll be showing up at this reunion for fear of tarnishing his "image". |
