Hey Tonya, Believe it or not, I'm listening to Lil' Brothers "The Minstrel Show"...it's rap with old school flava. BTW, "Minstrel Show" is tongue-in-cheek/mockery of the current state of hip-hop culture. Maze's "Golden Time of Day" Joi's "Munchies for Your Love" P-Funk classic mix

Mzuri: Prince is damn near 50 years old. You still listening to 8 track tapes. Ray Charles done been out so long he has come back around and become Fresh--especially since that recent movie. How many movies has His Royal Shrimpness been in or had his movies featured in lately. |

Nolanfane, Rotary Connection was a fusion band that had a run through the late 60 - early 70's. Minnie Riperton was a part Rotary before she struck out on her own. Btw: You should ALWAYS listen to the good stuff. That other shyt'll rot your brain. Dobes, I make fun of my wife A LOT over the years about her Milli Vanilli phase. ~"...Blame on the rain...Yeah...Yeah..."~ |

Cynique--OMG! "Jazz Goes To College" by Dave Brubeck is one of my favorites. I "borrowed" the lp from my parents when I went away to college. TO celebrate my high school graduation they took me to go see him and Ella Fitzgerald in concert. It was amazing to see these legends in person. Has the cd been remastered or is it just reissued? |

Yes, Yvette, it's remastered. I always checked Dave Brbeck out when he appeared in Chicago at the various jazz clubs back in the day. His "Jazz at Oberlin" will always be my favorite. |

Ntfs, interesting - never heard of any of them. What genre is this? Afro-Cuban and jazz. I love Latin and Afro-Cuban music. Ornette and Lacy would be considered hard core improvisational players while Osby floats from experimental contemporary to outside playing. He plays alto. Blues and European avant-garde classical are other genres of music I enjoy. Please check out the Putumayo label. Awesome for world beat instrumental and vocals. LOL @ Tonya. Yes, that news story was interesting, but not surprising. It is always interesting to me how shocked Western scientists always seem to be when they discover that substances some populations have been using for generations have true medicinal purposes. However, I wouldn't advise any of you all rushing out to the 'hood to buy some. LOL! You might, tho, want to buy some stock in some pharmaceutical companies that will ikely be looking to synthesize the chemicals in pills or other (legal) treatments... Nolanfane, I have 6 yo twin daughters--or, I should say 6 going on 21. Last night at dinner one said: "I have a question for you, Mommy and Daddy, and I do not think you can answer it. Why is 'life' here?" My husband and I told her that is what you call an existential question and that she should consider majoring in philosophy in college! |

...LOL Yvette!! But seriously though. I'll have to pass on that because, for some reason, the Chronic started getting me paranoid! And I can't drink alcohol, because too much of it gives me the RAMS…. My last interaction with it, I ended up JACK'N UP a superstar known in this city for pistol whipping mofos. I had to lay low for a minute. I didn't know if he'd retaliate on a woman--he IS that crazy. And so I learned my lesson after that incident…. I haven't had a drink in years. LOL!! |

doberman23, sheek louch stepped his rap game up BIG TIME since "walk wit me". if you want to hear a good album buy "after taxes", you won't be dissapionted. also you should try to get sheek's mixtapes "YEAR OF THE WOLF" and "STILL A WOLF". those two mixtapes are great. beats, bars, everything. sheek got alot better since "walk wit me". i don't know where you live, or how easy it is for you to get mixedtapes. try "mixunit.com". they have all kinds of mixed tapes. 7 bucks a piece. J-HOOD is crazy. J-HOOD CAN REALLY SPIT. J-HOOD AND SHEEK ARE MY TWO FAVORITE MC'S. jada and styles get more recognition. but j-hood and sheek louch are very slick with their words. those sheek louch mixed tapes and his "after taxes" are WELL worth the money. j-hoods mixtapes are great. his flow and punch lines are killer. im waiting for j-hoods album "TALES FROM THE HOOD" to drop. J-HOOD IS NO JOKE. DOBERMAN23, BUY THESE ALBUMS I MENTIONED. YOU WILL BE VERY GLAD YOU DID. |
