Do you guys remember Brian Nichols? The guy who was on trial for rape and broke out during trial and killled the judge and a few other people before being caught (one a federal immigration employee)? Well, I was just watching the news this morning and there's something interesting that caught my attention: he's in trouble now for harrassing the woman he raped....by calling her on his CELL PHONE. Am I missing something? When the hell did criminals have the right to have cell phones? What other things do they have the right to possess that I don't know about? |

This is interesting. I've heard of some facilities where the inmates have access to cable TV. On our tax dollars. That's outrageous! In Astoria (Queens), NY there is a bus Q101R that takes people to the Riker's Island Correctional Facility. Five or six other buses (going to different locations) stop in the same pick-up area as the 101R. Often, three or four 101Rs bypass before even ONE regular city bus shows up. So, apparently the prisons get better bus service, too. Again, these are our tax dollars at work here. |

I'm not following you, Renata. Anybody can get a cell phone nowadays. There's nothing to monitor or stop them. It's almost like you're comparing a cell phone to a bank teller job. The REAL question is: why is he even out of jail to be able to posess a cell phone? |

He's not out of jail. He's still being held there. He broke out of jail during his first trial (for rape) and killed a few people in the courtroom including the judge. Remember, he carjacked some white woman who gave him some meth, and she's writing a book about the whole thing? They ain't hardly letting him out on bail. DEFINITE flight risk. |

Inmates have people sneak cell phones to them all the time. This is not unheard of. |

"Inmates have people sneak cell phones to them all the time. This is not unheard of." This is true. I was a correctional officer before and the security was so tight, even we, as CO's, were not allowed to bring cell phones to work. When you walked through the security metal detector, every single thing in your possession had to be exposed and every item examined carefully. NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO CELL PHONES.....PERIOD!
