I read an article that stated that black people are LESS likely to own pets than other races. I know that my mother and other family members are actually all terrified of cats and hate dogs. However, I love animals and have pets.
Do any of you have pets? |

I have a cat, Michiko. My grandmother and great-grandmother were cat people, but somehow my mother is a dog person.
I HATE dogs.
Weird thing....I can smell the air outside and know if a cat or dog (specifically one or the other) has been in the neighborhoods. They each leave a different scent that wafts over the ENTIRE neighborhood. I always get scared when I know a dog has been around. |

I don't have any pets but I have had some in the past, dogs, mostly, and I don't mind them. However I'm one of those who believes in keeping them outside--none of that cuddling up in bed and kissing bull.
I know lots of black people who are afraid of dogs. When they go walking around the park they carry sticks. I never carry sticks and never have had trouble with dogs.
I know lots who hate cats. I don't hate them but would rather not deal with them--we're too much alike. |

My cat lives outside. I would let him in if I didn't have a child living here. You know how kids are with germs and not washing their hands. |

Nope, you can always tell when a person has pets in the home without even seeing them, especially if they let that pet roam through the house. It has that particular pissy smell with fur and hair all over the damn place. Protect your resale value. Stick to damn birds or fish. |

Dog: Bichon Frise named Sterling
Snapping Turtle named Mustang
Two Gerbals named Ice and Midnight
Two Parakeets named Gomez and Morticia
A 50 gallon tank with a dozen tropical fish. My kids named them all but I only know Jonathan.
My oldest son wants a chinchilla for his b-day. My second oldest wants another dog (bulldog). My third son wants a rabbit. My youngest son wants another turtle. First he (my youngest) wanted a dolphin. When I explained to him that wasn't possible, he settled on a turtle. He turns 6 tomorrow so looks like I'll be making a trip to the pet store.
So, yeah, we're a buncha tree-hugging animal lovers in my abode. |
