MANY HERE---ABM, Tonya, Crystal,
Cynique, Chris Hayden, Sisgal,
Troy, Renata, Moonsigns---
are virtually FAMILY to me
and to each other. We really
are a kind of extended family.
So they know I'm a HAM and they
usually DO CARE to know what's
going on with me---if for no
other reason than to fill up
time during slow times in the day.
Which is why I'm posting the
picture of me that will
appear in JET MAGAZINE:
AS A RULE, as you already know--
I don't allow "Professional" shots
of Kola Boof. They have to be Polaroids.
But these were sent to JET.
God only knows what JET
is going to write about me.
For "Security Purposes", I really
need to look TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the
way I do when I'm playing with my sons---so
I'm trying out different looks.
I also was VERY SICK at just the moment
the whole world wanted to interview last
week, and I was really upset at how PUFFY,
tired and annoyed I looked on MSNBC---though
others thought I looked fine, I didn't think
I looked pretty at all.
ALso...really
exciting for me!

who has appeared on Jay Leno and

---currently the world's greatest

I give this book a 10! There isn't ENOUGH SPACE for me to write how amazing, BRILLIANT, and BLOODY GREAT this woman is. As a woman, and as an author. NEVER in me wee life have I been soo moved, or stunned as by this woman, and her truths. . By the time I got to the Osama Bin Laden chapter, I totally forgot he was even in it, because the rest of her book is even more amazing. Ol' Bin there, isn't what will sell this book. If Kola ran for President I'd vote for her. SHE"S NOT RACIST! I'm ever soo white, as white as you can bloody well get, and have lived in the Middle east ,, including India, Egypt, Iran, etc... and EVERYTHING this woman says is TRUE!! I, as well as she, are lucky to be bloody well alive. She should be put up on a pedestal, and Cheered. There should be a" Kola Boof "
day.
EVERY woman I know, and I perform all over the world soo I know many, well EVERY woman I know , I tell them about this book. I take it with me wherever I go, and this is the 1st book that I've refused to lend to anyone, because I'll NEVER get it back. Everyone would keep it. By the way Kola , I was performing in the Middle east and wasn't allowed to bring your book in. I said I'd get rid of it, meself, soo they wouldn't take it, and I put it under me "Chador." ( like a Burka) . No soldier or Pazdar ( police) is allowed to check around under a "Chador." Then I resumed reading., even between shows ,

Kola, I think everyone here cares about you, are proud of you and only want the best for you and your career....Some just don't know how to express it. We’re black folks--you know how we put up those walls (~tears~). But I'm willing to bet that they all love you.
As for your post, of course I love the hair; the pictures are beautiful; congrats on the review and being featured in Jet Magazine!! |

Kola Girl - I really don't think that you are an unattractive woman but honestly, with all honesty, those pix make you look hideous. And the lighting is horrid. It makes you look ashey. Take my advice and hire a professional. The magazines need quality pix. |

Tonya, Renata and Tall Brother thank you.
I have no idea when their mention of me
will be made or what they will say.
I was not interviewed---they simply said
they were writing about Kola Boof in an
upcoming issue and wanted a File Photo,
so I took a Polaroid.
Tall Brother.... I use "polaroids" for a
number of reasons.
First of all, 100 Years from now--it will
give a more accurate depiction to historians
of what I (and my life) looked like.
A polaroid, as opposed to a Professional Pic
gives a feeling of "actuality".
It shows blemishes, truer emotion, imperfections.
As well, when I make personal appearances
----I love for people to say I look "BETTER"
than they expected or that I look the same
in real life.
A man walked up to me a signing and shouted joyously, "Got-dayum, it's Kola Boof! And she fine for real!"
That made me really happy that he wasn't disappointed.
Another time, however, a woman walked up to me and said, "You look like a damned man!"
I don't like the pressure---because I'm very
INSECURE about my looks.
I've also seen countless women celebrities who
look NOTHING in real life like their photos.
When I met Halle Berry---I couldn't believe
how ordinary she looked (and how PALE she was without her "orange" foundation makeup).
On the other hand, when I met Vanessa Bell Calloway---I was astonished at how Film/T.V.
has NEVER captured her beauty. She's absolutely breathtaking...and was dressed down with little makeup on her way to get a hot dog (we were in the Radisson Hotel Ballroom). She looked like a normal person--but just SPECTACULARLY "natural" and beautiful.
So that's why I use Polaroids.
PEOPLE MAGAZINE did a lavish splashy photo shoot of me several years ago (they never ran the story or used the pictures)---and when I saw the photos---I was so unbelievably beautiful (I mean FIERCE and OVERLY PERFECT---just JawDroppingly UNREAL)----that it frightened me to have to go out in public and meet people looking how I really look.
So I like my photos to be flawed,
and if people here may have noticed over
the years that I have pics taken at the
oddest moments---just around the house;
the REAL ME.
100 years from now---these photos will
tell a story---using the IMAGINATION of
the "future" beholder.
It's ART.

I was only MENTIONED in TIME MAGAZINE---though it did completely sell out my book...selling 20,000 copies in just 2 days.

Kola is cool with me. She is passionate and intelligent obviously, knows how to promote herself and her book for maximum exposure. As a writer she's got mad skillz.
I don't, however, agree with all that she says...particularly about the so-called "slave mentality". I am proud of my slave ancestors who built this country. And will never hang my head that my family members were held in captivity against their will and still we survived and prospered |

I am also PROUD of the slave ancestors who built this country---they had no other choice.
You couldn't have possibly read a book that I wrote that didn't fully honor these people.
Have you taken the time to read "Flesh and the Devil"? Have you read my autobiography?
But my argument has been---if you're so damned proud and loving of your ancestors...then give birth to them again.
Stop keeping them from being born, from existing, by trying to be WHITE, by trying to continue the "slave mentality" that was needed for slavery---but is not needed in freedom.
Stop breeding your children into pale, pale bastards who NATURALLY can only identify but so much with the ancestors you claim to love and cherish.
If you don't love nappy hair and deep black skin and big rind lips----then you DO NOT love your ancestors, RobynMarie.
That's my message. Because a LOT of you AAs HATE your ancestors...and you're a great disappointment as you tear down everything they built.
Think about it:
The black community is virtually dead (you're all too successful, selfish and busy now to unite and set an example for black children--hell, a good 3rd of you don't even WANT black children)...the Black church is dying...and after 400 years as this nation's #1 minority group---you let the LATINOS waltz in and take that from you.
Worst of all---the example YOU set becomes the world standard for ALL blacks globally---because you are the only ones with access to the media.
You are the ones we look up to for guidance!!!!
If you wear blond dog hair---then women in Africa will follow that lead.
You're not doing justice to YOUR ANCESTORS at all by setting the wrong examples for ALL OF US.
That is Kola's message.
I love allllllll black people.
So don't accuse "ME" of being the one who isn't proud and respectful of your ancestors.

It kills me to hear them claim they love my ancestors. Rosa Parks damn near died on welfare. They barely loved their own.
