In White neighborhoods, I've noticed White women jogging down the street in next to nothing (a bikini top, and some low cut shorts), and no one bats an eye, the men aren't harassing her with catcalls or trying to get her number....
yet a black women dressed in the same outfit, in a Black neighborhood, would cause a damn riot.
A lot of times you can be dressed conservative, and if men see that you're by yourself walking down the street, catching the bus, they preceed to "harass" you. Just because you're a young woman.
When I catch the city bus I refrain from any kind of eye contact, because that is all that it takes before a man takes that as a cue to sit beside you and try to put the moves on you. You feel very helpless.

i think its foolish to say something like "in white neighborhoods noone bats an eye" over the attire of women. how could one person know what is happening in "white neighborhoods" regarding the attire of women. ive been in howard beach brooklyn ny. and ive seen women time after time, be cat called at and men attempting to get their numbers. for those who don't know howard beach is an mostly italian neighborhood. i think its also foolish to say a woman in a black neiborhood dressed in a bikini top and low cut shorts would cuse a "near riot". who is this "THEY", who will proceed to "harass" you because you are a young woman? is it "blackmen", or is it those "INDIVIDUALS" who choose to attempt to "sit beside you" and "try to put the moves on you"? the idea that its "blackmen" in "black neighborhoods" is another entry in the never ending attempts to paint blackmen as some kind of "predator", who's nature dictates somekind of behavior that is different from the masses of other people on earth. women walk by construction sites all the time. all kinds of men try to get their numbers or talk to them.some men behave this way, others don't. but to attempt to paint a picture where "blackmen" are "rioting" over some woman in the street, is just untrue. men try to get the phone numbers of women, its been that way since the telephone was invented, but to attempt to say its just "blackmen, in black neighborhoods" is just stupid. have you, brownbeauty ever been in a mexican neighborhood? do you think men there DON"T try to get women's numbers, or engage in "cat calls"? its something that happens amongst all men. stop trying to make the blackman the "badguy". |

Obviously you don't live on the same planet as Kola--a place where black women never fear harassment from black men because the former are literally invisible to the latter. If a black woman jogger passed a black man on planet Kola, all he'd see is a pair of shoes, shorts, a top and an ipod moving through the air. |

Young BLACK women jog around my neighborhood in attire that are similar to what you describe everyday without being harrassed.
Conversely, I wager if the White women you describe were to jog around in bikini tops in certain kinds of White neighborhoods, they'd receive treatment quite similar to what you attribute to young Black men.
I wonder whether what you describe is less an issue of race than it is of CLASS. |

This post is nonsense. In New York City, for instance, the rude lewd comments that construction workers make to white women going for lunch are not only legendary but part of the program.
Why is it some black people think only black people do bad things? They're sick, aren't they?

You're definitely on point about how WHITE construction guys can carry on. I just recently read an article in one of Chicago's main newpapers of WHITE women complaining about construction guys gawking & whistling at them dead-smack in the center of downtown Chicago, the city's most hoity-toity area. |

If said jogger was jogging in a Mexican or Salvadoran neighborhood, she'd be toast--some of the roughnecks would try and assault her if she stayed too long. |

from what ive seen black men and hispanic men simply tend to be more foreward in their approach when it comes to women. This is not ALWAYS a bad thing because you dont have to guess at rather or not the guy likes you, however it DOES get out of hand sometimes and the men can go too far. I've seen it go way farther than simple whistling at a woman. It often goes in the direction of folowing the woman.
im sure there are white construction workers who approach women in either a straight foreward or lude manner or hola at her from the other side of the street...but its simply somehting ive seen more often from blacks and hispanics.
however as ABM said, it may be more of a class issue than a race thing because most of the men who ive known to do this tend to "look" like they're either thugs or from the ghetto.

Lil_ze, when I read Brownbeauty123's post was thing the SAME THING. Obviously homegirl never been to the BK (Brooklyn).
Brownbeauty123, it is simply a class thing as ABM mentioned period.
