i know that on this forum we disagree, fight, name call and other nasty things. this post is not about the issues we so often discuss on this board.
we only can live in the present. but has anybody lately thought about their "high school" days? i picked up my high school year book (i graduated in 1993), the other night, and its just strange looking at the people you used to spend everday with. people who you did everything with, went every where with, and now you don't even know these people. reflecting on life is just strange. i just feel very odd, when i look at my high school year book. yeah, lives change, and people change. but when i see these photos of the people i spent everyday with for more than 5 or 6 years with (since jr. high school), i cant help but get a bit "nostalgic" (forgive me if i spelled it wrong). some of the people i knew from this time in my life have died, some have gone on to "greatness", and others have just faded away (ive lost contact with them, and they have lost contact with me). its very "surreal" to look back on these days of youth. i don't know if there is a real point to this post, other than to say that i personally miss those times. i don't think we realize, or appreciate just how "free" we were, or what good times we are having, until they are gone. i am much happier with my existance now, than i was then. but, i have to admit that my "high school" days, were some very good times. anyone else look back on their "glory days" or "high school" times, and get a "warm" feeling about the people they knew or the times they had? i know i do.

You graudated in 1993, lil-ze? Wow! An eternity ago. I graduated from high school in 1951 and in 2001 I attended my 50-year class reunion. There we all were, milling around, checking the name tags that displayed our senior yearbook pictures, and then laughing and embracing. Our original class size was over 700 but a little over 400 attended the reunion. There were about 25 blacks in the class but only about 10 of showed up for this gathering. Was it fun? It was amusing. A bunch of fat, balding, grey-haired, white folks, sayin things like, "Yes, I remember you. You were the one whose test paper I used to copy from in French class. (I took Latin, not French. Latin?!) And with the alcohol flowing, as the evening wore on, all the old geezers began to appreciate how much better their black female classmates had aged in comparison to their white ones. LOL. And, yes, I do look back on those times and cherish the memory of my black friends and the carefree life we enjoyed living in a little village west of Chicago, idling on the threshold of the civil rights movement which was about to erupt and change our lives forever... Wellllll, lil-ze, that's what you get for starting this post! Now, we can all sit back and yawn while chrishayden puts his predictable spin on my reminiscing.zzzzzzzz

I love your reminiscing, Cynique. I wish you'd write it formally. In fact, I have a weakness for oral storytelling of people's lives.

lil_ze, if you find such memories bittersweet after this amount of time, you're in for even more of these feelings in the future. But as long as you keep that attitude that those times were great, but these days are even better--you'll be able to engage in your memories in a healthy way: You true "glory day" should always be "today."

Anyway, your post reminded me of how much fun I had a few weeks ago when I dragged out our high school yearbooks for my kids--For example, my daughters had never seen their daddy with hair and got a big kick out of that! They also got to see me through all of my own hair style and fashion phases...

Nostalgia, indeed!

Naw! He won't do that. I hope he has more respect being that you were an adult and venturing out in the world before he probably was born. Nice post though. I liked what you wrote.

I left school in July 2004 when I was 18. I don't miss it that much as it was an all girls' borading school. I much prefer how things are now because I have more of a life et cetera.

I feel like a damn grandma. Old. I'm having a near quarter life crisis, I can't deal with being this age.

^^^LMAO, you shouldn't at all. It is what we young 'uns do, we worry about getting older and having to be more responible but at the same realising your NOT actually old at 20 or 22.

I felt old on my thirteenth birthday believe it or not. I now realise it is just getting scared of having to be responsible and grown up et cetera

Wow at 13! I wanted to be older at 13...

I know exactly how you feel. My parents expect me to know how to do everything, then turn around a treat me like I'm 16 again all at the same time. It's a very confusing point in my life.

I might just shave off a year and say I'm 21. It just sounds a lot better than 22, which is closer to 25, and then there's 30...ugh
