A good majority of "black" people are niggers...so they don't know what a black person should look like.
For instance, if I straighten and curl my hair, flowing around my face---a whole lot of people who claim I'm ugly---will suddenly say how pretty I am, because I now remind them of THE LOOK.
If I put on braids or an afro--they suddenly can't see my facial features, my smile or my smooth complexion. Only that I have a "Mannish" look, because my hair is African.
Lauryn looks gorgeous. She's an extraordinarily beautiful woman.
Because of women who look like her---the FINEST black men come into the world.

The forums that I lurk at, were talking about how "awful" she looks as if she suffered from a terrible trainwreck that left her face disfigured. Eventually, they dogged her out so much that I clicked on the link and found out how much they exaggerated her current appearance. The biggest complain was her "afro".

There's nothing wrong with her hair.
My hair is like hers, just with more ringlets. Sometimes after a few days in the humidity, it frizzes out and looks EXACTLY like what you see in the pictures...I just wish mine was that full!
Some people love my hair, especially when it's freshly washed. Others hate my hair. In Virginia, I stick out like a sore thumb. When I travel to big cities, I blend in. |

I guess if you're any sort of serious artist, you have to sort of create an alternate reality for yourself whereby you are, to a degree, oblivous to the inanity of what's transpiring about you.
Especially if you're a writer, where what you do is so internal, if not wholly LONESOME.
I don't really know what I'm talking about. I guess I'm just asserting what I guess I'd be doing if I principally earn my living and life as an artist.

ABM, I will go one further and put it to you like this:
The greatest, most annihilating heartbreak for a "SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS" artist such as Lauryn Hill, Sinead O'Connor, Spike Lee, Kola Boof.....is that chilling moment when you discover that the people you're fighting for...don't even exist.
It nearly destroys you at first.
BUT...then you realize that you have to press on so that someday...they WILL EXIST.
Malcolm X is an example of someone who literally DIED--so that I could find his work and BEGIN to exist. He dreamt that a woman like me would come into being....but I am Damaged, slightly OFF (otherwise I wouldn't have had the courage to be Kola).....SO NOW, my work will produce a better, more stable and effective version of me later on down the line (my sons?)--thereby bringing about what Malcolm dreamed would someday exist.
I hate my career and my work. I really do.
But I have to do it.
I get that same vibe from Lauryn.
OUR PEOPLE are no longer out there. They've been destroyed.

Hey. Everyone's entitled to his/her opinion.
I don't know about Lauryn having a breakdown or about "demons" and shyt (though I know enuff know that such is fairly COMMON thing amongst famous performers).
And you can try to hate on Lauryn looks all you want to. But by any standard of measurement, Lauryn Hill is a very LOVELY and CHARISMATIC young woman (I remember noticing THAT about her as far back as when she was co-starred in Whoopi Goldberg's Sister Act 2). Probably the ONLY reason why she's not a bigger media star is she's struggled with what being such entails. |

Malcolm X was simply a person who aquired and DEVELOPED the thinking of an authentic black person.
Non-slave thought, non-conformist to his master's system, non-bitter but fiercely demanding to be honored, completely AWARE of what had happened to his people and that ...HE...must not support it, even if his people did.
Completely willing to be despised and hated, even by his own people---as long he could tell them the truth the best way he knew how.
Though his faith was "ISLAM"---he wished for the total liberation and humanity of The Black Man.
That he should exist in his own god-given skin, in his own kingdom (Africa) and be respected and be at peace with his fellow man.
That understanding and dream is mine as well.
That we should return to our authentic selves--and that we will never truly prosper---until we do.

Let me tell you something brown beauty, if brothers weren’t feeling my natural beauty (which many are) I wouldn’t give a damn anyway. Because there isn’t a soul in the world that can hold a candle to me and my sweet nappy headed self. Plus I’m the type of woman that gets off on me. I take an hour long shower just to spend half of it seizing the color contrast of the thick white lather and my soft brown skin. Every now and then I gaze across the room to catch a glance of the steam, the foam, my chocolate--mmmm--my out of control bush woman hair! It is times like these when my sexually conservative self becomes a pure avant-gardist and sensualist. And to be honest with you, I’ve yet to meet a brother or another that can compete with my own image. So even if they weren't feeling it, please, to hell with what they got to say!
As for Lauryn, her clothes are not my style…AT ALL. I definitely LOOOOOVE the hair though!!!! Go Lauryn!! |

That picture of Lauryn is amazing! She's a true, natural beauty --and locs are gorgeous on her! I think sometimes when one is on a journey of self-discovery (which she has been), they have this need to prove to everyone else they aren't shallow by not looking the best they can --they have to prove they are more than their looks. I think this is what has happened to her, but I hope she returns to the look above, sooner than later! |

It's a standard practice in the entertainment industry to airbrush photos, nobody goes without having it done.
Even Halle Berry is airbrushed to the point of not even looking human. |

i love sade'... she has enhanced the mileage on my matresses over the time. her voice is so smooth and she is just str8 up sexy. i like lauren too as long as she's got hair. i don't like the bald head shiznit ..if your going through chemo and your a girl that's understandable or if your old and losing it thats acceptable too, but me and my girl both can't be sporting a jordan that is a definite no-go. (and yes there are some exceptions to my rule but lauren and india arie are definitely not that exception)

and it looks very near the quality
of Lauryn's last picture, so
I doubt she was all that airbrushed.
She's like 21 in that photo. I
doubt it's airbrushing giving her
that gloss.
Here's more gorgeous shots of a

THIS WOMAN IS FOINE...and
it's a testament to our mental
conditioning...that people can't
look at her features and see how
positively BREATHTAKING she is.

so in other words if someone doesn't think lauren hill is "breathtaking" its a result of some type of "mental conditioning"? lauren hill is cute, but i don't think she's spectacular looking or breathtaking. i think its a bit narrow to try to portray every dark skin woman as some kind of amazing beauty, just because they are dark skinned. vivian green is a spectacular beauty. miss universe from a few years ago who was from trinidad was a spectacular beauty. lauren hill is pretty, but far from a "breathtaking beauty".

Lil_ze: why do you find it so hard to believe that people say Lauyrn Hill is attarctive simply because she is? You find it easier to believe that people can think Ciara (who looks rather underwhelming) is a pretty woman, but to others so is Lauryn Hill.
No one mentioned her dark skin(but you), many have remarked that it is her features that make her attractive. Unfortunately, I have found more white and mixed raced men who say this type of look is attractive as opposed to black ones.
It is alwyas the darkest and most 'out of africa' looking man who hates these types of women for some reason. |

i don't find it hard to believe people think lauern hill is attractive. lauern hill is attractive. i just don't think shes some kind of amazing beauty. i personally think ciara IS better looking than lauren hill. the reason i mentioned skin color is because some of the posts on this board love to put up pics of a certain type of looking black woman and then talk about how beautiful she is. many times i feel this is done ONLY because the woman is dark skin. light skin females are constantly spoken of in a negative light on this board. i don't know what you mean by "the most out of africa" looking man who "hates" a certain kind of looking female. i just don't get what you mean. |

^^^I mean that sometimes it can be the most nubian or african looking guy who expresses his dislike of the most nubian or african looking girl. Like he hates himself or something.
I see your point that it is not right to dismiss someone's beauty because they are light skinned but it can be down to resentment. Black females in the media are usually lighter complexioned which can annoy the darker skinned, and equally attractive, black woman.
No excuse for the 'hate' that may go against the lighter skin females sometimes. But it helps understand it. |

Lauryn Hill is amazingly beautiful and talented.
But the photos that Kola posted above are airbrushed. Just to what degree? Probably moderately but they are most definitely airbrushed. Sometimes these photos are airbrushed to the point these people wouldn't recognize themselves if you put the finished product in front of them. LOL
But who cares, airbrushed, crazy, couldn't handle fame she is still one of the most beautiful women I have ever laid eyes on. |
