Name one person in showbiz who is not a joke. They are all fakes. It is show bizness. Tough guys play nice guys, wimps play tough guys, gays play straights, men play women, drunks play saints and so on and so on and so on.

I agree Serenasailor. I can't walk around claiming I'm white without err-body, especially white people, thinking I'ma fool. hey, angry black woman, i don't "come" from any africans. i come from my forefathers. you need to study a bit before attempting to make a point. tonya didn't refer to black men like me as historical failures, she referred to ALL black men as historical failures.
the black women i love look like the slave master? what does that mean? i didn't "praise" the beauty of white women, i commented that there are some attractive white females out there (and there are). if you want to eat with a bunch of filthy nigerians, more power to you. but the truth is the dark races in africa, along with the arabs, sold our people to the white man as slaves. i don't know what the hell the nigerian has to be proud of, they are UGLY as hell. if you want to "eat" with people who hate you, more power to you.
im so happy that our people come in all shades. it makes life interesting. not like a bunch of ugly nigerians who all look and smell (awful) alike.

Another thing, Tonya.....I TOTALLY get your posts even more now. I usually get them, but don't understand really where you're coming from.
But, SERIOUSLY, the ONLY other place I think I could witness so much "white/light is right, African is backwards" talk is at a Klan rally.

Alicia's talent is blown out of proportion. Most of her work is largely contributed to biting off of the old school legends. Nothing is original, and the media gives her ALL the credit for it. |

What of it? Was Anthony Quinn and Indian or an Arab or a Greek or any of the other things he played? The last I heard there are plenty of white people born in Jamaica and who have Jamaican citizenship. The first guy to record Bob Marley, Leslie Kong, was an ethnic Chinese.
So what you have somebody pretending to be Jamiacan in a music video? She was not trying to vote in Jamaica or run for President.

I haven't seen the video or heard its related song. And I certainly NOT amongst Keys biggest fans. But I agree that I don't see much of a problem with her singing/performing West Indian musical stylings. Unless, of course, she suddenly started to try to bill and market herself as somekinda 'authentic' reggae artist of something (which I really do NOT expect Keys to ever try to do). |

I recently saw Alicia on Oprah performing with Bono. She sounded great, was well-spoken and came across as a very positive young woman.
I understand the larger point that Tonya and Renata make however, I wasn’t aware that she identified herself (ethnically) as anything other than the obviously mixed woman that she is.
Anyway, slightly off topic but readings posts by Tonya and Renata and others of like mind reminds me of the now defunct (?) Interracial Voice website, only on that site people of mixed parentage were stating the same point of view as Tonya and others. And there was vehement opposition from Black posters who refused to acknowledge any distinction between Black people and mixed people. Interestingly, the vast majority of people claiming to be White, Asian, or African didn’t have an issue with mixed people choosing their own identity.
