The wives of hip hop celebrities have all the trappings of their husband’s successes: huge diamond rings, impressive homes, and luxury cars. But there are some things these women want that aren’t just for sale, and their real lives rarely match the fantasies of the girls who dream about marrying a wealthy rapper. Often alone while their husbands work far from home, these women raise children, and manage households. Fighting insecurity, they try to keep the fires burning in the bedroom, though it’s well known that rappers, married or not, cavort with admiring honeys. But most of these women were with their men before the money, videos, and the fame. And they insist they’ll be there long after. Not without cost, though.
You can’t talk to a rapper’s wife without bringing up Karrine ‘Superhead’ Steffans, whose best-selling ‘Confessions of a Video Vixen' boasted of her sexual exploits with several high profile MC’s, some of whom are married with children. Aisha Atkins, 29, whose husband, Ja Rule, 30, was identified in the book, is not buying the story about the hotel room-trashing sex marathon Superhead claims she had with him. “I don’t believe what she said,” Aisha says. “I love my husband. And it’s going to take more than a broke-down b!tch to make me leave him. So there you go.” Aisha is generally not much of a talker--until you come at her with rumors about Ja Rule. Together since high school and married since 2001, she is the mother of his 3 children. She’s been holding her man down since day one. While he sold drugs and tried to get on in the rap game, Aisha worked eight-hour double shifts for $10.50 an hour at a home for the mentally ill. When she heard the rumors about her husband and Steffans, she confronted him immediately. Her husband denied any relationship, and Aisha is standing by her man. “I was 14 when I fell in love with Jeff,” says Aisha. “I lost my virginity to him. So I don’t care what other people say. This is my household, and this is my marriage.”
“I don’t think he’s out there being faithful,” Tashera says. “I hope he is. But I wouldn’t put it past him.”--TASHERA SIMMONS
According to Vibe magazine, Tashera Simmons, 34, first ran into DMX when she was 10 years old and he was 11. Raised in Yonkers, N.Y., in a strict Muslim household, she was not allowed outside except to go to school. On a rare, unsupervised trip to the store one day, she says she watched as Earl Simmons, her future husband, robbed an old woman. “I knew he was bad,” says Tashera. “But I’d never had any excitement in my life, so he was like my hero. I used to think about him all the time after that day.” Eight years later a mutual friend introduced her to Simmons at a party, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Asked about DMX’s well-chronicled drug issues, Tashera chooses her words carefully. “It’s not like they say in the papers,” she professes. “He has more of a drinking problem than drugs.” In addition to his well publicized traffic violations, he’s had several run-ins with the law, including a case in 2004 when he reportedly impersonated a federal agent in a failed car-theft attempt at JFK airport. “He just has a road rage problem,” she insists. (Tashera’s apparently got a lead foot too: Earlier this year she was charged with speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle, and not using child restraints on her four kids in upstate New York.)
As for their love life, she frankly admits that she believes her husband has cheated on her. “I don’t think he’s out there being faithful,” Tashera says. “I hope he is. But I wouldn’t put it past him.” In 2004 a woman named Monique Wayne claimed that DMX fathered her son after she met the rapper in a nightclub, reports say. A paternity test and court order later, he began paying $5,000 a month in child support. “Truthfully, I wouldn’t let that break our family up,” Tashera says. She crosses her fingers. “We’re tight. All I know is that whatever he does, at the end of the day it’s all about me.”
Connecting over having similarly dysfunctional families, Tashera and DMX cemented their me-and-you-against-the-world bond while they were still teenagers. She says that’s one reason they’ve lasted through so much. “It’s our background that keeps me strong,” she says. “If I’d just gotten in the relationship and I heard about babies and Superhead, I wouldn’t be here.” Tashera was being chauffeured to a hair salon when she first heard about [Karrine] Steffans book ‘Confessions of a Video Vixen’. The driver mentioned the name Superhead several times and hinted that Tashera should know who the woman was. “I didn’t know who she was talking about,” she says. The chauffeur handed over the book and turned to the page in which Steffans described a sexual relationship with DMX. Outraged, Tashera says she clocked the driver in the head with the book. After confronting her husband, he told her he didn’t remember Steffans. “I was more mad about the way I found out than anything else,” says Tashera. “Truthfully, it doesn’t matter. Everything in that book she could have got from watching MTV’s Diary. She said he growled when they were having sex. He ain’t never growled with me. Maybe he had a one-night stand with her and she took it somewhere else.”

Bill Maher really is a funny guy. I've been following his shows for years. He got ran off the air with "Politically Incorrect" for just that reason. I loved that show. His current project, "Real Time", which shows on HBO, is in the same mold. It is a very entertaining show for anyone who has serious questions about the social and political climate of this country. The only problem (for me) is the show runs in very short seasons.
I don't know anything about the big dick thing but I'll take your word Kola. If it is true, I'm sure he doesn't have any problems getting women, black, white, Latina, et al, to service it. That's one of the major perks of having a massive penis. Just ask Blackzilla.
Anyway, his satire and political cynicism and spoofing works for me.

Bill Maher gets a pass because he’s wealthy/famous. But why does average and below average looking white men automatically assume that they have a chance with black women who are apparently out of their league? Awhile back this guy approached me while I was at the mall. He was a dirty looking white dude who, if he were black, I’m almost certain he would not have had the courage to say anything more than "hi" to me; but this guy actually tried to talk to me and was confident in doing so. I was offended. Not entirely because he looked a bum--but because I felt like he believed that I’d respond simply because I am black and he was white. Maybe I overreacted but I ended up giving him the dirtiest look that I ever gave a person in my life--I was livid. Has this ever happened to any of y’all? Lewis has admitted to helping broker a drug deal four years ago. He’ll pay the price by being suspended from two NFL games, and he’ll spend several months in the big house.
Sorry, but this won’t be a commentary about what bad boys Jamal and the others have been. That’s too easy. No, this isn’t about how those athletes have all let our young people down. I think that commentary’s been done. This instead is about how gullible many of us can be when it comes to elevating athletes to underserved social pedestals based upon nothing more than their athletic prowess.
The ability to run up and down a football field and score touchdowns doesn’t exempt you from stupidity. Making lots of money doesn’t exclude anyone from dumb decision making.
Nonetheless, many us profess profound disbelief whenever a prominent athlete does something stupid.
Not me. I’m not surprised at all. I’m just surprised that anyone is surprised.
Sports fans have to shoulder part of the blame, but we media folks are the main culprits. We can’t wait to salivate and wax philosophical over the unending virtues of the “Superstar of the Moment.” We can’t wait to tell you about the next athlete who is the fastest, the strongest, the greatest this and the greatest that…. And heaven help them if their not perfect people, because we can’t wait to tell you about their imperfections either.
Be careful around us sports media folk. You might have noticed there are times when we tend toward exaggeration.
We specialize in hyperbole.
Sometimes I believe that exposure to the sports media should come with a warning label. Maybe something like this.
Warning!!! The next time one of us in the sports media inundates you with how wonderful, adorable, caring, giving, understanding, gracious, kind, all knowing, all seeing, all-mighty and all-powerful the next “Superstar of the Moment” is, please forgive us. We get a little carried away with our praise sometimes. Outside of Jesus and Mother Teresa very few folks are actually that good, regardless of how sweet their jump shot may be.
Warning!!! The next time one of us in the media inundates you with how greedy, selfish, lazy, spoiled, ignorant, conceited, mean, nasty, wicked, cruel, spiteful, appalling, horrific, and evil the next “Superstar of the Moment” is, please forgive us. It should be no surprise that once in a while a great athlete screws up. We all screw up. Doctors, Lawyers, Indian Chiefs, Butcher, Bakers, Candlestick Makers & even Sports Columnists’ screw up. When a high profile athlete screws up his foibles are front-page news. However, when Leon the delivery boy for Fed-Ex screws up, nobody cares.
And so it is with Jamal Lewis. Four years ago, as a 21 year old he did something extremely dumb, destructive and illegal. I believe he has to step up and deal with the consequences of his actions. Lewis is clearly not a Choirboy, but I don’t believe he’s Public Enemy Number One either. He joins multitudes of other 21 year olds who have engaged in ill-advised or illegal behavior.
I don’t think we have to worry about what we are going to tell our children when Jamal or any other athlete does something illegal, immoral or just stupid. I think it’s simple. We tell our children that choices come with consequences. If you make poor choices, you may have to reap some tough consequences.
Jamal Lewis made a horrible decision, and now he has to deal with the consequences.
Let me go way out on a limb and predict that Jamal Lewis will not be the last athlete to run afoul of the law. Athletes are like the rest of us, only richer. They screw up sometimes. It’s happened before, and it will happen again, and again, and again.

Race has nothing to do with it! It’s not necessarily unusual for a man to approach a woman regardless of her race. I see this kind of thing quite often. In fact, I’ve personally done it. And since when did average or below average looking men not approach women they were interested in? Him being white and you being black means nothing –if he was interested in meeting you. You may object to non-black men approaching you and that’s your discretion. I don’t have a problem with that. It’s personal preference. I mean, PLEASE, if you're going to be OLD at least be clean, sober, and well-dressed. Or if you're drunk, dirty, and obnoxious, at least be young enough that your behavior can be blamed on your age. I had just had a cute haircut and was dressed for an interview, so I KNOW I looked good.

I told my husband what was happening. He made me quit. He wants me to stay at home now. I'm considering it. I've been a stay at home wife for over three years so far, it's not that bad. Nothing happened with the guy. I didn't even get to hold his hand. I kind of tried to keep my distance from him.
He told me where he lives and gave me both of his work numbers, and his cell and home numbers, but I don't think I'll be contacting him.....anytime soon at least. I don't know. |

Not really. I've had the chance, but chose not to. I just really like to hear his voice and see his face. But chances are, I won't contact him. I haven't seen him in over a week, and I still haven't contacted him. I haven't even read his emails.
Truthfully, I told my husband to ENSURE I don't do anything. I've had crushes before, I'll get over it.
I'm actually kind of relieved that I don't have to see him anymore. |

this is some funny stuff here. oh well let me add my two cents for all its worth. those photos are of the same person. look beyond the main character. The dude in the red polka dotted tie has the same hair line as the one photo of his face half hidden. |

If these wives accept the fact that these men cheat, then oh well, that's on them. Who says that these wives aren't cheating. These wives don't care, because if they did they would have been gone. Tell me, if these men were broke, do you really think that these wives would be there, because I don't think so! Poeple keep it real. It's all about the money. I hate to say it like that but it's true, so I don't feel sorry for them one bit. |

Ok. Point well made. I agree with you 100% I'm a hygiene and cleanliness fanatic so I understand your disgust at someone approaching you who is unclean. There is no excuse for it unless the individual is suffering from an untreated mental disorder.

you have wives that say with broke ass cheating husbands who are LIVING off of them and not making a dam thing...so its not alkways about money alot of times these women are deluded and stay with the men because they love them. |
