I used to live in Miami and I used to notice that the Black ppl in Florida were darker than most Black Americans. Now I know that alot of them are islanders like Haitians, Bohamians, and Jamaicans. But even the American Black seem to be darker than any other ones in the country. What is the reason for that? Is it the wheather? Is it because many of them are islanders? I heard that many of them were mixed with Seminole Indian. Is that true? |

"What is the reason for that? Is it the wheather? Is it because many of them are islanders? I heard that many of them were mixed with Seminole Indian. Is that true?" Why is important? Why are you concerned with their skin color? Isn't being a black person regardless of their hue good enough? And how does this information (why they are dark) helpful to you? Just curious....

^Agree. SS, why does it matter to you so much of dealing with skin tone instead of noticing them being Black? You seem to treat the black people there as foreign species of people. Like Ntfs said, Why does this even matter to you? If the Floridians were lighter in skin tone, would you ask this question? |

Serena, There were more "ALL BLACK TOWNS" started in Florida and Oklahoma than in the rest of the country. Blacks in Florida, as Zora Neale Hurston wrote, were (BY RATIO) a lot more "proud, black-identified", and in many ways, less "slave acculturated" than say....blacks in Louisiana, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Like many of the GULLAH, GEECHEE type Africanist Blacks off the South Carolina coast---but with much higher populations---Florida blacks were extremely dark skinned and "valued" it as a connection to Africa and their roots. Though blacks in Mississippi and Alabama have even higher concentrations of "blue blacks"---they are overwhelming "slave acculturated" in comparison to the Floridians and could be argued saw themselves as "inferior" to Creole peoples.

nfts encryption and sabiana, the points you brought up and the rhetorical questions you raised are BRILLIANT! what the hell difference does it make if some of our people are lighter skinned or darker skinned? it has ZERO relevance. its just more of the same "divide and conquer" foolishness. great points, nfts encryption and sabiana. im so tired of listening to small minds whine about, and raise non-signifigant questions about skin color. |
