When the UN Security Council was going to adopt a resolution to send more peacekeepers to Rwanda to halt it, Bill Clinton instructed Madeline Allbright to tell them she would veto any such move. And thus none were sent. Seems the First Black President was being his old yellow bellied self. |

He was married to a white woman, too which would make your trifecta--although I hear he likes to fool around and he likes black women, too. |

I think the America's failure to respond to the Rwandan massacre was partly due to our failure the prior year in Somalia (as famously characterized in the movie "Black Hawk Down"). |

"I think the America's failure to respond to the Rwandan massacre was partly due to our failure the prior year in Somalia (as famously characterized in the movie "Black Hawk Down")." Interesting point. Could be. The unexpected defeat and decision to withdraw from Somalia definitely had a negative impact of the psyche of the State Department and White House. This lead to back tracking of the military. I'm sure there was some reticence to respond to the Rwanda and Burundi genocide orgy because of Somalia. Besides, to be honest, I don't think the world had the urgency or desire to make a serious es effort to stop black Africans from savagely murdering other black Africans. Just like the lethargic and disgraceful global (and black African) response to the horrific conditions and enslavement of the black Africans in Sudan by Arabs.

Ntfs, Not only did America get its nutes handed to'em in Somalia, we SAW the results of it. We saw the charred dead bodies of (WHITE) American soldiers gleefully dragged around the streets of Mogadishu by BLACK Africans. That HAD to have affected the Clinton Administration's view about whether and how we should intervene in Rwanda. I agree there's NO WAY America would commit the American military to save Africans to the degree such has invested in Iraq or even Afghanastan. But the sad part it probably would have ONLY required a few hundred marines to save 100,000's of Rwandans. Because, hell, MOST of the killing that occurred in Rwanda was reaped via a machette (For Christ Sake!!!). |

The other members could have put up the troops and the U.S. just the transport and backup--like they are doing in Haiti and the Congo. No apparently he was just afraid that his enemies would scream about him helping black folks. He is a piece of work. |

I’ve just read An Ordinary Man An Autobiography by Paul Rusesabagina. He is the real man behind the Hotel Rwanda story and he says just what you all are saying. Clinton and the U.S. did not get involved in Rwanda because of what happened in Somalia and just a few hundred military, anybody’s military, would have been able to stop the massacre before it started. He says his numerous calls to the U.S. and the UN for help went unanswered and the UN personnel that were there were ordered out with the quickness. I recommend this small book for a glimpse of recent African history told by an African with an even smaller glimpse of earlier regional history and the European divide and conquer method that worked so well, as viewed by an African. Hey, a lot of Rwandan’s fled to France after the massacre – does this account for the dark color of their national soccer team? Looked like the NBA!

Is this supposed to be something new??? It was all shown in the movie "Hotel Rwanda," years ago. The movie didn't give details about what went down, but it gave enough for the viewers to figure this out; plus it was said/written all over the news, even then, that Clinton didn't want to get involved because of Somalia. This was never a secret (???). |

Tonya et al: Why don't you read the damn post? The post was not that he didn't want to do anything but that he ACTIVELY blocked the UN Security council from doing anything. This you DIDN'T know, did you? You all still love that piece of crap, don't you? You are like the typical battered wives, beaten and cheated on and loving every minute cuz he pats you on the head. |
