Awwwwww.....comon'..that's not true. I live in SoCal too and I see brothers with black women every day. I don't know why black women continue to say this. I have talked to three black women in the past 48 hours and they all have attempted to advance this myth also (IMO). It’s depressing hearing them whine and complain about black men with non-black women. But as a black man, I don’t see this grossly overstated belief that the majority of black men date non-black women. I’m sorry –but I just don’t see it! But unfortunately, there is little I can do to convince black women otherwise.
There was a young sista gurl that once lived next door to me (she now lives down the street) who was convinced that black men did not like black women (yes -I know it sounds absurd but it is true). She was young, nice looking, wide hips, big booty and massive boobs (black man first round draft choice characteristics). However, she tells me that black men will not date her…..Period! She states that she gets plenty of date offers from white guys and Latinos, but brothers will not date her. She has a very dark complexion and I have often wondered if she felt that her skin color was an issue since she is convinced that 9 out of 10 black men date non-black women. I've never mentioned the subject to her for obvious reasons. But one day, I just may have to since a number of black women believe their skin color can often be the determining factor whether they get asked out on a date or spend the weekend watching "Sex In The City" marathons with a cup of hot cocoa.
She and I have gone around and around about this but she sticks to her story. I have told her that according to her personal non-scientific assessment, that means 1 out of 10 black men date black women! That makes no sense. But it doesn’t matter. She said she understood the math and still sticks to her belief. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can say to change her mind. It's very sad. She is adamant that black men in SoCal are into any and everything but black women -especially if they have long straight hair with blonde being at the top of the list (her words -not mine).
I really don’t understand why she sticks to a statistic that simply does not exist. I think the disappointment and bitterness of not having a black man is driving this spurious perception and illusion that the "majority" of black men date non-black women. It's simply not true.
I really don’t agree with this assessment (majority of black men dating non-black women) although I will concede that interracial dating is very common here. And for the record, I see plenty of white guys with black women and even more Latino guys with black women. No double standards with me. I personally could care less. Uh oh! Look out! The bricks are flying now!!!.

Honestly, I really don't know. She is a very out going and fun person. And as I stated, the girl is "very thick" like the brothers like 'em. But she has has put on some weight....actually a lot. In fact, I went over her place a month ago to do some computer work and the subject of weight came up. And she asked me did I think she was big (she told me an Air Force recruiter told her she had to lose about 60 lbs in order to pass the weight/height standards). I just tapped danced around the question (for obvious reasons) and then she firmly asked me point blank, "Do you think that I'm big? Do you think I'm fat?" I muttered something and she said; "Well, I don't think that I'm big or fat! I think I'm just average." I almost passed out from disbelief! I could not believe those words came out of her mouth. She told she thought she was "average" for a woman. Uhhhhhh.....well...that's not true. Maybe average when compared to those black women we saw on television and in photos during the Katrina disaster. But not by SoCal standards. Trust me!
But no, I really don't know why brothers don't date her. I know the readers of this board are obsessed with skin color and I have wanted to ask her if that could be a possible issue. But how to you broach such a subject? ”Uhhhhh..do you think you don’t get dates because you’re too dark?” But I don't believe skin color is the core issue for her not getting dates because I see black men with all shades (light-brown-dark brown) of black women. So again, I really don't know.

"available" is the key word here.
I don't believe 50% of the group you mentioned are married to nonblack women. It is a myth here in Cali and elsewhere. In fact, I think (don't have stats, just personal observation) the less educated a black man is, the more likely he is to be with a nonblack woman. A brother told me, lots of black men are afraid of educated black women. But men like Randle (from The Apprentice, with numerous degrees, just one example) have black wives.
How many educated white women aspire to be married to nonwhite men?

We have not discussed being in a relationship---we just are.
It's like he was pursuing me over a few days, and I gave in and went to Radio Shack with him so he could get a new headset for his workout CD----and BAM---we've been together every since that day.
We never discuss what we are to each other.
He knows that I wish he was "black" and that I'm not happy to be in an interracial pairing--we discuss it all the time---and though he tries to envoke some "African" ancestry via his Cuban heritage---I don't consider having a drop or two to be black in the least. So this puts a damper on things.
He's a white man to me. But he's fine as hell, likes me cooking and my vintage Dionne Warwick 60's Cds, fucks me REAL good and it's better than being alone.
HE LIVES in metroplitan Los Angeles (I do not)---so I'm sure that he has some "honies", but I don't ask him any questions and I honestly don't care.
He is more possessive--calling me at certain hours to make sure of where I am and what I am doing and that I am alone.
But I was always alone anyway. So it doesn't bother me.
Thomas has a new young girlfriend. A pretty Jamican girl. So I got tired of being alone.
Eneddio has a friend, Gustav, and it turns out that he is married to a black woman.
One thing that I did not realize...is that there's a HUGE phenomena out here of "Latino Men" having illicit/secret sex with Black girls and women.
It's very disturbing in many ways--because I am seeing black girls young as 15, 16--meeting Mexican men (grown men) and being CONNED into thinking they have a chance with these men.
The Black "boys" out here are all out RACIST against black females---it would shock easterners like ABM and yourself---so these LATINO men out here are like Chicken Hawks.
They're fucking and exploiting lonely black women (and girls) left and right.
And it's to the point where there's a palpable "tension" in the air amongst latino men and black females----highly sexual---and unmistakable.
Here is the Population Breakdown in L.A. County:
Latino--60%
White--31%
Black--6%
Pacific Islander--2%
OTHER-1%
So the LATINO MAN is "KING" in the Southern California Social world.
Street signs and government documents here are IN SPANISH.
I personally DETEST Black American men in California. They're the very worst "niggerstock" you could imagine.

The immigration policies and enforcement (or lack there of) over the last 20 years have made what has happen in LA a forgone conclusion.
I agree there have been ubiquitous efforts to confuse African Americans about what they should do and be. But I also think that ALL of us African Americans have helped to enable that confusion. And that INCLUDES Black women.

Considering their environment, and that many Black males in California are in the habit of marrying/dating nonblack women do you think they will eventually become brainwashed to do the same? |

I don't have time to go searching for the statistic, but there was quite a bit of talk about it when the census was released---and if you walk through any Southern California MALL---you will see more "biracial" babies than black ones. You need a new pair of glasses.

My sons are raised by their father---a Garifuna from Belize---much more than me, and their father instills in them values about "blackness" and "black women" that simply are not HELD or TAUGHT in the Black American community.
As TOTEMS...they have vowed to Thomas...that they will hold HIS SEED "sacred" and that they will bring his image back into the world. "That we will always produce black men."
This is a VERY old world African attitude---and it is one of the reasons that I had children by Thomas in the first place.
Our children are not allowed to watch television--they can only watch Programs on VIDEO that their father has taped or purchased...movies like "Sounder", "The Prince of Egypt", "Blade" (ONLY the 1st one)....and a LOT of Discovery Channel programs and such.
Thomas makes it a point to praise Black women in front of our sons--and if we're walking through the mall, for instance--he will point out the "pretty black women" to our sons and make comments like..."Now there is a woman that can make some strong black Kings--ain't she fine?". And the boys will coo: "She's fine, daddy."
As their MOTHER, I go topless during prayer and take my sons with me to pray at the river EVERY DAY. I teach them about the "evil angels" that are out to destroy and ERASE black people---and that their mother's will is that they must be against ANYTHING....that is against their mother.
We teach our sons that men like Montel Williams, Michael Jackson, Bishop Desmond Tutu and Kofi Annan.......are NIGGERSTOCK. We speak of them with contempt.
My oldest boy has a "best friend" at school that he has lunch with and talks with every day...and it's a black girl named Antionette. She, like him, is sort of an "outcast"---because they're 2 of only 3 "Black" children out of 47 Biracial children at the school. The mixed kids call themselves "Mixies" and they don't like my son's hair or coloring--and this girl Antionette has the same cocoa skin and hair as my son.
I suspect (although I could be wrong) that my other son might be gay.
I'm saying I could be wrong, because when I was a little girl---I thought one of my brothers would turn out to be gay, as he was so incredibly sensitive---but he became a brain surgeon and is into his 2nd marriage and always dated women.
If my son IS gay--then that will be fine, although--Thomas will have to adjust.
Neither of my boys is 10 yet---but if one of them DOES grow up to choose a Non-Black woman, I can assure you--because of how they were CONDITIONED---it would have to truly be "true love" as I really don't see my sons choosing a woman who isn't BLACK.
Like all boys---they want to do their father's bidding.

I think there are more than 540,000 black people in California-I would guess at least double that number...
Yes, many black folks left urban areas to move out to place like Lancaster, Palmdale and Moreno Valley.
That's not to say there's not alot of race mixing going on here, there is. But there's plenty of black on black love going on too.

I grew up in California. Lived both Northern and Southern Cal and I work on a college campus.
The young brothers are dating/marrying black women, especially the folks in fraternities and sororities. They stick together like glue.
I went to a reggae club in Long Beach last night and it was 95% black. Everybody was groovin', folks of all ages, many Jamaicans and African Americans, Africans, no drama, no white girls with black men. There are many clubs where the clientele is strictly black. Those are the places I go to enjoy myself and where I feel most comfortable.
People think L.A. ends at Wilshire Blvd, which ain't the case
I still believe there is more that 1/2 million black people in L.A. County. Hell, there's that many folks at my house for Sunday dinner. |

kola you fuggin sell-out!!! ...psyche i'm just playin. black women should holla' at who ever makes them happy. i have a rather large extended family and i have way too many cousins and aunts who have dedicated themselves too assholes, thug-life wannabes, immature players, etc. yes they should learn at some point from one anothers mistakes or their own mistakes in selecting men but i guess they don't. can't pin that on all black men, and i know that there are more options when it comes to the brother's then those shitty examples of men, but at some point i would rather a black woman be with a man of another race if he is going to do right by her. |

The more I think about this issue, the more it seems that Kola is right espically when I hear what my "African American" female friends and her relatives have to say, its right on point with everything that Kola constantly brings to light. I put African American in quotation because I really don't know many black Americans.Living in Toronto (and yes there are many many black people in Toronto) most of them are from Africa or the Caribbean, mostly from Jamaica. Actually over here the African men seem to love the Jamacian women and Jamacian men are none to happy about that lol. As far has BM/WW pairing I think they do happen not sure in the same level as in the U.S (numbers wise) but most definetly it does happen, hell I live across the street from one interracial family.
Toronto being a really huge multicultural city which is cool and all (you have the whole world at your finger tips)it's starting to show in all these biracial/triracial children. I was on the subway last month, and a bunch of 1st graders came on (probably for end of the year trip). I swear to god I had no idea "what race" they were. From that one class I could discern one obviously dark skin black boy and one really blond white kid, the rest were all ethnically ambiguous. At first it was a little disconcerting for some strange reason, hell their kids! Then as I started to really think about it and it got really creepy, I dont know why it just did. Something about it was just.... off I can't explain it, it just was. Oddly enough the lone black kid and white kid were seperated from everyone else and talking to only each other. Maybe its just my natural aversion to children, or the thought of a race of Jessica Alba's taking over the world gave me the chills, could be a mix of both. |

I think the "talk" that you recall was about biracials of ALL races, not just black/non-black biacials. I don't doubt that there are more black/white, hispanic/white, asian/white, etc. babies COMBINED being born than black ones, but you seem to be implying that there is more black/non-black breeding going on than black/black in California and that is simply not true. Maybe from your vantage point in the valley this appears to be the case, but it just aint so.

I wonder what malls you shop at. Are these places with few blacks? When I visited Valley Fair mall in San Jose (blacks are 2-3% of the city, even less in the surrounding area) last December, I recall that most of the black men and women I saw with mates were with whites. But those blacks are FAR from typical of blacks in the rest of the Bay Area.
