SOAP DISH ON 'MY OLD FLAME OSAMA BIN LADEN' TV CHARACTER

July 2, 2006 -- Osama bin Laden is coming to a soap opera near you.
A woman who says she was the terrorist's unwilling mistress a decade ago and who is now a writer for hire for the NBC daytime soap "Days of Our Lives" is creating an outrageous evil side to one of the show's male characters based on the mass-murderer-in-hiding.
"I took characteristics straight from Osama," 37-year-old Kola Boof told The Post. "This character wants to take over the world."
"I'm bringing in his dark side based on my experiences in the underworld."
Now a soccer mom to two boys and living in a ranch house outside Los Angeles, Boof - born Naima Bint Harith - said after 9/11 that she had been repeatedly raped and intimidated into cohabitating with bin Laden for six months in Morocco in 1996.
He supposedly showered her with gifts - like exquisite silk dresses, chunky diamonds, and a farm in Kenya and a house in South Africa, both of which she says she still owns.
"Living with him was the most horrible thing," she said. "I still have nightmares that he's going to kill me."
"I'm not proud I was a kept woman, but I use a lot of what I went through with Osama bin Laden in my soap writing. Many of the women characters have deep, dark secrets, and I can relate to that."
"I've been sinful, I've been a villain, I've been desperate and hungry enough where I've had to make something happen. I know what it's like to be raped, to sleep with a rich man for his money, to have diamonds and furs."
Born in Sudan, Boof said she witnessed her parents murdered as a young child.
She was adopted by an American military man, grew up in Washington, D.C., and returned to Africa while in her early 20s.
According to her story, she met bin Laden while she was on a date with a man in a Marrakech restaurant. The terrorist had his goons usher the date, a Sudanese soccer player, away. The men then brought her to bin Laden, dressed in white robes and sitting at a corner table.
He asked her what she wanted to order. When she replied, "lion's meat," he told her she was "disgusting." She ran out of the restaurant fearing for her life. He later showed up at her hotel room - to rape her.
She left Morocco six months later.
She said the bin Laden she knew was "brilliant," striking, liked to hunt duck, enjoyed eating yogurt and peppered watermelon, smoked marijuana, made her wear her hair in a '60s-style flip hairdo, and prayed all day Tuesdays and Thursdays, when she was not allowed to speak to him or touch him. He also often spoke poorly of his mother and loved blondes.
Some have doubted the veracity of Boof's story.
After Sept. 11, she played homemaker for five years, living with her now ex-boyfriend Simon and their boys.
On a whim last year, she wrote a letter to Stephen Wyman, executive producer for "Days," asking him to take a look at her writing. After reading her autobiography, "Diary of a Lost Girl," Wyman let her write some dialogue and propose story lines. "It's my dream job, a fantasy for me," she said.
"They say I bring in the spice - I'm bringing in the idea that the characters should sin over money, power, glamour, men."

Fans of Novelist-Poet Kola Boof see racial animus in N.Y. Post labeling her "sex slave."
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 6, 2006 -- Fans of the Egyptian-Sudanese-American novelist and poet Kola Boof are outraged after the New York Post continued to label her a "sex slave" in the Sunday July 2nd Print Edition of their newspaper -- even after Ms. Boof graciously caved in and granted an interview to the Post's Marianne Garvey, who in emails and phone exchanges, promised that the newspaper would not continue to use such blatantly disrespectful terms to describe the black woman writer. In 1996, Kola Boof was the mistress to Osama Bin Laden against her will.
In a press statement released today, Kola Boof said: "I have never in my life been anyone's slave--not even Osama's, and yet I was not only referred to as a 'sex slave' after we agreed that I would not be... but no where in the article does it mention that I am a writer with seven books published in eight countries or a freedom fighter for Sudan's SPLA... I am introduced in the article as "A woman who says," which is a bit of nastiness they would never inflict on a white author, and then they go on to trash my work on the television serial, 'Days of Our Lives,' by rearranging my answers to several other questions and forming them into their own quite stupid storyline (and HEADLINE) about me supposedly bringing a 'Bin Laden-like' character to the show, which is non-sense, because Hogan Sheffer is our Head Writer and I have not or ever said that I was creating characters or storyline for this show beyond work I already did in a 'Shadow Bible' written in May. To add scorpions to locusts, they super-imposed Osama's head on a photo of actors Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso.

Post constantly referring me to as a 'sex slave'... I have been met only with racism, snobbery and all around privileaged ignorance by the pot-heads who edit and write for the newspapers in the United States, and since we all know that I could give two camel humps about being popular with the mainstream--let me just put them on notice that after everything I've endured and triumphed over in my very unusual life, I'm not about to be summed up as a 'sex slave.'

I have been acknowledged by the New York Times itself as a 'talented, groundbreaking' writer and I have given my heart and soul to the work that I did at 'Days of Our Lives,' because I learned English watching that show as a child and I told Stephen Wyman that I wanted to help out. There is no need for people to spit on me -- but if you do -- then I will make it like a memory."
Rumor has it that Boof's upcoming novel, "The Sexy Part of the Bible," will be entered for the National Book Award by Random House. Boof owns a 30 acre ranch in California where she's raising two sons and may soon have her own cooking show. Kola Boof's name joins the end credits of "Days of Our Lives" in August.

I find all the suspicion about Kola involvement with Osama to be interesting. I certainly cannot PROVE Bin Laden has bedded Kola. But, hell, dude’s likely boned 100’s of different chicks over the course of his life. So why wouldn’t some hot long, leggy and busty Sudanese chick be amongst his myriad conquests? |

Thanks for posting that Pretty. Kola is brilliant. I have a feeling she's going to bring a lot to Daytime TV and change the way we see certain issues.
How do I get a copy of that post article and photo shoot? I went to the New York Post *online edition* but it's not giving me a search option and I don't want to purchase anything other than that article. Do you know how it works? |
