Did anyone see where Republican Sen. Charles Grassley (Iowa) has a fantasy of stamping out pimping and prostitution by jailing them if they don’t file and pay taxes?
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill this past Wednesday that the committee chairman, Charles Grassley, authorizing at least $2 million (of our tax payers money) toward the establishment of an special office in the IRS criminal investigation unit to prosecute prostitutes and pimps for violations of tax laws. Why stop there? Why not tax crack dealers also.
If the activity is deemed illegal (of all the major industrialized nations -prostitution is the only illegal in the US), how can you tax it? How can a sane government create laws to tax an activity that is illegal to begin with? What’s wrong with this picture? And where am I going wrong?

If the activity is deemed illegal (of all the major industrialized nations -prostitution is the only illegal in the US), how can you tax it?
The IRS doesn't care where your money comes from, they just want you to pay your taxes. It's always been a requirement to pay income taxes on ill gotten gains, so this is nothing new. But since they must rely on the honor system to collect taxes, it's futile to expect criminals to do so. Hence the crackdown.
I think we need to do away with our current taxation system (since it doesn't work) and come up with a user tax or the value added tax. And eliminate the IRS. I'd also like to see our govt put our tax dollars to good use, instead of wasting it on BS - like a war that no one really agrees with. And all the other useless projects they waste our money on.  |

While having an income tax, America has become the richest, most powerful nation on earth.
The VAT is mostly used in the place of Sales Tax, not income taxes.
As long as foks have to PAY taxes, they'll find some fault with such.
The problem is NOT having an income tax. The issues are fairness, enforcement and proper UTILIZATION of what monies are collected.
Because you can have a VAT, Flat or A$$ tax. If the government's going to blow it fighting bad wars and building bridges to places nobody visit, it don't really matter HOW the hell we collect the money |

We are. But the foreign debt does not diminish that fact that the US is one of the wealthiest and best countries for opportunities in the world. The 2005 trade deficit that you speak of equaled 5.8 percent of our GDP. Not good. And it has been increasing every year.
The US has the largest national economy and a GDP for 2005 of 12.41 trillion dollars (Luxembourg is the wealthiest with an average GDP per capita of over $50,000!) Just think of where you could have been born: North Korea, Estonia, Bostwana Land, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Burkina Faso or Mauritania. That nurse modus operandi seems like a lot of work. Wouldn't it be easier to pick up a john at the hotel lounge? You know, you go in, sit down, order a drink and catch a trick. And you dress in business attire and carry a briefcase so that you look like a hotel guest. Or you pay the cabbies to bring the tricks to you, since tricks typically ask taxi drivers about such things. But I wouldn't know anything about any of that since I ain't never been a ho. LOL!

The former star dominatrix, who works for the prostitute help center "Midnight Mission," is in charge of the project in Dortmund. Founded in 1918, the center has rarely had so much to do. In recent years, she's heard increasing bad news from the red light milieu. Competition has surged at bordellos and among streetwalkers as thousands of women have poured into the sex trade -- and not just from economically depressed Eastern Europe. There are plenty of mothers simply trying to make ends meet, academics who can't find other work, or even schoolgirls trying to make some extra pocket money.
Prices for erotic services have dropped amid growing competition.
"The job situation is miserable," says Zohren, who estimates there are at least 50,000 prostitutes in North Rhine-Westphalia alone. The hooker surplus has led to a "dramatic drop in prices," meaning a john can get pretty much anything he wants for €30 these days. The only time any real money is to be made is during big events like a recent hunting trade fair in Dortmund.
Zohren says at least half of her clients want out of the sex business and most of them could imagine working with the elderly. She herself was once a successful strict mistress decked out in leather and latex in her own S&M studio, but managed to make the jump herself in the late 1990s. Once she did, she found the wishes of many of her former customers weren't so different from her nursing home work with bedpans and washcloths. She often used to play the role of nanny -- albeit with a whip. "I learned to listen and to convey a feeling of safety," says Zohren. "Isn't that exactly what's missing so much in care for the elderly?"
The whole concept sounds "very coherent" to Heinz Oberlach from Germany's Federal Labor Agency -- especially since there are few sectors that so desperately need new workers like nursing homes and social services. There are some 6,400 vacancies in the sector nationwide, even though Germany's unemployment rate tops 12 percent. And the country's rapidly aging society will only make the problem more acute in the coming decades. "It all fits together like the pieces of a puzzle," enthuses Oberloch.
Useful skills
Not easily disgusted? Some think prostitutes have the right skills to deal with the elderly.
In an attempt to alleviate any concerns of potential employers, Zohren and the project coordinators from the cities of Bochum and Münster will go on a road show around the state in the coming weeks. "The people we talk with need to realize that prostitution can offer true qualifications," says Zohren.
Rita Kühn from Diakone Westfalen is hoping for absolute discretion from nursing managers to avoid elderly men demanding erotic services from their new nurses.
Ex-prostitute Angelika is glad that her new colleagues and customers don't know about her past in the red light milieu. She feels "very comfortable" in her new job -- even though she doesn't earn even half as much as she did as Angie the hooker. And due to cutbacks in healthcare, she doesn't have as much time for her customers as she once did. "I used to be able to listen for a good half hour," she says. "But that isn't really possible now."

Isn't the nurses' "uniform" we're referring to a bit outdated..?
Nurse's no longer wear the white hat, nor do they wear a tight fitted dress or skirt anymore. The nurses' attire is very casual, cotton/polyester pants with the multicolored light weight jacket.

Oh really. Well, wearing a nursie uniform along with a stethoscope would constitute impersonating a nurse and or practicing medicine. And it's illegal in the state of California.
