By DAVID BAUDERThe Associated Press Tuesday, June 27, 2006; 5:22 PM NEW YORK -- Don't expect any smackdown between Rosie O'Donnell and Star Jones Reynolds on "The View." Reynolds said Tuesday she was leaving the show. She told People magazine, "I feel like I was fired." . . . . "I'm not sure what the future holds," she said. "But I'm absolutely sure who holds the future." . . . . O'Donnell had made several caustic remarks about Reynolds, saying that it was dishonest for her to talk about losing more than 100 pounds through diet and exercise without talking about gastric bypass surgery… http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/27/AR2006062700678. html ______________________________________ Star Jones Reynolds to leave daytime talk show The View Last Updated Tue, 27 Jun 2006 16:25:40 EDT CBC Arts U.S. daytime talk personality Star Jones Reynolds confirmed tabloid rumours Tuesday by announcing she was leaving ABC's The View. Star Jones Reynolds, seen here in April, announced on air Tuesday that she was leaving The View. (Steve Mitchell/Associated Press) Reynolds, a former prosecutor who has been on the Barbara Walters-spawned daily chat program since it began in 1997, announced her departure on-air Tuesday morning. "The View is now moving in a new direction, and I will not be returning this fall," she told viewers. "I'm not sure what the future holds," Reynolds said, "but I'm absolutely sure who holds the future." In the issue of People hitting newsstands this Friday, Reynolds tells the magazine that she feels "like she was fired" and claims that her contract was not renewed for the upcoming 10th season of the program. Daytime talk plays musical chairs Rumours that Reynolds was leaving have been floating ever since ABC announced in late April that comedienne and award-winning talk show host Rosie O'Donnell would be replacing View moderator and co-host Meredith Vieira this fall. Vieira was tapped by NBC as Katie Couric's successor on the top-rated Today, after Couric announced she was leaving to anchor the CBS Evening News. On Tuesday, Walters urged The View audience to give Reynolds a standing ovation and said she was sad the situation "has turned out this way." Joy Behar, another co-host, appeared shocked at the news. "Who am I going to fight with?" Behar asked. "Something tells me you will have somebody to fight with," Reynolds replied. Longtime sparring partners Rosie O'Donnell (right), seen here with her partner, Kelli Carpenter, at the 2004 Tony Awards, will return to daytime talk TV as one of the hosts on The View. (Diane Bondareff/AP) After ABC's announcement in April, buzz had been building over the possible on-air skirmishes between O'Donnell and Reynolds. Over the years, the two verbally sparred several times during O'Donnell's periodic appearances as a guest on The View. Most recently, O'Donnell, who has battled with her own weight, has been publicly critical of Reynolds for her refusal to admit to viewers how she lost more than 100 pounds in the past two years. Reynolds has only mentioned an unspecified "medical intervention." O'Donnell has said she believes Reynolds has undergone gastric bypass surgery and has criticized the former lawyer for perpetuating the notion such extreme weight loss can occur simply from exercise and diet change. There have also been rumours about Reynolds disapproving of non-traditional lifestyles. After winning six Emmy Awards in six years for her eponymous talk show, O'Donnell ended the program in order to spend more time with her children and partner, Kelli Carpenter. http://www.cbc.ca/story/arts/national/2006/06/27/star-jones-view.html |

That seems to be the case. Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off. Black Mammy loses weight and gets a man. It turns America off.

Yep. When they 'count you out', they want you to stay down. She has been so happy, this past year, I'm sure some folks get miserable just looking at her. They're probably feeling a little vertigo too - what's the pretty black fat girl with style who probably cries herself to sleep doing on cloud 9?!!? How could they replace classy Star Jones for Rosie. I can guess what direction they're going in - down. If it were the other way around, there would be no question about what to do for 'The View' |

I never watch The View, but I saw Ms. Jones hosting LarryKingLive a few weeks ago. I found it unnerving the way she gasps for air. That may have been part of the reason for why she was shown the door. Then there was the part about how she supposedly contracted HIV during her gastro surgery. And that her husband is supposedly gay. And she looks plain awful since the weight loss. God, I sound like a hater. LOL! |

Mzuri, I agree Star appears quite haggard after her dramatic weight lost. But I think the producers of The View are only using that as an excuse to get rid her when the real reason is Rosie O'Donnell LOATHES Star. Although I'm ambivalent about Star's own individual celebrity, I definitely think that she brought a useful & unique energy and perspective to The View. So it'll be interesting to see whether the show and O'Donnell suffer some backlash from Star's canning. I'm actually kinda surprise that some hellraising, butch dyke like O'Donnell can stroll into The View and wield so much juice. These times they sure are achangin'. |

O'Donnell has been her own worst enemy since her prime back in '96. Given her disposition and ill-temper, The View may not last as long as people think. On the flip side, White America doesn't give a shit about what White America thinks, so odds are that The View will cast itself into obscurity and TV oblivion unless Barbara Walters has a wardrobe malfunction, and really soon. |

I wish the fuck I could run into Rosie O'Donnell's butch ass. And I really mean that. P.S. Barbara Walters has totally lost me. She fucked over STAR royally, along with ABC and all their bullshit "surveys". THE FACT IS----A "fat" glamorous Mammy who they had a problem with from day one (because she was glamorous and assertive).....lost all that weight, got a MAN (and tons of attention for it), and though she looks Haggard because of the dramatic weight loss----still looks a HELLA better than the rest of those tired ass white bitches.

Kola, I DEFINITELY think once Star's face and body had acclimated and adjusted to the weight loss, she wouldah been WAAAAY to FIERCE for The View's old biddy Beckys to stand. Kola: "I wish the fuck I could run into Rosie O'Donnell's butch ass." I wish you would TOO. Because that THERE might be worthy of the price of one of those WWF Pay-Per-View spectacles. Hahahaha!!! |

IMO Star's drastic weight loss explosed all of her bad features, and I found it uncomfortable to watch her because I was so distracted by her bulging eyes and non-existent neck. She also was very self-centered. But I'm not prejudiced. I can't stand that Pollyannna white girl on there, either. It will be interesting to see who Star's replacement will be. If it's Oprah's friend Gayle, we can be prepared to be bored by the blandness she personifies and which might be what the are looking for in their token black slot. In any case, time brings change and it was time for The View to do a little rennovating. I wouldn't rule out them having rotating guests to fill in the spot vacated by Star. I actually could live with Whooppee Goldberg making regular appearances.

Rosie O'Donnell has never exhibited any kind of warmth towards black folks. She’s never been outright with her coolness...but she's always had an air of "good ol' boy" about her....No pun intended. And Barbara Walters has lost my vote as well, Kola. As for Gayle Vying for the position, neither she nor Oprah will score brownie points from black folks for that move...and despite what Oprah says, that's important to her. But for as long as we've known Whoopi Goldberg, she's been (genuinely) center-left, so to speak; so I agree with Cynnique in that she seems plausible for the position. |

TONYA, Email from Kola: Tell Tonya (and all) that the New York Post is doing a feature article about me in this Sunday's paper and we did a photo shoot in my boss's office today. He has this wayyyy long boardroom table and they sat me up looking all important with a big screen t.v. behind me showing "Days of Our Lives" as I peered through scripts. Tell her (you can just copy/paste this email Lydia if you want) that I hear they also have some movie stills from one of my old movies "Laylat al-Zafif" (The Wedding Night) in the article, so I guess my stupid old Arab movies are about to come back to HAUNT me. I've already posted pics of my bare ass to go with my tits, though, so I'm not worried. I refuse, and besides--thanks to Blockbuster Video and how HOT I was back then, I'll finally be popular with black men in a big way. Today was kind of a bummer because I was asked about the STAR JONES thing in front of a large group of people and I told my honest opinion about the situation. Nobody agreed with me and I insisted that Barbara Walters is a typical two-faced white bitch and Rosie O'Donnell needs my foot up her ass--bloated fucking COW. Girl it was gett'n too deep. One guy accused me of supporting STAR mainly because she's black, and you know me--I admitted it. If I don't have her back when she's been fucked over by caucasoids, who will? My "new people" turned white as a ghost. Just floored. What did they expect me to say? I told them: From now on, I'll tell the truth in Arabic and speak English the rest of the time. I'll try to post if I can tomorrow. Kola

The View didn't get rid of the Asian one. She left because she wanted to do something more meaningful than sitting around chewing the fat with a bunch of hens. Star Jones wore out her welcome with viewers because all she wanted to do was sit around talking about how she wasn't chewing the fat. And how anyone could look upon this show as a spin-off from NOW is beyond me. It's nothing but entertainment; very apolitical, and middle of the road. Its audience is, after all, mostly stay-at-home moms and retirees. |

“The View didn't get rid of the Asian one. She left because she wanted to do something more meaningful than sitting around chewing the fat with a bunch of hens. Its audience is, after all, mostly stay-at-home moms and retirees. Doooonnnngggg!! You are right on point! I have seen the show once or twice and there is nothing there that remotely interests me. But what I have heard is that Star had taken on a caustic negative and antagonistic persona. As many of you know that watch he program, Rosy O’Donnell blew the whistle on Stars lie about her weight loss. She claimed working out, dieting and palates was responsible for physical transformation. But in reality, it was a gastric bypass surgery that created the weight loss. Millions of women watch that show and she was somewhat of a positive celeb because of her so-called weight loss due to diet and working out. But she lied! It’s like Bill Clinton. It was not the fact that he was getting lunch time nobbers by a White House intern, but he lied about getting head and booty service! The ethical question of his behavior was bad enough but when he lied under oath, that gave his enemies the legal ammo to attack him. Conclusion: IT’S THE LYING STUPID! A lesson Star has hopefully learned (although it is too late). From what I heard, her nefarious story telling and jaundiced personality lead to her getting the boot. Losing weight and being black had nothing to do with her demise. She brought all of this on herself. There was no racist smoke filled backroom conspiracy intrigue to dismiss her from the show! One more thing, about a month or so ago, my mother asked me had I seen her lately. I said no since as I stated before, I’m not a regular viewer of the show. She said, “Oh my God! You should see her, see looks horrible since she lost all that weight! She looks so much older and her skin is sagging like an old women”. Is this true?

I did Serenasailor. She told her side on the Larry King Show--and it was nothing like what Ntfs_encryption posted in his July 01, 2006 - 03:13 post. Star said that she made it perfectly clear in her book and in a previous Larry King interview that her weight loss was due to a medical intervention. She said she didn't reveal what kind of intervention it was because she felt that part was personal. (What other women in Hollywood, besides Joan Rivers, disclosed where and how they've got they're nose, lips or ass done??) But she provided evidence - with Larry himself as her witness - that she did not lie about her weight loss. I've heard her say it myself many times. Several times on "The View" and often in the Media she has admitted that is was a medical procedure--but that she wasn't going to get into what kind it was; and she gave several valid reasons why she should not. I don't understand what all the hoopla is all about. And it is beyond me how somebody that calls himself a black man...is among the people that are spreading such vicious lies about this woman...lies that were eloquently and soundly refuted. Don't understand it. |

”Star said that she made it perfectly clear in her book and in a previous Larry King interview that her weight loss was due to a medical intervention.” Really? And what exactly was that so-called medical procedure? Did she state “exactly” what caused her massive weight loss? No. For quite a while she tapped danced and evaded the question. She was very evasive and never stepped up to the plate to state exactly what happened. She was very open and brazen about her boob job, but not about the gastric bypass. Why? What do you not understand about being evasive and dodging a straight forward question? ”She said she didn't reveal what kind of intervention it was because she felt that part was personal.” Fine. I personally don’t have a problem with it because what you do in your personal life is exactly that -personal. I have always maintained that philosophy throughout my posts. But when you are a public figure or celebrity and something about your personal life or appearance is called into question and you decide to be evasive and dodge the truth, well…you set yourself up for people questioning your veracity. This is exactly what happened to Star. But she provided evidence - with Larry himself as her witness - that she did not lie about her weight loss. I've heard her say it myself many times. Uh huh….I see. And that evidence she provided were transcripts or videos of her directly answering the questions about her dramatic weight loss as a gastric bypass surgical procedure, right? I think not. Simply stating “I had a medical procedure” doesn’t cut it. What medical procedure? It’s like someone who wears extremely thick coke bottle glasses all their lives and then one day they no longer wear them. When asked what happened to the glasses, the person responds by saying, “Oh, I had an ophthalmological procedure”. Duhhhhhh…? What does that mean? LASIK? PRK? VISX, WaveScan? Crystalens? Contacts? What? And when pressed for an “exact answer”, THEY TAP DANCE AND WALTZ AWAY FROM GIVING A DIRECT AND EMPATHIC RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION! This is exactly what she did. ”………..she has admitted that is was a medical procedure--but that she wasn't going to get into what kind it was; and she gave several valid reasons why she should not. She admitted she had a ”medical procedure” only after she was repeatedly questioned about it. But not initially. And by giving such a vague response as a “medical procedure”, she set herself up for more intense and focused questioning. That is the cost of the ticket for being a celeb or high profile individual. I personally don’t agree with it, but the public has an insatiable drive to know all the minutia of your personal life. And if you don’t give them the truth that’s when they turn the investigative tabloid and gossip Dobermans loose on you. She knew that. Just like she knew what she was doing when she shamelessly used her celebrity status to solicit all those freebies for her wedding. Star pushed product-placement and celebrity freebies to a new extreme. She took a lot of heat for soliciting freebies and for her on-air plugs for wedding suppliers when she was on the air. As you may know, there are federal regulations, which prohibit on-air mentions in exchange for products. It's a murky area, but it didn’t stop Star until a controversy arose and then she noticeably cut back with her “on-air wedding chatter”. And of course she is not the only one guilty of this, but she nevertheless did it. And being a lawyer (a former federal prosecutor), she really had no excuse for doing so because she knew what the ramifications were. I don't understand what all the hoopla is all about.” Exactly! I agree with you. But had she admitted and told the truth about the exact cause of her weight loss, the storm of controversy (led by Rosie O’Donnell) never could have happened….period! I personally know of seven women who have had the procedure. NONE ONE OF THEM EVADED ANSWERING WHAT LEAD TO THEIR WIEGHT LOSS. So why was Star so evasive about a common surgical procedure that thousands of obese people undergo? It makes no sense. ”And it is beyond me how somebody that calls himself a black man...is among the people that are spreading such vicious lies about this woman... OMG! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! That’s funny. What does being black have to do with any of this? You need to move on past your race victimization and conspiracy paranoia. There is none here. Neither with me nor the demise of Star Reynolds. SHE IS NOT A VICTIM OF SOME KIND OF RACSIT CONSPIERACY TO DISCREDIT OR UNDERMIND HER. Her downfall was the direct result of her own personal behavior and poor judgment. Cheeeezzzzz…… “……..lies that were eloquently and soundly refuted. Refuted where? Not on this board! What world are you living in? Is the sky blue? Is there gravity? Does it have oxygen? What lies are you talking about? Please tell me where I posted something about Star that never happened nor existed? Did I say she was half Korean? She was raised in Youngstown, Ohio? Or did I say she had a sex change operation? Those are examples of lies. I suggest you research a dictionary for the meaning of the words “…eloquently and soundly refuted”. You’re confused. Don't understand it. This is true. Your confusion is noted. And for the record, I personally have no ill feelings towards Star. Why should I? As I stated in the beginning, I never did watch nor care about that cheesy show. And why would I wish for something bad to happen to her? I have no dog in the fight between her, The View, Rosie or Barbara Walters. I could care less. But I wish her all the luck in her next adventure. She is very bright and I’m sure she will have no problem securing another job that will pay her well. But she did put herself in the dog house with poor judgment. Oh yeah, one more thing. I already know what your counter accusation is going to be (e.g. “…eloquently and soundly refuted”). So let me put the finals nails in the coffin and end this. Your faulty defense of splitting hairs and semantics will not work! Let be more specific. Perhaps the word I initially used (lying) was a somewhat harsh. So I will give an analogy to explain my point. If I came home at 0130 am and my wife questioned me as to why I came how so late and where was I, I respond by saying, “Oh, I ran into an old friend , we drank some cold brews, hung out and talked about the old days back in the Navy. We were stationed together on the same ship. I guess I could have called and told you I would be late coming home and that I was ok. I’m sorry. Wont’ happen again.” Well, that was true. But what I failed to tell my wife was the old friend I ran into was a “former girl friend”, we did drink some beers, we had sex two times in the evening, she was in the Navy and we were both stationed on the same ship. Now, is there a lie somewhere in there? And how wide is the demarcation line between “omission and withholding definitive facts” and “not telling the truth”? You tell me. E’nuff said…..
