Is there something wrong with a man who is in his late 20s (26 and up) who still lives at home with his mom/dad? If so, why?

Depends if he is just a "scrub" or if he is wearing scrubs, studying to be a doctor, or some such. Fully grown, perfectly healthy young men (and women) don't want to leave the nest for some reason. That said, other cultures (Vietnamese-Americans, for example) encourage family members to live under the same roof to pool their financial resources. |

My friend is 29 years old, in college, never has had a car, or his own apartment; he lives with his sister. It's a great thing that he decided to change his life around, and better his educational background to attain a good career. But even with that being said, 29 is just too damn old to be mooching off of relatives. At that age, just going to college is just not enough. A job AND school, along with a car and your own apartment is much more suitable. He is wonderful person. But comes across as such a moocher a lot of the times. If I happen to be grabbing me a bite to eat at a restaurant while I'm on my cell with him he'll try to get me to purchase him something too. He has the nerve to want me to go out of my way to take it all the way over to where he lives so he can pay me. Every. single. time. he does that shit. I haven't done it once, though. He's never had a car of his own so he makes deals with friends to buy him food and bring it over to him. There are so many black males who are just like him that I wonder if its become acceptable in a way. |

I used to think it was not okay-- Then I saw how the Asians and other groups do it--how they pool their resources, how the man is there to help contribute until he gets married-- But then again these groups love their children. Negroes can't wait to throw their children to the dogs (one of the reasons why the Atlanta Child murderer was able to strike--nobody watching--nobody really wanted them until they were gone You wonder why the hell people have them if they want to throw them out so fast? All is going to happen is they are going to have to move in with them when they get old and sick |

It's smart if he has a concrete plan. If he is just working for minimum wage, pissing away his dollars on liquor and weed and expecting his food cooked and laundry done--he is a SCRUB, plain and simple... |

Why does a black man have to be pissing away his dollars on liquor and weed and expecting his food cooked and laundry done? Why do these images immediately spring to mind? Always something negative when a black man is doing something. And people wonder if Wayne Williams could have killed all those boys! He was doing them a favor. They were only going to grow up and be nothing-- Why did you leave out injecting cocaine and raping white women to round out the lovely picture? |

^^^^Did you not read my post? I said if he is living at home and has a concrete plan for his future, than staying at home is smart--you are saving money. Reading is fundamental. |

I know a whole bunch of girls and i mean a whole bunch too that still live with their parents, and no one says a dang thing about it to them. my girlfriend still lives with her parents and she's 26 and i don't think anything of it. not because i think it's ok for women but not ok for men, but because she's doing what she has to do to tighten her belt and get done with school and not be a slave to student loan debt. when i moved out of my apartment and stayed with my moms before i bought my house, it only made since not to release again for 6 months or until right before i purchased my crib ...when i could just save more staying at my moms. where i resided at the time and where i reside now should only be a concern to someone if they plan on living with me or if they plan to pay my mortgage payments. i think trying to live up to other peoples standards and social views is what gets some people in trouble... especially young black males and females. |

I agree we put too much pressure on our selves to 'look good' right now. I think it is especially bad for our young men and kills the call for 'deferred gratification'. If your friend lives in the city, then a car is a big liability; but otherwise, it's pretty standard for a 29 year old. Maybe he's holding out for a car that 'looks good'. |

He lives in the city. And he doesn't work, so he has no money to buy a car. Majority of the time he tries to catch rides with friends to get to whereever he wants to go.
