So I am mostly Ethiopian and it seems that everyone hates us. Especially African Americans, Nigerians, and Somalians. And I have no idea why. A lot of them say that we think we are too good and that we care too much about skin color. I have no idea where they get this from b/c me and my family and friends are nice to everyone no matter skin color. Yes I like my skin tone and hair or w.e but being proud of how I look does not mean that I think everyone else is ugly. So can u plz tell me why everyone Hates Egyptians and Ethiopians so much??? |

Welcome to Thumper's. Let me just say that I am not a hater. Unless you are Oprah or Halle. LOL!
But seriously, I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think most AAs know the difference between a West African or an East African.
It's my understanding that the Africans think that AAs are inferior. Is that true? Is it because Africans consider us to be "watered-down?" (Mixed with the other races) |

Well when I lived in Ethiopia I just thought African Americans were Americans. After I came to America I thought they were like me and just had moved to America. I was 7 when I moved here and didn't know anything about slavery or the history of African Americans. My family always told me to respect everyone but I have heard some pretty nasty things being said about African Americans. Some Africans I have met think that African Americans are inferior b/c they don't have a language or set culture of their own. Some of them are so proud that they think African Americans are too Americanized. Also a lot of African Americans don't identify w/ Africa at all and I have had experiences where I was screamed at b/c I asked African Americans if they considered themselves African. |

I don't get what your trying to say, are Somali's a part of the hater group cause if you didn't notice Somalia is in East Africa its the horn of Arica. And I don't know who lied to you but Egypt is in North Africa so its either your really confused about geography or just not very clear in your question/statment that seems to be labeling entire groups of people as "haters". Please be more clear from now on. |

minty not everyone hates on ethiopeans... i know i don't cept, i kinda hate my girlfriend's brother ... but that's only cause he's owed me $83.46 going on two years now. anyways who cares if your from ethiopia, bahamas, haiti, somalia, or whever ever... when you touch ground in the u.s. you become black.... i don't care if your just visiting for the weekend. my girl tried to tell me about this african culture and that african culture but to be honest with you, unless i plan on moving there i'll respect her and listen but in all honesty what happens in a place that takes me a couple of days to get to by air plaine ..ins't at the top of my priorities. so you need to ask yourself minty are you just visiting or are you staying for a while... because if you are staying for a minute then you learn how african americans live (where ever your at) because if you don't think you'll be grouped with black americans... well, let's just say ...just don't run into any trouble while your here  |

Minty - We do have a language. It's American English, Ebonics, PigLatin and a little bit of Jafaican. Combined with neck jerking, finger snapping, hand gestures and the rolling of the eyes it's a very effective method of communication. And I don't know why Black people or Negroids or whatever you want to call it, why can't we get along and treat each other with dignity and respect. We hurt ourselves more with our own hatred between/amongst us than by the negative impact of all the garbage that the whiteman tried to put on us. I mean, we can relate to why white ppl don't like us, but why can't we love the members of our own race?

Hmmm... Well, all the h/abeshas I know are cool as hell. They are some proud black people and there's nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned. But you do have those "I'm not black" ones that walk around with this big hubris as if they're better than everyone (particularly other Africans - which includes Black "Americans"), and worship white people. Fortunately, I haven't met too many, but I've heard plenty horror stories. |

Your comment is well said. I agree 100%. I have never understood the petty and intra-racist divisive rhetoric that many blacks indulge in regardless of where they are from. It sickens me to hear one group of blacks degrade and put done another group in order to elevate themselves to some self-serving pseudo-position of superiority. It’s pathetic. I do know that these divisions exist. Where I live, there are Eritherians, Somalian's, Ethiopians, Sudanese, Nigerians and American blacks. I have personally talked to the Africans and there are some real frictions between the various African groups just like the divisions between American blacks. It’s all very tragic to me. I would rather focus on commonalty and respect rather than counterproductive antagonistic pettiness.

Mint_carl0v3's first post is why other Africans "hate" her "kind"? I think she needs to get her head out of her ass. She is just looking for pity and flattery. Ethiopians in general need to get their heads out of their asses. You need to start helping your people (many of whom are in abject poverty) and stop obsessing about what other Africans think about you. Gee golly.
If I have to read another Ethiopians "woe is me- all the other Africans hate us cause we're so 'pretty'" rant I will jump off a building. |

What's up people! Well, Each time I went to Ethiopia, Mogadishu, or Kenya, I had a conversation with one or more people about us African Americans. I had a guy tell me we had no respect for ourselves or our God and basically F*ck America. The ironic thing was that he was Nike’d down from head to toe.
I've heard the word or have been called Kafir on more than one occasion. I thought for years it meant like Nigger in some African language, but come to find out it was the Muslim population in Africa that were implying that we African Americans have lost our true faith. (Islam) Go figure! (Ha haa) To the credit of some however some Africans hate us because of the military. (and with good reason) But they can stay their asses there and let us do our thing.

But you too would be confused/angry if ppl assumed u were a conceited bitch just b/c or ur heritage
And I can't say how many rants I have read by African Americans about colorism and mulattoes. How about instead of obsessing over skin color and what others choose to classify themselves as you help out your people. |

I personally have not met that many Africans, so I don't know what goes on with y'all. But it sure seems like there's a bunch of haters around here though. Who is "us" and who is "you"? It seems that Somalis hate Ethiopians, Ethiopians hate Eritreans, Egypt wants no part in East Africa, Nigerians hate Ethiopians, Ethiopians hate Nigerians ... Yemen isn't even in Africa, etc, etc, etc ...
What makes you so special as an "Ethiopian" that people must stop "hating" you and instantly accept you? If people constantly tell you you're condescending then hey, you just might be condescending and snooty. Change your attitude and behavior. Don't come on here foaming at the mouth that people "hate" you. African Americans I'm sure are hated by many people, too - as are Nigerians, Algerians and Kenyans. What is your point and why are you here? The point of a site like this is for Black people to discuss our issues and learn from each other so that we can progress as a whole. (right guys?)
In contrast, when Ms. Boof talks about Sudanese people being downtrodden and being abused she really means it. Having dark skin, especially "charcoal black" as she words it, is almost always a disadvantage in this world. It is these people who are truly hated in every sense of the word.

I don't go randomly complaining saying "oh god everyone hates me"
I brought it up here b.c I saw all the posts that talked of ethiopians negitavley and wanted to know why
Nothing makes us special but since I am ethiopian and since ppl do hate on me it is an issue for me
If I was nigerian and ppl hated on me I would say something on that matter
And the same if I was Algerian or Kenyan

Mint - A word of advice. If you want folks to like you; don't lead with the yes I look good, so what's your problem, I'm nice to everybody stuff. I've only met about 20 Africans in my life, so except from what I've read or heard on the news; I have no preconcieved notions about Ethiopians. AAs really aren't thinking about you that much one way or the other. It would probably be better to approach each AA you meet with that in mind. |

No offense to anybody. But I honestly believe the worst offenses African Americans commit against natives of East African are 1) not being able to distinguish you from West Africans or 2) not even noticing you at all. |

I didn't realize we did hate them. I've dated Somalis myself. Was even engaged to one for a time. Seemed nice enough to me. |
