The Irish are some of the most evil white ppl on earth next to the Germans of course. The atrocities that they committed should never be forgiven. How do you feel? |

The riots at Four Points before the Civil War. Where the Irish murdered thousands of Blacks. The riots in Boston in the 1800 were thousands of Black were murdered. More recently the busing of Black children in Boston in the 1970's were black children were beaten, and threaten just for wanting to go to school and receive and education. The Irish are the "Scum of the earth" as with all with all White ppl. But they are the most evil. |

Serena: I don't want to give nobody a play for anything but I think we ought to get the facts straight. You're talking about the New York Draft Riots in 1863--during the war. I think the death toll of blacks was in the dozens. I don't remember the Boston riots in 1800--don't think there were many Irish there at that time and probably not that many Blacks. |

Serensailor: I feel that your comparsion is ridiculous. There are lots of groups who have done horrible things to black people. While the Irish have been perpertrators of violence against blacks in the past, as a group they are the least of them and not worthy of my time or concern |

Interesting . . . the draft riots: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Draft_Riots During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Irish gangs, as well as police departments that were generally comprised mostly of Irish, not only rampaged black folk but also other Italians and Jews. Thus, not only is this a question of riots but also cases of everyday violence directed at blacks and others on the streets . . . much like it is today, except that the police officers are black! With that said, hate is a strong word! Also, there have been other groups who have also directed violence towards blacks! If folk are too be hated then it would be white folks, WASP in particular nor the Irish . . . Let the record show that I hate neither . . . I'm a peaceful brotha!

Serenasailor is a fountain of misinformation and half-truths. Most stuff that is familiar or common knowledge to other people are new to him. He's an example of the old saying "a little bit of learning is a dangerous thing." The Irish are no different from any other immigrant group in their behavior against blacks. It is interesting to note that when they first came to this country, the Irish were subjected to almost as much discrimination as blacks were. |

The Irish killed about 104 blacks during the New York Draft Riots, but in the end the Marines subded the Irish, killing about a thousand or so. I guess that balanced things out. ;o) Having said that, the Irish-American immigrans have been notoriously anti-black down through history, overcompensating for their own inferiority complexes towards Anglo-Saxons by mimicking all of the Anglo-Americans worst traits. In other words, the only way the Irish could feel like somebody was either by oppressing us, or Italians, or Jews, or Chinese, or anybody else, for that matter. Perfect example: Joe McCarthy, whose mother was from Tipperary County, Ireland. McCarthyism is really the expression of shanty working class Irish bigotry gone totally mad. And yes, he was a big sloppy drunk and a closet homosexual. |

Come on, now. I can't see the Irish "oppressing" the Italians with their Mafia and the Jews with their money. Irishmen John and Robert Kennedy made a big show of reaching out to blacks during the 1960s and their brother Senator Teddy Kennedy continues this liberal tradition. In Chicago, The Irish Daley political dynasty always shared their spoils with all ethnic groups including the blacks. Chicago's large Polish popoulation were always the ones who were prejudiced against blacks. BTW, Democratic Senator Eugene McCarthy from Minnesota was the anti-thesis of Wisconsin Republican Senator Joe McCarthy. |

Cynique: you may be collapsing history . . . Italians and the Jews began to immigrate to the US in large numbers in the 1880s, but the Mafia did not become well established in the US until the late 1920s. Before this, the Irish police and gangs reigned! And although there were Jewish gangs, there were not as successful as the Italians; the money that the Jews had, which you speak of had yet to come to fruition. Also, the Irish and in general the majority of white politicians, including Bill Clinton, had only given more than the Republicans. It is well documented that both Kennedy and Daley had actually done little for African Americans. Also, to obviate the position that the Kennedys' and Johnson's support of Civil Rights legislation proves me wrong, consider that MLK, the murder of white civil rights activist, and the pressures of the Cold War had more to do with the passing of the legislation than the affinity of the Irish brothers(John and Robert) and the Southerner (Johnson) for black folk and black rights. |

OK, Yukio, I have to watch Martin Scorcese's movie "The Gangs of New York" more closely next time it comes on Cable TV. LOL. I just had a hard time imagining that the Irish, who were so despised, were able to seize power and "oppress" other minorities any more than the WASPs did. I guess these fugitives from the potato famine were hungry for power and managed to generate it in the lower echelon of American society. I agree that latter day Irish politicians like the Kennedy's and Clinton were being expedient in their attempts to court the black electorate but, whatever the case, they were also successful in doing this because blacks flocked into the fold. And in Chicago as I have previously stated, from way back, the Irish Machine in order to cull the black wards into its power base, always rewarded the black party faithful. I also continue to resist the idea that the Irish are any worse than any other white ethnic group when it comes to discriminating against blacks; they just got a head start. More recently, the Jewish/Black alliance has certainly become unraveled. Sorry, Serenasailor, guess you've earned your right to hate the Irish. |

Well, I am not said that they were any worse than other whites groups, only that they did terrorize blacks and Jews. Also, just because black folk have embraced these politicians, doesn't mean that they actually embraced issues that pertained to the black community . . . black folk have embraced Lincoln but he didn't believe that blacks were equal to whites nor that they should be freed . . . he did it to "save the union." Of course "blacks flocked into the fold," it was a question of politics . . . picking, which is often our existential plight, the lesser of two evils.

Well, Yukio, I said that the Kennedys and Clinton were being "expedient" in reaching out the the black electorate, not honest. Blacks, like the majority of other voters, obviously succumbed to the charismatic Irish charms of these men. I'm certainly not embracing them or suggesting that these shrewd politicians delivered on all of their campaign promises. |
