I've noticed that the black men who date/marry white (non-black) women are typically dark-skinned(authentic) black men.
With that being said should we still consider these men black? Take for instance Barak Obama a bi-racial man who chose to marry a dark-skinned black woman Is he more black than Kobe Bryant who if he had the chance would tear his skin off and throw it away? |

its, so closed minded and simple to say something like, "if kobe bryant had the chance, he would tear off his skin and throw it away". where does that come from? because his wife is mexican, it means he would tear his skin off and throw it away? his wife is beautiful, this is who he loves, and she is who he married. kobe bryant is still our brother. would carlos santana, who is married to a black woman, tear off his skin and throw it away? would alfrie woodard's husband who is white would he tear off his skin and throw it away because his wife is black? this type of thinking is petty. life is short. if someone finds someone who they love and who respects them, i would say marry that person. the vast majority of our people marry other black people. but those of our people who don't. i would not say that they would tear their skin off and throw it away. how could anyone but kobe bryant say if he would tear his skin off and throw it away? i don't know kobe bryant, and i don't think anyone on this board does. like it or not kobe is still our brother. the fact that his wife is mexican does not change this. i think we should not judge our own in such a manner. because statements like, "he would tear his skin off and throw it away", what good do they do us. kobe's wife is mexican, thats no proof he would tear his skin off and throw it away. i do know that kobe's ancestors were enslaved and came to this country on ships in chains. same as mine. kobe's ancestors were beaten, hung, and raped. same as mine. while our ancestors were in the americas in chains, who knows what barak obamas people were doing, but i know they were not enslaved, raped, beaten, and sold in chains. kobe bryant's ancestor and my ancestors have this in common. i think barak obamas father came to this country on a jumbo jet. kobe bryant is our brother. lets not be so petty. |

again, can't we differ in opinion without name calling? it's interesting that you know what kobe thinks. i think its interesting that if a person has a different opinion than yours, they have "hatered" of black culture(what ever that is)

Just because someone's a "nigger"---doesn't mean they aren't authentically black.
And that's a CRUCIAL thing to understand, Serena_Sailor.
The "most authentic" are the ones who are often the most colorstruck, self-hating sell outs, because they suffer the most oppression and ridicule.
You can't go around claiming that a White Man is BLACK just because he's the most down for the Black cause.
Or the reverse.
BLOOD dictates our racial status. I am NOT authentically black--but I know enough to fight for that end of the spectrum.

I'm brownskinned and NEVER had a darkskin boyfriend--the guys who pursue me the most are usually yellow--high yellow Black guys.
I think it's because of in our culture if two really dark people get together they will get taunted as how 'black' the two of them are together, and how 'midnight' dark their children will be.
And if two really lightskin people get together than they will be labeled 'the sun couple' and their children will be 'transparent' or albino.
I think they balance each other out, actually.
But it does appear that the darkest black men try the HARDEST to get a lightskin--to nonblack woman. Whenever there is a mulatto girl around--a significant number of *dark complected* black guys will surround her, interrogating her about her ethnicity. Their fascination with mixed blood is rather embarssing to me--and shows their lack of self pride, period. I rarely see lightskin men participate in this type of behavior.
Most lightskin guys are not fascinated quite as much by lightskin women (not that they don't find them attractive) it's just that they already have 'fairskin' and 'fine textured' hair. So you can't impress him with that, cause he already posesses it. If his ideas are the opposite then he *most likely* comes from one of those colorist families that are hard on their children to only *procreate* with women who look like them and take immense pride in 'fine curly hair' and the ability to genetically produce 'light colored eyes' in the family lineage--he will stay away from Black women only because of the pressure. But if not, he will freely date and marry them.

I wouldn't even give time to a guy who found my skin color "fascinating" or who made a big deal out of what he think our children could look like.
When I hear Egyptian men make a big deal out of it, it IMMEDIATELY turns me off (maybe that's one reason I've never dated an Egyptian). I know my family, and know that there are light skinned people born to dark skinned people and vice versa. I couldn't marry a man knowing that if we had one of each, he would prefer one over the other. I'd rather marry a blind man than have my children pick up that kind of attitude. |
