Hey, guys. Today will be my last day posting for a week, maybe two. I've decided to stop smoking completely--I slowed down but I wanna stop altogether--the problem is, I can't be under any stress while I do it; and whenever I get excited over a post, I have to rip my patch off and start smoking. I've ripped three patches so far; so maybe I should stop posting for a little while--at least until I get step one (of the patch) down pat. I'll still post throughout the day (I ripped yesterday's patch, so I have a pack of smokes that won't be gone until sometime tomorrow) but after today I'll be out for a spell. Roxie, Yvette, Reneta, Kola--keep holding it down. Peace. |

Ms. Tonya - I didn't realize that posting to discussion boards was so stressful. Good luck with your smoking cessation program. |

Hi Tonya. Sorry I'm LATE. Patches are NOT good. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and I did everything to quit. Nothing worked. Then one day---I went to the U.S. Department of Health and they gave me their FREE QUIT SMOKING program. It worked like a charm. You do it by attacking the actual Physical Addiction by weaning the brain off schedule: (a) When you first wake in the morn....don't allow yourself a cigarette until you've been up (out of bed) for 1 hour. No cigarette with Coffee, no cigarette PERIOD until you've been up and about for more than 1 hour. After about an hour awake---you're allowed a cigarette. HERE'S THE BIGGIE: (b) Right after all meals---you must wait 90 minutes before you can have a cigarette. (c) After 8 pm at night--only allow yourself 1 (that's UNO) cigarette. You decide when---but there is for 90 minutes after DINNER or any snack. (d) Right before bed at night---Brush the BACK of your tongue before bed with a powerful toothpaste. No cigarette before or after bed. THIS PROGRAM WORKS LIKE A CHARM, because you still get your nicotine but you eliminate your "cravings" first by not having a cigarette at all check-points when your body and brain are most used to being fed the nicotine. This is supposed to take a month, but I quit cold turkey on the 12th day and haven't smoked in 5 years. After the CRAVING "checkpoints" are NOT FED---it's Super Easy to not pick up a cigarette. For instance, after about 6 days of not having a cigarette after eating----I found myself not wanting one at the end of my 90 minute wait. I was able to just stop having them. I tell people all the time about this program, but they don't do it.

Kola: HERE'S THE BIGGIE... Tonya: Sistah! If I could do "the biggie!"... I'd be in REALLY good shape! Kola: I tell people all the time about this program, but they don't do it. Tonya: Whaaaaaaat???? Get the fuck outta here!! LOL. No, seriously, if the patches don't work, I'll give it a try. Thanks a million. I'll miss you ________________________________ Abdi, thanks, girlfriend!! And don't feel dad, we all have typing issues. Oops! ....My bad. I meant to say, "don't feel 'BAD'." (I'm so goddamned corny, lol)

I recently quit myself. My husband buys them, and I ALWAYS had to have 2 cigarettes a day (not much, but still...). I just quit running to the car (where he "hid" them) every night to get them. I only smoked a couple because I refused to buy cigarettes. Try that also. If you have to "bum" a cigarette here and there or get some from a relative, you will smoke much less than if you buy a pack and don't have to limit yourself. You can only bum so many.....but if you have your own stash, you can smoke all day....SO DON'T BUY ANY! |

Reneta, thank-you so much.... If you can do it with a smoker in the house, I know I can do it. My friend doesn't smoke--(which is partly why I have to stop completely)--and none of my girlfriends smoke--that should make it a bit easier since I won't be able to bum or anything else. Hopefully, it'll all work out fine. |

Tonya, My mother used to crew nicorette gum then gradually weaned herself onto regular chewing gum. Ever tried that? |
