this isn't race related but if your using a mac be aware that there are two new viruses found in the osx system. i would suggest using firefox as opposed to safari, that way you can avoid one of them. the other one is called an ommpa- something or other, you have to open it up via email though. it comes as an image file, so be careful. these are the only 2 viruses that can bust up your mac ...lol... i'd still take those 2 over 100,000 that windows have. |

Alright, Mac-man: I have been considering going back to Mac for my next laptop purchase. I have heard that Apple is switching to the Intel chip. Is this true? When will this happen? I'd like to wait until then, but really want to make my purchase by the fall. (And please do not tell me to go ask this question at one of the Mac forums. I always feel like those folks are trying to get me to drink the koolaid...) |

Black folks ain't using no Mac's Not true at all. Most of the Black techies I know use Macs--in fact are rabidly anti-MS. |

That comment was intended as a joke. I'm pretty sure that Dobey got it, as it was meant for him. Obviously Black folks use whatever types of computers they prefer, just like everybody else. I'm contemplating a G4 myself |

Gee, Doberman, you are in rare form today! My computer-like mind has become programmed to laugh at your humor. HAHAHAHAHAHA. BTW, are you coming with any new soft ware? Or hard copy. Ummmmm. Oh yes, now, where was I? You forgot to mention the most important thing about these viruses, babe. They have been put out there by - The White Man to kill off all black Macs so that they can be replaced this spring with the new Golden Delicious Apple model. Hasta La Vista! |

Was there some other type of hardware you - um - have available, Doberman? Damn! I gotta get out this cyber-hottie mode and switch back to the dirty ol lady one. Scuse me while I hit the delete button and press "enter." (Sigh. Wasting my time on the computer is so much more fun than cleaning up my house and doing the laundry. BuhBye. Gotta go read my National Enquirer. Burger King again tonight.) |

yes they are adding the intel chip and some fritos too (jk) i would wait, mac is notorious for having something come out with major bugs and kinks in it when they first try something out. if your going to get one in the fall you should be good to go by then. they still don't have a g5 laptop yet because their experimental ones have been getting too hot and overhaeting circuits. |

Hi Ms. Yvette - What makes me want a G4? A very close web developer friend of mine claims that it's the cream of the crop. I think he said it costs about $3K and that you can do just about anything with it. I currently have an IBM ThinkPad and that little thing is on it's last leg. I can use it to check e-mails when I'm traveling but that's about it. I'm not using that right now, I'm on my Dell desktop. But I've used Mac's before and I like them alright. Years ago if you were doing graphics work, you had to Mac it because PCs just didn't have the power or even the software back then. I guess I want the G4 because of the features and the power. Quite a bit of my business work is done online, plus I travel every now and then, so I can justify spending that kind of money on a laptop. What are you using and what do you recommend? |

Thanks Dob for the heads up! I have a G4 and there is nothing on the planet like it! I have FireFox and Thunderbird on my Laptop(PC) and I love it....It blocks alot of crap......unlike my PC.....which I have to run virus and adware checks on the regular..... On my Mac I have Safari - with the heads up I will d/l Firefox Hell it's free! For anyone considering a Mac - go for it! I have convinced a lot of my friends to purchase Macs and I have had nothing but praises... Because I am b-r-o-k-e....I cannot upgrade to a G5...I will though eventually....(shedding a tear) ....I will be upgrading my Ipod though....life is completely meaningless without it.... (Thank you ladies/gents - my mini Mac info-mercial is now complete) *wink*

Thanks for the feedback, Mzuri. I used to be a hardcore Mac person. Guess it was because I came up in school when that was all we had. Yeah, I cut my computing teeth on one of the classic all-in-one models. (WHat were those called?) Now a guy in my building uses one as a doorstop!!! The horror! But about 10 years ago I got frustrated with trying to go back and forth between work/school and home and so got a pc. I am about fed up--But I have to admit that I will likely always keep at least two different types if I can. |

I know nothing about Macs (I can't even find files on them). I just wanted you to know that watching the topic title reminded me of mac and cheese. As it that's important..... carry on. |

Maybe that's why I am drawn to these products--because they remind me of food: "Apple," "Mac," "iPods" (e.g., "pea pods")... Mmmm... |
