Zane also annouced she would be doing a T.V. show on the subject of books for TV1 (I believe TV1) Press release follows... ------------------- SIMON AND SCHUSTER, INC. ACQUIRES STREBOR BOOKS CATALOG OF TITLES Bestselling Author Zane to Continue as Publisher Simon & Schuster's Atria to Become Home of Fast Growing Publishing Imprint NEW YORK, June 8 - Simon & Schuster, Inc, has acquired the entire backlist and frontlist of Strebor Books, a publishing house founded by New York Times bestselling author Zane, whose titles are currently distributed to the retail trade by Simon & Schuster. Strebor will become an imprint of Atria Books, the Simon & Schuster imprint under which Zane herself is published. Carolyn Reidy, President of the Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group, and Zane, made the announcement. Zane will remain in place as the Publisher of Strebor Books, with the goal of continuing its successful run of publishing popular fiction by African American writers. Strebor will publish between 15 and 25 books per year, with Atria and Simon & Schuster handling all aspects of publication, from design and production to sales, marketing and distribution. In her role with Strebor, Zane will report to Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books. When Zane established Strebor Books in 1999, it was a one-person publishing operation dedicated to fulfilling her vision of giving a voice to more minority writers. Strebor was also the home of the three novels that Zane originally self published, The Sex Chronicles, Addicted, and Shame on it All, which were then acquired for publication by Atria and went on to become bestsellers. In 2003, the company entered into a distribution agreement with Simon & Schuster. Strebor currently has a backlist of over 50 titles from more than 30 authors. "Zane, as an author and as the publisher of Strebor, has dominated a new publishing category for African American readers," said Carolyn Reidy. "We are delighted to bring Strebor in house, and look forward to working with her to grow both the Strebor imprint, and our share of this increasingly vibrant market." Strebor has enjoyed excellent growth since we began distribution through Simon & Schuster in 2003," said Zane. "This agreement will allow me to focus more on what I like to do best - writing, editing, and discovering new talent - while giving all our Strebor authors the full benefit of Atria and Simon & Schuster's talented publishing staff and expert sales and distribution team." Judith Curr added: "Zane's growth as a bestselling author has been a wonderful success story for all of us here at Atria and S&S. With our support Zane will have more freedom to apply her talent to writing her own books and to the growth of her existing list and the development of new authors." Bestselling authors published at Strebor include Darrien Lee (All That and a Bag of Chips, and Been There, Done That), Franklin White (Money for Good, Potentially Yours) and Allison Hobbs (Pandora's Box). Strebor Books, part of Strebor Books International, has dedicated itself to bringing the reader the future in minority publishing today.
