Co-Founders of The African American Pavilion at BookExpo America, Tony Rose, Publisher/CEO, Amber Communications Group, Inc. and Adrienne Ingrum, CEO, Adrienne Ingrum L.L.C., former founding Associate Publisher of Black Issues Book Review have signed a new agreement with BookExpo America/Reed Expositions to manage the 4th Annual African American Pavilion/BEA and produce the African American Pavilion Welcoming Reception and The African Pavilion Pavilion Awards Reception at BookExpo America, John Jacob Javits Convention Center, May 31- June 3, 2007, New York City.

"The response by the exhibitors and the book publishing industry to the 2006 African American Pavilion at BookExpo America was tremendous and powerful", stated Pavilion co-founder Rose. "The pavilion hosted some of the giants in the African American Publishing Industry such as: Haki Madhubuti, Third World Press; Kassahun Checole, Africa World Press/Red Sea Press; Wade and Cheryl Hudson, Just Us Books; Zane, Strebor Books International/Atria Books-Simon and Schuster; Vickie Stringer, Triple Crown Publications; and Ken Smikle, Black Issues Book Review".
BookExpo America, one of the largest book trade exhibits in the world provides independent African American book publishers, self publishers, authors, African American imprints at major publishing houses, distributors, literary agents, publicists, librarians, and bookstore owners with exposure to more than 80,000 book buyers and booksellers from across the world.
"This year", according to Rose, "because the BEA is in New York City, we can expect the largest African American Pavilion/BEA ever. With over 20,000 BEA attendees crossing up and down the Pavilion aisles. There will be huge opportunities to learn, share, educate, buy, sell and network, and the African American Pavilion provides our exhibitors the lowest discounted booth prices at the BookExpo America".

I attended my first Book Expo America (BEA) in 2000. I thoroughly enjoyed the event. I’d been working on AALBC.com for about 2 ½ years at that point. So I found it really gratifying to meet; some of the authors I’d read and written so much about; and some the industry professionals with whom my only contact was via email. Also, the additional contacts made were priceless.
In 2000, a significant Black presence at BEA was a relatively new phenomenon. In 2002, I spoke with some of the industry veterans, and was told that just a few years earlier one could walk the floor of the convention center, where BEA was being held, and not see another Black face.
Today Black people are making a significant contribution and impact in the publishing industry. While many in the majority are lamenting sagging book sales; more African Americans are selling more books than ever before – and our presence at BEA reflects this trend.
