FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARY B. MORRISON, WHOSE SELF PUBLISHING GAMBLE BEGAN HER JOURNEY TO THE NEW YORK TIMES AND ESSENCE BESTSELLER LISTS, SIGNS WITH DAFINA BOOKS FOR NOVELS THROUGH 2011

NEW YORK, 11/16/06—Laurie Parkin, Vice President, Publisher of Kensington Publishing, announced today the acquisition of two new novels by bestselling novelist, poet and screenwriter Mary B. Morrison, whose work has been praised by readers and reviewers for her strong characterizations, edgy plot twists and compelling sensual scenes. As Black Issues Book Review comments in their review of Morrison’s Never Again Once More, she “delivers a deep, passionate story that holds readers from beginning to end.”

“Mary is one of the founding authors of Dafina Books,” says Parkin, “and we couldn’t be happier to continue to work with her and to have her at the top of our publishing program. Every book achieves at a higher and higher level, breaking new ground and taking readers in new directions. Her first appearance on The New York Times bestseller list with this year’s When Somebody Loves You Back was the icing on the cake!”

The deal, finalized by Executive Editor Selena James with Andrew Stuart of The Stuart Agency, calls for two new works of fiction. Rights include hard/soft, world, UK and translation, first and second serial, audio, electronic and book club.

“It’s everything I hoped for and perfect timing—just as we’re expanding our vision for Dafina and plotting the course of the next several years,” says James. “It’s such a pleasure to work with an author I’ve admired from afar, and whose books I’ve always enjoyed—especially when the author is as dynamic as Mary.”

Mary B. Morrison’s own story is one of daring to dream. She self-published her first novel Soul Mates Dissipate and it became an Essence magazine bestseller. That book was the cornerstone of six Soul Mates Dissipate novels, a story arc that extended through her Never Again Once More, He’s Just A Friend, Somebody’s Gotta Be on Top, Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This, and concluded with the August 2006 publication of When Somebody Loves You Back, Morrison’s first New York Times best seller. In October readers received one more look into the Soul Mates Dissipate world when, in the New York Times best seller She Ain’t the One, co-authored with Carl Weber, Morrison took one of her most compelling characters and placed her within an entirely new set of circumstances.
