Here on this list--and other places--there has been an ongoing debate on the worth of street lit--hiphop lit, you go girl books. My literary heroes tend to be the likes of Gwendolyn Brooks, Ralph Ellison, Toni Cade Bambara, James Baldwin, Robert Hayden so you know where I stand--but I say to each his own. I don't read most of the so called trash, but I will not decry anyone else reading it. At least they are reading something. What, all you who decry the new black books, do you have that they should read instead? |
