Hip hop has now become a phenomenon for study--three histories of the music to read--especially good for non hip hoppers

Def Jam, Inc. by Stacy Guereseva

Queens Reigns Supreme by Ethan Brown

Raising Hell by Ronin Ro

These are especially good because they are concerned with the hip hop phenomenon that arose in South East Queens to become Def Jam Records, Murder Inc. and Run DMC.--and how it was tied and is tied to 1980's crack gangsters that arose in Queens.

Much of that is a sad story of lives and talent wasted.
