As the result of weight loss surgery. Cathy died April 16, 2001. She was just 49 years old.
I dedicated my book HUNGRY FOR MORE to Cathy, who after a lifetime of battling her weight took the ultimate risk. It's my first book and I can best describe it as an amazing, bittersweet journey.
I have been blessed to meet literally hundreds of folks who are struggling with their weight who thank me for writing HUNGRY FOR MORE and addressing the issues of black folks and health and body image. I feel like Cathy is in heaven guiding my path.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I've considered the surgery before for myself, but thankfully, doctors don't consider me to be overweight and won't "ok" it for me. I've heard of two other women who have died because of the surgery.
Thank you for writing your book as a warning to others. |

Im sure this is a book folks need to read because this surgery is more than a notion. Look at Star and her issues.
Frankly, Star looked better to me heavy. I am sorry about your loss.

Yes, this is a very resourceful book. I encourage every woman to buy it, if not for themselves for someone else. |
