I attended this event, which I learned about here http://www.thumperscorner.com/discus/messages/2151/8647.html?1141681246 "The Self-Publishing Symposium: Strategies for Success," March 12, 2006 and take full advantage of what this phenomenal event can do for your business. If I had more time I'd get into more details. It was an very good first effort and promises to become a very important event for those interested in self-publishing. The folks in the photo are left to right are <b>Heather "The Literary Dish" Covington, Renee Flagler<b> (author & event organizer), Vickie Stringer (author, publisher), The next two ladies publish Jolie magazine (I do not recall their names), Nancey Flowers (author), and Troy Johnson (AALBC.com). http://www.thumperscorner.com/discus/messages/2151/8647.html?1141681246

I read about it in Heather Covington's newsletter. Sounded interesting. What did Manie Barron have to say. Anything you need to pass on. He is very "selective" in picking up a client. Thanks for sharing. |

Msprissy, Yeah Heather is a bundle of energy. I don't she how she does all she does... Manie continues to do his thing. Yes he is selective; any agent is worth a darn has to be. Manie who has worked in almost every aspect of the book business talked about how the job of publisher is to "Kill" a book. The book that fails to get killed gets published. Essentially it was a tongue and cheek description of the difficulty of getting a book published by a major house. Manie also mentioned how a terffic book he was working with on Althea Gibson got killed because another book with Althea Gibson book was recently published. The book that was published first did not have the depth that his title did. Manie and I also spoke briefly about the new ownership of Black Issues Book Review... (Hummm I should make a post abount this).
